And AbrahamH85 journeyedH5265 from thence toward the southH5045 countryH776, and dwelledH3427 between KadeshH6946 and ShurH7793, and sojournedH1481 in GerarH1642.
And AbrahamH85 saidH559 ofH413 SarahH8283 his wifeH802, She is my sisterH269: and AbimelechH40 kingH4428 of GerarH1642 sentH7971, and tookH3947 SarahH8283.
But GodH430 cameH935 to AbimelechH40 in a dreamH2472 by nightH3915, and saidH559 to him, Behold, thou art but a dead manH4191, for the womanH802 which thou hast takenH3947; for she is a man'sH1167 wifeH1166. {a man's…: Heb. married to an husband}
But AbimelechH40 had not come nearH7126 her: and he saidH559, LordH136, wilt thou slayH2026 also a righteousH6662 nationH1471?
SaidH559 he not unto me, SheH1931 is my sisterH269? and sheH1931, evenH1571 sheH1931 herself saidH559, He is my brotherH251: in the integrityH8537 of my heartH3824 and innocencyH5356 of my handsH3709 have I doneH6213 this. {integrity: or, simplicity, or, sincerity}
And GodH430 saidH559 unto him in a dreamH2472, YeaH1571, I knowH3045 that thou didstH6213 this in the integrityH8537 of thy heartH3824; for I also withheldH2820 thee from sinningH2398 against me: therefore sufferedH5414 I thee not to touchH5060 her.
Now therefore restoreH7725 the manH376 his wifeH802; for he is a prophetH5030, and he shall prayH6419 for theeH1157, and thou shalt liveH2421: and if thou restoreH7725 her not, knowH3045 thou that thou shalt surelyH4191 dieH4191, thou, and all that are thine.
Therefore AbimelechH40 rose earlyH7925 in the morningH1242, and calledH7121 all his servantsH5650, and toldH1696 all these thingsH1697 in their earsH241: and the menH582 were soreH3966 afraidH3372.
Then AbimelechH40 calledH7121 AbrahamH85, and saidH559 unto him, What hast thou doneH6213 unto us? and what have I offendedH2398 thee, that thou hast broughtH935 on me and on my kingdomH4467 a greatH1419 sinH2401? thou hast doneH6213 deedsH4639 unto me that ought not to be doneH6213.
And AbimelechH40 saidH559 unto AbrahamH85, WhatH4100 sawest thouH7200, that thou hast doneH6213 this thingH1697?
And AbrahamH85 saidH559, Because I thoughtH559, SurelyH7535 the fearH3374 of GodH430 is not in this placeH4725; and they will slay meH2026 for my wife'sH802 sakeH1697.
And yet indeedH546 she is my sisterH269; she is the daughterH1323 of my fatherH1, but not the daughterH1323 of my motherH517; and she became my wifeH802.
And it came to pass, when GodH430 caused me to wanderH8582 from my father'sH1 houseH1004, that I saidH559 unto her, This is thy kindnessH2617 which thou shalt shewH6213 unto me; at every placeH4725 whither we shall comeH935, sayH559 of me, He is my brotherH251.
And AbimelechH40 tookH3947 sheepH6629, and oxenH1241, and menservantsH5650, and womenservantsH8198, and gaveH5414 them unto AbrahamH85, and restoredH7725 him SarahH8283 his wifeH802.
And AbimelechH40 saidH559, Behold, my landH776 is before theeH6440: dwellH3427 where it pleasethH2896+H5869 thee. {where…: Heb. as is good in thine eyes}
And unto SarahH8283 he saidH559, Behold, I have givenH5414 thy brotherH251 a thousandH505 pieces of silverH3701: behold, he is to thee a coveringH3682 of the eyesH5869, unto all that are with thee, and with all other: thus she was reprovedH3198.
So AbrahamH85 prayedH6419 unto GodH430: and GodH430 healedH7495 AbimelechH40, and his wifeH802, and his maidservantsH519; and they bareH3205 children.
For the LORDH3068 had fastH6113 closed upH6113 all the wombsH7358 of the houseH1004 of AbimelechH40, becauseH1697 of SarahH8283 Abraham'sH85 wifeH802.
And MizraimH4714 begatH3205 LudimH3866, and AnamimH6047, and LehabimH3853, and NaphtuhimH5320,
And PathrusimH6625, and CasluhimH3695, (out of whom cameH3318 PhilistimH6430,) and CaphtorimH3732.
Now the LORDH3068 had saidH559 unto AbramH87, Get thee outH3212 of thy countryH776, and from thy kindredH4138, and from thy father'sH1 houseH1004, unto a landH776 that I will shewH7200 thee:
And I will make of theeH6213 a greatH1419 nationH1471, and I will blessH1288 thee, and makeH1431 thy nameH8034 greatH1431; and thou shalt be a blessingH1293:
And I will blessH1288 them that blessH1288 thee, and curseH779 him that cursethH7043 thee: and in thee shall all familiesH4940 of the earthH127 be blessedH1288.
So AbramH87 departedH3212, as the LORDH3068 had spokenH1696 unto him; and LotH3876 wentH3212 with him: and AbramH87 was seventyH7657+H8141 and fiveH2568 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he departedH3318 out of HaranH2771.
And AbramH87 tookH3947 SaraiH8297 his wifeH802, and LotH3876 his brother'sH251 sonH1121, and all their substanceH7399 that they had gatheredH7408, and the soulsH5315 that they had gottenH6213 in HaranH2771; and they went forthH3318 to goH3212 into the landH776 of CanaanH3667; and into the landH776 of CanaanH3667 they cameH935.
And AbramH87 passed throughH5674 the landH776 unto the placeH4725 of SichemH7927, unto the plainH436 of MorehH4176. And the CanaaniteH3669 was thenH227 in the landH776.
And the LORDH3068 appearedH7200 unto AbramH87, and saidH559, Unto thy seedH2233 will I giveH5414 thisH2063 landH776: and there buildedH1129 he an altarH4196 unto the LORDH3068, who appearedH7200 unto him.
And he removedH6275 from thence unto a mountainH2022 on the eastH6924 of BethelH1008, and pitchedH5186 his tentH168, having BethelH1008 on the westH3220, and HaiH5857 on the eastH6924: and there he buildedH1129 an altarH4196 unto the LORDH3068, and calledH7121 upon the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068.
And AbramH87 journeyedH5265, going onH1980 stillH5265 toward the southH5045. {going…: Heb. in going and journeying}
And there was a famineH7458 in the landH776: and AbramH87 went downH3381 into EgyptH4714 to sojournH1481 there; for the famineH7458 was grievousH3515 in the landH776.
And it came to pass, whenH834 he was come nearH7126 to enterH935 into EgyptH4714, that he saidH559 unto SaraiH8297 his wifeH802, BeholdH2009 nowH4994, I knowH3045 that thou art a fairH3303 womanH802 to look uponH4758:
Therefore it shall come to pass, when the EgyptiansH4713 shall seeH7200 thee, that they shall sayH559, This is his wifeH802: and they will killH2026 me, but they will save thee aliveH2421.
SayH559, I pray theeH4994, thou art my sisterH269: thatH4616 it may be wellH3190 with me for thy sake; and my soulH5315 shall liveH2421 because of theeH1558.
And it came to pass, that, when AbramH87 was comeH935 into EgyptH4714, the EgyptiansH4713 beheldH7200 the womanH802 that she was veryH3966 fairH3303.
The princesH8269 also of PharaohH6547 sawH7200 her, and commendedH1984 her beforeH413 PharaohH6547: and the womanH802 was takenH3947 into Pharaoh'sH6547 houseH1004.
And he entreatedH3190 AbramH87 wellH3190 for her sake: and he had sheepH6629, and oxenH1241, and he assesH2543, and menservantsH5650, and maidservantsH8198, and she assesH860, and camelsH1581.
And the LORDH3068 plaguedH5060 PharaohH6547 and his houseH1004 with greatH1419 plaguesH5061 because ofH1697 SaraiH8297 Abram'sH87 wifeH802.
And PharaohH6547 calledH7121 AbramH87, and saidH559, What is this that thou hast doneH6213 unto me? why didst thou not tellH5046 me that she was thy wifeH802?
Why saidst thouH559, She is my sisterH269? so I might have takenH3947 her to me to wifeH802: now therefore behold thy wifeH802, takeH3947 her, and go thy wayH3212.
And PharaohH6547 commandedH6680 his menH582 concerning him: and they sent him awayH7971, and his wifeH802, and all that he had.
Now it came to pass in the daysH3117 when the judgesH8199 ruledH8199, that there was a famineH7458 in the landH776. And a certain manH376 of BethlehemjudahH1035+H3063 wentH3212 to sojournH1481 in the countryH7704 of MoabH4124, he, and his wifeH802, and his twoH8147 sonsH1121. {ruled: Heb. judged}
WhereforeG1223+G5124 take unto youG353 the whole armourG3833 of GodG2316, thatG2443 ye may be ableG1410 to withstandG436 inG1722 the evilG4190 dayG2250, andG2532 having doneG2716 allG537, to standG2476. {having…: or, having overcome all}
StandG2476 thereforeG3767, havingG4024 yourG5216 loinsG3751 girt aboutG4024 withG1722 truthG225, andG2532 having onG1746 the breastplateG2382 of righteousnessG1343;
And IsaacH3327 cameH935 from the wayH935 of the well LahairoiH883; for he dweltH3427 in the southH5045 countryH776.
Stand fastG4739 thereforeG3767 in the libertyG1657 wherewithG3739 ChristG5547 hath madeG1659 usG2248 freeG1659, andG2532 beG1758 notG3361 entangledG1758 againG3825 with the yokeG2218 of bondageG1397.
ForG1063, brethrenG80, yeG5210 have been calledG2564 untoG1909 libertyG1657; onlyG3440 use notG3361 libertyG1657 forG1519 an occasionG874 to the fleshG4561, butG235 byG1223 loveG26 serveG1398 one anotherG240.
And DinahH1783 the daughterH1323 of LeahH3812, which she bareH3205 unto JacobH3290, went outH3318 to seeH7200 the daughtersH1323 of the landH776.
And, behold, there cameH935 a manH376 of GodH430 out of JudahH3063 by the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 unto BethelH1008: and JeroboamH3379 stoodH5975 by the altarH4196 to burn incenseH6999. {burn: or, offer}
And he criedH7121 against the altarH4196 in the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, and saidH559, O altarH4196, altarH4196, thus saithH559 the LORDH3068; Behold, a childH1121 shall be bornH3205 unto the houseH1004 of DavidH1732, JosiahH2977 by nameH8034; and upon thee shall he offerH2076 the priestsH3548 of the high placesH1116 that burn incenseH6999 upon thee, and men'sH120 bonesH6106 shall be burntH8313 upon thee.
And he gaveH5414 a signH4159 the same dayH3117, sayingH559, This is the signH4159 which the LORDH3068 hath spokenH1696; Behold, the altarH4196 shall be rentH7167, and the ashesH1880 that are upon it shall be poured outH8210.
And it came to pass, when kingH4428 JeroboamH3379 heardH8085 the sayingH1697 of the manH376 of GodH430, which had criedH7121 against the altarH4196 in BethelH1008, that he put forthH7971 his handH3027 from the altarH4196, sayingH559, Lay holdH8610 on him. And his handH3027, which he put forthH7971 against him, dried upH3001, so that he couldH3201 not pull it in againH7725 to him.
The altarH4196 also was rentH7167, and the ashesH1880 poured outH8210 from the altarH4196, according to the signH4159 which the manH376 of GodH430 had givenH5414 by the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068.
And the kingH4428 answeredH6030 and saidH559 unto the manH376 of GodH430, IntreatH2470 now the faceH6440 of the LORDH3068 thy GodH430, and prayH6419 for me, that my handH3027 may be restored me againH7725. And the manH376 of GodH430 besoughtH2470+H6440 the LORDH3068, and the king'sH4428 handH3027 was restored him againH7725, and became as it was beforeH7223. {the LORD, and: Heb. the face of the LORD, etc}
And the kingH4428 saidH1696 unto the manH376 of GodH430, ComeH935 homeH1004 with me, and refreshH5582 thyself, and I will giveH5414 thee a rewardH4991.
And the manH376 of GodH430 saidH559 unto the kingH4428, If thou wilt giveH5414 me halfH2677 thine houseH1004, I will not go inH935 with thee, neither will I eatH398 breadH3899 nor drinkH8354 waterH4325 in this placeH4725:
For so was it chargedH6680 me by the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, sayingH559, EatH398 no breadH3899, nor drinkH8354 waterH4325, nor turn againH7725 by the same wayH1870 that thou camestH1980.
So he wentH3212 anotherH312 wayH1870, and returnedH7725 not by the wayH1870 that he cameH935 to BethelH1008.
Now there dweltH3427 anH259 oldH2205 prophetH5030 in BethelH1008; and his sonsH1121 cameH935 and toldH5608 him all the worksH4639 that the manH376 of GodH430 had doneH6213 that dayH3117 in BethelH1008: the wordsH1697 which he had spokenH1696 unto the kingH4428, them they toldH5608 also to their fatherH1.
And their fatherH1 saidH1696 unto them, What wayH1870 wentH1980 he? For his sonsH1121 had seenH7200 whatH335 wayH1870 the manH376 of GodH430 wentH1980, which cameH935 from JudahH3063.
And he saidH559 unto his sonsH1121, SaddleH2280 me the assH2543. So they saddledH2280 him the assH2543: and he rodeH7392 thereon,
And wentH3212 afterH310 the manH376 of GodH430, and foundH4672 him sittingH3427 under an oakH424: and he saidH559 unto him, Art thou the manH376 of GodH430 that camestH935 from JudahH3063? And he saidH559, I am.
Then he saidH559 unto him, ComeH3212 homeH1004 with me, and eatH398 breadH3899.
And he saidH559, I mayH3201 not returnH7725 with thee, nor go inH935 with thee: neither will I eatH398 breadH3899 nor drinkH8354 waterH4325 with thee in this placeH4725:
For it was saidH1697 to me by the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, Thou shalt eatH398 no breadH3899 nor drinkH8354 waterH4325 there, nor turn againH7725 to goH3212 by the wayH1870 that thou camestH1980. {it…: Heb. a word was}
He saidH559 unto him, I am a prophetH5030 also as thou art; and an angelH4397 spakeH1696 unto me by the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, sayingH559, Bring him backH7725 with thee into thine houseH1004, that he may eatH398 breadH3899 and drinkH8354 waterH4325. But he liedH3584 unto him.
So he went backH7725 with him, and did eatH398 breadH3899 in his houseH1004, and drankH8354 waterH4325.
And it came to pass, as they satH3427 at the tableH7979, that the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 came unto the prophetH5030 that brought him backH7725:
And he criedH7121 unto the manH376 of GodH430 that cameH935 from JudahH3063, sayingH559, Thus saithH559 the LORDH3068, Forasmuch asH3282 thou hast disobeyedH4784 the mouthH6310 of the LORDH3068, and hast not keptH8104 the commandmentH4687 which the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 commandedH6680 thee,
But camest backH7725, and hast eatenH398 breadH3899 and drunkH8354 waterH4325 in the placeH4725, of the which the LORD did sayH1696 to thee, EatH398 no breadH3899, and drinkH8354 no waterH4325; thy carcaseH5038 shall not comeH935 unto the sepulchreH6913 of thy fathersH1.
And it came to pass, afterH310 he had eatenH398 breadH3899, and afterH310 he had drunkH8354, that he saddledH2280 for him the assH2543, to wit, for the prophetH5030 whom he had brought backH7725.
And when he was goneH3212, a lionH738 metH4672 him by the wayH1870, and slewH4191 him: and his carcaseH5038 was castH7993 in the wayH1870, and the assH2543 stoodH5975 byH681 it, the lionH738 also stoodH5975 by the carcaseH5038.
And, behold, menH582 passed byH5674, and sawH7200 the carcaseH5038 castH7993 in the wayH1870, and the lionH738 standingH5975 byH681 the carcaseH5038: and they cameH935 and toldH1696 it in the cityH5892 where the oldH2205 prophetH5030 dweltH3427.
And when the prophetH5030 that brought him backH7725 from the wayH1870 heardH8085 thereof, he saidH559, It is the manH376 of GodH430, who was disobedientH4784 unto the wordH6310 of the LORDH3068: therefore the LORDH3068 hath deliveredH5414 him unto the lionH738, which hath tornH7665 him, and slainH4191 him, according to the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068, which he spakeH1696 unto him. {torn: Heb. broken}
And he spakeH1696 to his sonsH1121, sayingH559, SaddleH2280 me the assH2543. And they saddledH2280 him.
And he wentH3212 and foundH4672 his carcaseH5038 castH7993 in the wayH1870, and the assH2543 and the lionH738 standingH5975 byH681 the carcaseH5038: the lionH738 had not eatenH398 the carcaseH5038, nor tornH7665 the assH2543. {torn: Heb. broken}
And the prophetH5030 took upH5375 the carcaseH5038 of the manH376 of GodH430, and laidH3240 it upon the assH2543, and brought it backH7725: and the oldH2205 prophetH5030 cameH935 to the cityH5892, to mournH5594 and to buryH6912 him.
And he laidH3240 his carcaseH5038 in his own graveH6913; and they mournedH5594 over him, saying, AlasH1945, my brotherH251!
And it came to pass, afterH310 he had buriedH6912 him, that he spakeH559 to his sonsH1121, sayingH559, When I am deadH4191, then buryH6912 me in the sepulchreH6913 wherein the manH376 of GodH430 is buriedH6912; layH3240 my bonesH6106 besideH681 his bonesH6106:
For the sayingH1697 which he criedH7121 by the wordH1697 of the LORDH3068 against the altarH4196 in BethelH1008, and against all the housesH1004 of the high placesH1116 which are in the citiesH5892 of SamariaH8111, shall surely come to pass.
AfterH310 this thingH1697 JeroboamH3379 returnedH7725 not from his evilH7451 wayH1870, but madeH6213 againH7725 of the lowestH7098 of the peopleH5971 priestsH3548 of the high placesH1116: whosoever wouldH2655, he consecratedH4390+H3027 him, and he became one of the priestsH3548 of the high placesH1116. {made…: Heb. returned and made} {consecrated…: Heb. filled his hand}
And this thingH1697 became sinH2403 unto the houseH1004 of JeroboamH3379, even to cut it offH3582, and to destroyH8045 it from off the faceH6440 of the earthH127.
So AbrahamH85 prayedH6419 unto GodH430: and GodH430 healedH7495 AbimelechH40, and his wifeH802, and his maidservantsH519; and they bareH3205 children.
AndG2532 blessedG3107 isG2076 he, whosoeverG3739 shallG4624 notG3362 be offendedG4624 inG1722 meG1698.
He hath not beheldH5027 iniquityH205 in JacobH3290, neither hath he seenH7200 perversenessH5999 in IsraelH3478: the LORDH3068 his GodH430 is with him, and the shoutH8643 of a kingH4428 is among them.
And he shewedH7200 me JoshuaH3091 the highH1419 priestH3548 standingH5975 beforeH6440 the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068, and SatanH7854 standingH5975 at his right handH3225 to resistH7853 him. {Satan: that is, an adversary} {to…: Heb. to be his adversary}
And the LORDH3068 saidH559 unto SatanH7854, The LORDH3068 rebukeH1605 thee, O SatanH7854; even the LORDH3068 that hath chosenH977 JerusalemH3389 rebukeH1605 thee: is not this a brandH181 pluckedH5337 out of the fireH784?
Now JoshuaH3091 was clothedH3847 with filthyH6674 garmentsH899, and stoodH5975 beforeH6440 the angelH4397.
And he answeredH6030 and spakeH559 unto those that stoodH5975 beforeH6440 him, sayingH559, Take awayH5493 the filthyH6674 garmentsH899 from him. And unto him he saidH559, BeholdH7200, I have caused thine iniquityH5771 to passH5674 from thee, and I will clotheH3847 thee with change of raimentH4254.
And I saidH559, Let them setH7760 a fairH2889 mitreH6797 upon his headH7218. So they setH7760 a fairH2889 mitreH6797 upon his headH7218, and clothedH3847 him with garmentsH899. And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 stood byH5975.
And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 protestedH5749 unto JoshuaH3091, sayingH559,
Thus saithH559 the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635; If thou wilt walkH3212 in my waysH1870, and if thou wilt keepH8104 my chargeH4931, then thou shalt also judgeH1777 my houseH1004, and shalt also keepH8104 my courtsH2691, and I will giveH5414 thee places to walkH4108 among these that stand byH5975. {charge: or, ordinance} {places…: Heb. walks}
HearH8085 now, O JoshuaH3091 the highH1419 priestH3548, thou, and thy fellowsH7453 that sitH3427 beforeH6440 thee: for they are menH582 wondered atH4159: for, behold, I will bring forthH935 my servantH5650 the BRANCHH6780. {wondered…: Heb. of wonder, or, sign}
For behold the stoneH68 that I have laidH5414 beforeH6440 JoshuaH3091; upon oneH259 stoneH68 shall be sevenH7651 eyesH5869: behold, I will engraveH6605 the gravingH6603 thereof, saithH5002 the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, and I will removeH4185 the iniquityH5771 of that landH776 in oneH259 dayH3117.
In that dayH3117, saithH5002 the LORDH3068 of hostsH6635, shall ye callH7121 every manH376 his neighbourH7453 under the vineH1612 and under the fig treeH8384.
NowG1161 faithG4102 isG2076 the substanceG5287 of things hoped forG1679, the evidenceG1650 of thingsG4229 notG3756 seenG991. {substance: or, ground, or, confidence}
ForG1063 byG1722 itG5026 the eldersG4245 obtained a good reportG3140.
Through faithG4102 we understandG3539 that the worldsG165 were framedG2675 by the wordG4487 of GodG2316, soG1519 that things whichG3588 are seenG991 wereG1096 notG3361 madeG1096 ofG1537 things which do appearG5316.
By faithG4102 AbelG6 offeredG4374 unto GodG2316 a more excellentG4119 sacrificeG2378 thanG3844 CainG2535, byG1223 whichG3739 he obtained witnessG3140 that he wasG1511 righteousG1342, GodG2316 testifyingG3140 ofG1909 hisG846 giftsG1435: andG2532 byG1223 itG846 he being deadG599 yetG2089 speakethG2980. {yet…: or, is yet spoken of}
By faithG4102 EnochG1802 was translatedG3346 that he shouldG1492 notG3361 seeG1492 deathG2288; andG2532 wasG2147 notG3756 foundG2147, becauseG1360 GodG2316 had translatedG3346 himG846: forG1063 beforeG4253 hisG846 translationG3331 he had this testimonyG3140, that he pleasedG2100 GodG2316.
ButG1161 withoutG5565 faithG4102 it is impossibleG102 to pleaseG2100 him: forG1063 he that comethG4334 to GodG2316 mustG1163 believeG4100 thatG3754 he isG2076, andG2532 that he isG1096 a rewarderG3406 of them that diligently seekG1567 himG846.
By faithG4102 NoahG3575, being warned of GodG5537 ofG4012 things notG3369 seenG991 as yetG3369, moved with fearG2125, preparedG2680 an arkG2787 toG1519 the savingG4991 of hisG846 houseG3624; byG1223 the whichG3739 he condemnedG2632 the worldG2889, andG2532 becameG1096 heirG2818 of the righteousnessG1343 which is byG2596 faithG4102. {moved…: or, being wary}
By faithG4102 AbrahamG11, when he was calledG2564 to go outG1831 intoG1519 a placeG5117 whichG3739 he should afterG3195 receiveG2983 forG1519 an inheritanceG2817, obeyedG5219; andG2532 he went outG1831, notG3361 knowingG1987 whitherG4226 he wentG2064.
By faithG4102 he sojournedG3939 inG1519 the landG1093 of promiseG1860, asG5613 in a strange countryG245, dwellingG2730 inG1722 tabernaclesG4633 withG3326 IsaacG2464 andG2532 JacobG2384, the heirs with himG4789 of the sameG846 promiseG1860:
ForG1063 he looked forG1551 a cityG4172 which hathG2192 foundationsG2310, whoseG3739 builderG5079 andG2532 makerG1217 is GodG2316.
Through faithG4102 alsoG2532 SaraG4564 herselfG846 receivedG2983 strengthG1411 toG1519 conceiveG2602 seedG4690, andG2532 was delivered of a childG5088 when she was pastG3844 ageG2540+G2244, becauseG1893 she judgedG2233 him faithfulG4103 who had promisedG1861.
ThereforeG1352 sprang thereG1080 evenG2532 ofG575 oneG1520, andG2532 himG5023 as good as deadG3499, so many asG2531 the starsG798 of the skyG3772 in multitudeG4128, andG2532 asG5616 the sandG285 whichG3588 is byG3844 the seaG2281 shoreG5491 innumerableG382.
TheseG3778 allG3956 diedG599 inG2596 faithG4102, notG3361 having receivedG2983 the promisesG1860, butG235 having seenG1492 themG846 afar offG4207, andG2532 were persuaded ofG3982 them, andG2532 embracedG782 them, andG2532 confessedG3670 thatG3754 they wereG1526 strangersG3581 andG2532 pilgrimsG3927 onG1909 the earthG1093. {in faith: Gr. according to faith}
ForG1063 they that sayG3004 such thingsG5108 declare plainlyG1718 thatG3754 they seekG1934 a countryG3968.
AndG2532 trulyG3303, ifG1487 they had been mindfulG3421 of thatG1565 country fromG575 whenceG3739 they came outG1831, they mightG302 have hadG2192 opportunityG2540 to have returnedG344.
ButG1161 nowG3570 they desireG3713 a betterG2909 country, that isG5123, an heavenlyG2032: whereforeG1352 GodG2316 isG1870 notG3756 ashamedG1870+G846 to be calledG1941 theirG846 GodG2316: forG1063 he hath preparedG2090 for themG846 a cityG4172.
By faithG4102 AbrahamG11, when he was triedG3985, offered upG4374 IsaacG2464: andG2532 he that had receivedG324 the promisesG1860 offered upG4374 his only begottenG3439 son,
OfG4314 whomG3739 it was saidG2980, ThatG3754 inG1722 IsaacG2464 shallG2564 thyG4671 seedG4690 be calledG2564: {of: or, to}
AccountingG3049 thatG3754 GodG2316 was ableG1415 to raise him upG1453, evenG2532 fromG1537 the deadG3498; from whenceG3606 alsoG2532 he receivedG2865 himG846 inG1722 a figureG3850.
By faithG4102 IsaacG2464 blessedG2127 JacobG2384 andG2532 EsauG2269 concerningG4012 things to comeG3195.
By faithG4102 JacobG2384, when he was a dyingG599, blessedG2127 bothG1538 the sonsG5207 of JosephG2501; andG2532 worshippedG4352, leaning uponG1909 the topG206 of hisG846 staffG4464.
By faithG4102 JosephG2501, when he diedG5053, made mentionG3421 ofG4012 the departingG1841 of the childrenG5207 of IsraelG2474; andG2532 gave commandmentG1781 concerningG4012 hisG846 bonesG3747. {made…: or, remembered}
By faithG4102 MosesG3475, when he was bornG1080, was hidG2928 three monthsG5150 ofG5259 hisG846 parentsG3962, becauseG1360 they sawG1492 he was a properG791 childG3813; andG2532 they wereG5399 notG3756 afraidG5399 of the king'sG935 commandmentG1297.
By faithG4102 MosesG3475, when he was comeG1096 to yearsG3173, refusedG720 to be calledG3004 the sonG5207 of Pharaoh'sG5328 daughterG2364;
ChoosingG138 ratherG3123 to suffer afflictionG4778 with the peopleG2992 of GodG2316, thanG2228 to enjoy the pleasuresG2192+G619 of sinG266 for a seasonG4340;
EsteemingG2233 the reproachG3680 of ChristG5547 greaterG3187 richesG4149 thanG2233 the treasuresG2344 inG1722 EgyptG125: forG1063 he had respectG578 untoG1519 the recompence of the rewardG3405. {of Christ: or, for Christ}
By faithG4102 he forsookG2641 EgyptG125, notG3361 fearingG5399 the wrathG2372 of the kingG935: forG1063 he enduredG2594, asG5613 seeingG3708 him who is invisibleG517.
Through faithG4102 he keptG4160 the passoverG3957, andG2532 the sprinklingG4378 of bloodG129, lestG3363 he that destroyedG3645 the firstbornG4416 should touchG2345 themG846.
By faithG4102 they passed throughG1224 the RedG2063 seaG2281 asG5613 byG1223 dryG3584 land: whichG3739 the EgyptiansG124 assayingG3984 to doG2983 were drownedG2666.
By faithG4102 the wallsG5038 of JerichoG2410 fell downG4098, after they were compassedG2944 aboutG1909 sevenG2033 daysG2250.
By faithG4102 the harlotG4204 RahabG4460 perishedG4881 notG3756 with them that believed notG544, when she had receivedG1209 the spiesG2685 withG3326 peaceG1515. {that…: or, that were disobedient}
AndG2532 whatG5101 shall IG3004 moreG2089 sayG3004? forG1063 the timeG5550 would failG1952 meG3165 to tellG1334 ofG4012 GedeonG1066, andG5037 of BarakG913, andG2532 of SamsonG4546, andG2532 of JephthaeG2422; of DavidG1138 alsoG2532, andG5037 SamuelG4545, andG2532 of the prophetsG4396:
WhoG3739 throughG1223 faithG4102 subduedG2610 kingdomsG932, wroughtG2038 righteousnessG1343, obtainedG2013 promisesG1860, stoppedG5420 the mouthsG4750 of lionsG3023,
QuenchedG4570 the violenceG1411 of fireG4442, escapedG5343 the edgeG4750 of the swordG3162, out ofG575 weaknessG769 were made strongG1743, waxedG1096 valiantG2478 inG1722 fightG4171, turned to flightG2827 the armiesG3925 of the aliensG245.
WomenG1135 receivedG2983 theirG846 deadG3498 raised to life againG1537+G386: andG1161 othersG243 were torturedG5178, notG3756 acceptingG4327 deliveranceG629; thatG2443 they might obtainG5177 a betterG2909 resurrectionG386:
AndG1161 othersG2087 hadG2983 trialG3984 of cruel mockingsG1701 andG2532 scourgingsG3148, yeaG1161, moreoverG2089 of bondsG1199 andG2532 imprisonmentG5438:
They were stonedG3034, they were sawn asunderG4249, were temptedG3985, were slainG599 withG1722 the swordG5408+G3162: they wandered aboutG4022 inG1722 sheepskinsG3374 andG1722 goatskinsG122+G1192; being destituteG5302, afflictedG2346, tormentedG2558;
(Of whomG3739 the worldG2889 wasG2258 notG3756 worthyG514:) they wanderedG4105 inG1722 desertsG2047, andG2532 in mountainsG3735, andG2532 in densG4693 andG2532 cavesG3692 of the earthG1093.
AndG2532 theseG3778 allG3956, having obtained a good reportG3140 throughG1223 faithG4102, receivedG2865 notG3756 the promiseG1860:
GodG2316 having providedG4265 someG5100 betterG2909 thingG5100 forG4012 usG2257, thatG3363 theyG5048 withoutG5565 usG2257 shouldG5048 notG3363 be made perfectG5048. {provided: or, foreseen}
LordG2962, they have killedG615 thyG4675 prophetsG4396, andG2532 digged downG2679 thineG4675 altarsG2379; and IG2504 am leftG5275 aloneG3441, andG2532 they seekG2212 myG3450 lifeG5590.
And AbimelechH40 tookH3947 sheepH6629, and oxenH1241, and menservantsH5650, and womenservantsH8198, and gaveH5414 them unto AbrahamH85, and restoredH7725 him SarahH8283 his wifeH802.
But NaamanH5283 was wrothH7107, and went awayH3212, and saidH559, Behold, I thoughtH559, He will surelyH3318 come outH3318 to me, and standH5975, and callH7121 on the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068 his GodH430, and strikeH5130 his handH3027 over the placeH4725, and recoverH622 the leperH6879. {I thought: Heb. I said. or, I said with my self, He will surely come out, etc.} {strike: Heb. move up and down}
And JeroboamH3379 saidH559 in his heartH3820, Now shall the kingdomH4467 returnH7725 to the houseH1004 of DavidH1732:
Whereupon the kingH4428 took counselH3289, and madeH6213 twoH8147 calvesH5695 of goldH2091, and saidH559 unto them, It is too muchH7227 for you to go upH5927 to JerusalemH3389: behold thy godsH430, O IsraelH3478, which brought thee upH5927 out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714.
ButG1161 PeterG4074 andG2532 they that were withG4862 himG846 wereG2258 heavyG916 with sleepG5258: andG1161 when they were awakeG1235, they sawG1492 hisG846 gloryG1391, andG2532 the twoG1417 menG435 that stood withG4921 himG846.
AndG2532 heG846 wasG2258 inG1909 the hinder part of the shipG4403, asleepG2518 onG1909 a pillowG4344: andG2532 they awakeG1326 himG846, andG2532 sayG3004 unto himG846, MasterG1320, carestG3199 thouG4671 notG3756 thatG3754 we perishG622?
And AbimelechH40 calledH7121 IsaacH3327, and saidH559, Behold, of a suretyH389 she is thy wifeH802: and how saidstH559 thou, She is my sisterH269? And IsaacH3327 saidH559 unto him, Because I saidH559, Lest I dieH4191 for her.
For she had saidH559 unto the servantH5650, WhatH4310 manH376 is thisH1976 that walkethH1980 in the fieldH7704 to meet usH7125? And the servantH5650 had saidH559, It is my masterH113: therefore she tookH3947 a vailH6809, and covered herselfH3680.
But GodH430 cameH935 to AbimelechH40 in a dreamH2472 by nightH3915, and saidH559 to him, Behold, thou art but a dead manH4191, for the womanH802 which thou hast takenH3947; for she is a man'sH1167 wifeH1166. {a man's…: Heb. married to an husband}
But AbimelechH40 had not come nearH7126 her: and he saidH559, LordH136, wilt thou slayH2026 also a righteousH6662 nationH1471?
SaidH559 he not unto me, SheH1931 is my sisterH269? and sheH1931, evenH1571 sheH1931 herself saidH559, He is my brotherH251: in the integrityH8537 of my heartH3824 and innocencyH5356 of my handsH3709 have I doneH6213 this. {integrity: or, simplicity, or, sincerity}
And AbimelechH40 saidH559, Behold, my landH776 is before theeH6440: dwellH3427 where it pleasethH2896+H5869 thee. {where…: Heb. as is good in thine eyes}
And the remnantH5629 that remainethH5736 of the curtainsH3407 of the tentH168, the halfH2677 curtainH3407 that remainethH5736, shall hangH5628 over the backsideH268 of the tabernacleH4908.
And JoabH3097 answeredH559, The LORDH3068 make his peopleH5971 an hundredH3967 timesH6471 so many moreH3254 as theyH1992 be: but, my lordH113 the kingH4428, are they not all my lord'sH113 servantsH5650? why then doth my lordH113 requireH1245 this thing? why will he be a cause of trespassH819 to IsraelH3478?
And it came to pass in the daysH3117 of AmraphelH569 kingH4428 of ShinarH8152, AriochH746 kingH4428 of EllasarH495, ChedorlaomerH3540 kingH4428 of ElamH5867, and TidalH8413 kingH4428 of nationsH1471;
That these madeH6213 warH4421 withH854 BeraH1298 kingH4428 of SodomH5467, and with BirshaH1306 kingH4428 of GomorrahH6017, ShinabH8134 kingH4428 of AdmahH126, and ShemeberH8038 kingH4428 of ZeboiimH6636, and the kingH4428 of BelaH1106, which isH1931 ZoarH6820.
All these were joined togetherH2266 in the valeH6010 of SiddimH7708, whichH1931 is the saltH4417 seaH3220.
TwelveH6240+H8147 yearsH8141 they servedH5647+H853 ChedorlaomerH3540, and in the thirteenthH7969+H6240 yearH8141 they rebelledH4775.
And in the fourteenthH6240+H702 yearH8141 cameH935 ChedorlaomerH3540, and the kingsH4428 that were with him, and smoteH5221 the RephaimsH7497 in Ashteroth KarnaimH6255, and the ZuzimsH2104 in HamH1990, and the EmimsH368 in Shaveh KiriathaimH7741, {Shaveh…: or, The plain of Kiriathaim}
And the HoritesH2752 in their mountH2042 SeirH8165, unto ElparanH364, which is byH5921 the wildernessH4057. {Elparan: or, The plain of Paran}
And they returnedH7725, and cameH935 toH413 EnmishpatH5880, which is KadeshH6946, and smoteH5221 all the countryH7704 of the AmalekitesH6003, and also the AmoritesH567, that dweltH3427 in HazezontamarH2688.
And there went outH3318 the kingH4428 of SodomH5467, and the kingH4428 of GomorrahH6017, and the kingH4428 of AdmahH126, and the kingH4428 of ZeboiimH6636, and the kingH4428 of BelaH1106 (the sameH1931 is ZoarH6820;) and they joinedH6186 battleH4421 with them in the valeH6010 of SiddimH7708;
With ChedorlaomerH3540 the kingH4428 of ElamH5867, and with TidalH8413 kingH4428 of nationsH1471, and AmraphelH569 kingH4428 of ShinarH8152, and AriochH746 kingH4428 of EllasarH495; fourH702 kingsH4428 with fiveH2568.
And the valeH6010 of SiddimH7708 was full ofH875 slimepitsH875+H2564; and the kingsH4428 of SodomH5467 and GomorrahH6017 fledH5127, and fellH5307 there; and they that remainedH7604 fledH5127 to the mountainH2022.
And they tookH3947 all the goodsH7399 of SodomH5467 and GomorrahH6017, and all their victualsH400, and went their wayH3212.
And they tookH3947 LotH3876, Abram'sH87 brother'sH251 sonH1121, who dweltH3427 in SodomH5467, and his goodsH7399, and departedH3212.
And there cameH935 one that had escapedH6412, and toldH5046 AbramH87 the HebrewH5680; for he dweltH7931 in the plainH436 of MamreH4471 the AmoriteH567, brotherH251 of EshcolH812, and brotherH251 of AnerH6063: and these were confederateH1167+H1285 with AbramH87.
And when AbramH87 heardH8085 that his brotherH251 was taken captiveH7617, he armedH7324 his trainedH2593 servants, bornH3211 in his own houseH1004, threeH7969 hundredH3967 and eighteenH6240+H8083, and pursuedH7291 them unto DanH1835. {armed: or, led forth} {trained: or, instructed}
And he dividedH2505 himself against them, he and his servantsH5650, by nightH3915, and smoteH5221 them, and pursuedH7291 them unto HobahH2327, which is on the left handH8040 of DamascusH1834.
And he brought backH7725 all the goodsH7399, and also brought againH7725 his brotherH251 LotH3876, and his goodsH7399, and the womenH802 also, and the peopleH5971.
And the kingH4428 of SodomH5467 went outH3318 to meetH7125 him afterH310 his returnH7725 from the slaughterH5221 of ChedorlaomerH3540, and of the kingsH4428 that were with him, at the valleyH6010 of ShavehH7740, whichH1931 is the king'sH4428 daleH6010.
And MelchizedekH4442 kingH4428 of SalemH8004 brought forthH3318 breadH3899 and wineH3196: and he was the priestH3548 of the most highH5945 GodH410.
And he blessedH1288 him, and saidH559, BlessedH1288 be AbramH87 of the most highH5945 GodH410, possessorH7069 of heavenH8064 and earthH776:
And blessedH1288 be the most highH5945 GodH410, which hath deliveredH4042 thine enemiesH6862 into thy handH3027. And he gaveH5414 him tithesH4643 of all.
And the kingH4428 of SodomH5467 saidH559 unto AbramH87, GiveH5414 me the personsH5315, and takeH3947 the goodsH7399 to thyself. {persons: Heb. souls}
And AbramH87 saidH559 to the kingH4428 of SodomH5467, I have lift upH7311 mine handH3027 unto the LORDH3068, the most highH5945 GodH410, the possessorH7069 of heavenH8064 and earthH776,
That I will notH518 take from a threadH2339 even to a shoelatchetH5275+H8288, and that I will notH518 takeH3947 any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest sayH559, I have madeH6238 AbramH87 richH6238:
SaveH1107 only that whichH834 the young menH5288 have eatenH398, and the portionH2506 of the menH582 which wentH1980 withH854 me, AnerH6063, EshcolH812, and MamreH4471; let themH1992 takeH3947 their portionH2506.
AndG2532 saidG2036 untoG4314 himG846, Get theeG1831 out ofG1537 thyG4675 countryG1093, andG2532 fromG1537 thyG4675 kindredG4772, andG2532 comeG1204 intoG1519 the landG1093 whichG3739+G302 I shall shewG1166 theeG4671.
ThenG5119 came heG1831 out ofG1537 the landG1093 of the ChaldaeansG5466, and dweltG2730 inG1722 CharranG5488: and from thenceG2547, whenG3326 hisG846 fatherG3962 was deadG599, he removedG3351 himG846 intoG1519 thisG5026 landG1093, whereinG1519+G3739 yeG5210 nowG3568 dwellG2730.
But GodH430 cameH935 to AbimelechH40 in a dreamH2472 by nightH3915, and saidH559 to him, Behold, thou art but a dead manH4191, for the womanH802 which thou hast takenH3947; for she is a man'sH1167 wifeH1166. {a man's…: Heb. married to an husband}
But AbimelechH40 had not come nearH7126 her: and he saidH559, LordH136, wilt thou slayH2026 also a righteousH6662 nationH1471?
SaidH559 he not unto me, SheH1931 is my sisterH269? and sheH1931, evenH1571 sheH1931 herself saidH559, He is my brotherH251: in the integrityH8537 of my heartH3824 and innocencyH5356 of my handsH3709 have I doneH6213 this. {integrity: or, simplicity, or, sincerity}
And AbimelechH40 saidH559, Behold, my landH776 is before theeH6440: dwellH3427 where it pleasethH2896+H5869 thee. {where…: Heb. as is good in thine eyes}
