not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; {Or, forasmuch as they brake my covenant}which my covenant they brake, although I was {Or, lord over them}a husband unto them, saith Jehovah.

And they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know Jehovah; for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith Jehovah: for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin will I remember no more.
For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.The heavens declare the glory of God;And the firmament showeth his handiwork.
Day unto day uttereth speech,And night unto night showeth knowledge.
There is no speech nor language;Their voice is not heard.
Their line is gone out through all the earth,And their words to the end of the world.In them hath he set a {Hebrew: tent.}tabernacle for the sun,
Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,And rejoiceth as a strong man to run his course.
His going forth is from the end of the heavens,And his circuit unto the ends of it;And there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
The law of Jehovah is perfect, restoring the soul:The testimony of Jehovah is sure, making wise the simple.

More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold;Sweeter also than honey and the droppings of the honeycomb.
Moreover by them is thy servant warned:In keeping them there is great reward.
Who can discern his errors?Clear thou me from hidden faults.
Keep back thy servant also {Or, from the proud}from presumptuous sins;Let them not have dominion over me:Then shall I be upright,And I shall be clear from great transgression.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heartBe acceptable in thy sight,O Jehovah, my rock, and my redeemer.

I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant;For I do not forget thy commandments.
For {Some ancient authorities read finding fault with it, he saith unto them &c.}finding fault with them, he saith, {Jeremiah 31:31 ff}Behold, the days come, saith the Lord,That I will {Greek: accomplish.}make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah;
Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathersIn the day that I took them by the hand to lead them forth out of the land of Egypt;For they continued not in my covenant,And I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
For this is the covenant that {Greek: I will covenant.}I will make with the house of IsraelAfter those days, saith the Lord;I will put my laws into their mind,And on their heart also will I write them:And I will be to them a God,And they shall be to me a people:
For the Chief Musician; set to Muth-labben. A Psalm of David.I will give thanks unto Jehovah with my whole heart;I will show forth all thy marvellous works.
I will be glad and exult in thee;I will sing praise to thy name, O thou {Or, Most High; Because mine &c.}Most High.
When mine enemies turn back,They stumble and perish at thy presence.
For thou hast maintained my right and my cause;Thou sittest in the throne judging righteously.
Thou hast rebuked the {Or, heathen}nations, thou hast destroyed the wicked;Thou hast blotted out their name for ever and ever.
{Or, O thou enemy, desolations are come to a perpetual end}The enemy are come to an end, they are desolate for ever; {Or, And their cities thou hast overthrown.}And the cities which thou hast {Hebrew: plucked up}overthrown,The very remembrance of them is perished.
But Jehovah sitteth as king for ever:He hath prepared his throne for judgment;
And he will judge the world in righteousness,He will minister judgment to the {Or, people}peoples in uprightness.
Jehovah also will be a high tower for the oppressed,A high tower in times of trouble;
And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee;For thou, Jehovah, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.
Sing praises to Jehovah, who dwelleth in Zion:Declare among the {Or, peoples}people his doings.
For he that maketh inquisition for blood remembereth them;He forgetteth not the cry of the {Or, meek}poor.
Have mercy upon me, O Jehovah;Behold my affliction which I suffer of them that hate me,Thou that liftest me up from the gates of death;
That I may show forth all thy praise.In the gates of the daughter of ZionI will rejoice in thy {Or, saving help}salvation.
The nations are sunk down in the pit that they made:In the net which they hid is their own foot taken.
Jehovah hath made himself known, he hath executed judgment: {Or, He snareth the wicked}The wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. [Higgaion. Selah.
The wicked shall be turned back unto Sheol,Even all the nations that forget God.
For the needy shall not alway be forgotten,Nor the expectation of the {Or, meek}poor perish for ever.
Arise, O Jehovah; Let not man prevail:Let the nations be judged in thy sight.
Put them in fear, O Jehovah:Let the nations know themselves to be but men. [Selah.
Why standest thou afar off, O Jehovah?Why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?
In the pride of the wicked {Or, he doth hotly pursue the poor}the poor {Hebrew: is set on fire.}is hotly pursued; {Or, They are taken}Let them be taken in the devices that they have conceived.
For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire,And {Or, blesseth the covetous, but contemneth &c.}the covetous renounceth, yea, {Or, revileth}contemneth Jehovah.
The wicked, in the pride of his countenance, saith, He will not require it.All his thoughts are, There is no God.
His ways are {Or, grievous}firm at all times;Thy judgments are far above out of his sight:As for all his adversaries, he puffeth at them.
He saith in his heart, I shall not be moved;To all generations I shall not be in adversity.
His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and {Or, fraud}oppression:Under his tongue is mischief and iniquity.
He sitteth in the lurking-places of the villages;In the secret places doth he murder the innocent;His eyes are privily set against the {Or, hapless}helpless.
He lurketh in secret as a lion in his covert;He lieth in wait to catch the poor:He doth catch the poor, when he draweth him in his net.
{Another reading is, And being crushed.}He croucheth, he boweth down,And the {Or, hapless}helpless fall by his strong ones.
He saith in his heart, God hath forgotten;He hideth his face; he will never see it.
Arise, O Jehovah; O God, lift up thy hand:Forget not the {Or, meek.}poor.
Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God,And say in his heart, Thou wilt not require it?
Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest {Or, travail and grief}mischief and spite, {Or, to take it into thy hand}to requite it with thy hand:The {Or, hapless}helpless committeth himself unto thee;Thou hast been the helper of the fatherless.
Break thou the arm of the wicked;And as for the evil man, seek out his wickedness till thou find none.
Jehovah is King for ever and ever:The {Or, heathen}nations are perished out of his land.
Jehovah, thou hast heard the desire of the meek:Thou wilt {Or, establish}prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear;
To judge the fatherless and the oppressed,That man who is of the earth may be terrible no more.
A Psalm of David; {See 1 Samuel 21:10-15}when he {Or, feigned madness}changed his behavior before Abimelech, who drove him away, and he departed.I will bless Jehovah at all times:His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul shall make her boast in Jehovah:The meek shall hear thereof, and be glad.
Oh magnify Jehovah with me,And let us exalt his name together.
I sought Jehovah, and he answered me,And delivered me from all my fears.
They looked unto him, and were radiant;And their faces shall never be confounded.
This poor man cried, and Jehovah heard him,And saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of Jehovah encampeth round about them that fear him,And delivereth them.
Oh taste and see that Jehovah is good:Blessed is the man that taketh refuge in him.
Oh fear Jehovah, ye his saints;For there is no want to them that fear him.
The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger;But they that seek Jehovah shall not want any good thing.
Come, ye children, hearken unto me:I will teach you the fear of Jehovah.
What man is he that desireth life,And loveth many days, that he may see good?
Keep thy tongue from evil,And thy lips from speaking guile.
Depart from evil, and do good;Seek peace, and pursue it.
The eyes of Jehovah are toward the righteous,And his ears are open unto their cry.
The face of Jehovah is against them that do evil,To cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
The righteous cried, and Jehovah heard,And delivered them out of all their troubles.
Jehovah is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart,And saveth such as are of a contrite spirit.
Many are the afflictions of the righteous;But Jehovah delivereth him out of them all.
He keepeth all his bones:Not one of them is broken.
Evil shall slay the wicked;And they that hate the righteous shall be {Or, held guilty}condemned.
Jehovah redeemeth the soul of his servants;And none of them that take refuge in him shall be {Or, held guilty}condemned.
A Psalm of David.Fret not thyself because of evil-doers,Neither be thou envious against them that work unrighteousness.
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,And wither as the green herb.
Trust in Jehovah, and do good; {Or, So shall thou dwell in the land and feed securely}Dwell in the land, and {Or, verily thou shall be fed}feed on his faithfulness.
{Or, So shall thou have thy delight in &c.}Delight thyself also in Jehovah;And he will give thee the {Hebrew: petitions.}desires of thy heart.
{Hebrew: Roll thy way upon Jehovah.}Commit thy way unto Jehovah;Trust also in him, and he will bring it to pass.
And he will make thy righteousness to go forth as the light,And thy justice as the noonday.
{Or, Be still before (Hebrew: silent to) Jehovah}Rest in Jehovah, and wait patiently for him:Fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way,Because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath:Fret not thyself, it tendeth only to evil-doing.
For evil-doers shall be cut off;But those that wait for Jehovah, they shall inherit {Or, the earth (and so in verse 11, 22, 29, 34)}the land.
For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be:Yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and {Or, it}he shall not be.
But the meek shall inherit the land,And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
The wicked plotteth against the just,And gnasheth upon him with his teeth.
The Lord will laugh at him;For he seeth that his day is coming.
The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow,To cast down the poor and needy,To slay such as are upright in the way.
Their sword shall enter into their own heart,And their bows shall be broken.
Better is a little that the righteous hathThan the abundance of many wicked.
For the arms of the wicked shall be broken;But Jehovah upholdeth the righteous.
Jehovah knoweth the days of the perfect;And their inheritance shall be for ever.
They shall not be put to shame in the time of evil;And in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
But the wicked shall perish,And the enemies of Jehovah shall be as {Or, the excellency of the pastures}the fat of lambs:They shall consume; {Or, like smoke}in smoke shall they consume away.
The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again;But the righteous dealeth graciously, and giveth.
For such as are blessed of him shall inherit the land;And they that are cursed of him shall be cut off.
A man's goings are established of Jehovah;And he delighteth in his way.
Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;For Jehovah {Or, upholdeth his hand}upholdeth him with his hand.
I have been young, and now am old;Yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken,Nor his seed begging bread.
All the day long he dealeth graciously, and lendeth;And his seed is blessed.
Depart from evil, and do good;And dwell for evermore.
For Jehovah loveth justice,And forsaketh not his saints;They are preserved for ever:But the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
The righteous shall inherit the land,And dwell therein for ever.
The mouth of the righteous talketh of wisdom,And his tongue speaketh justice.
The law of his God is in his heart;None of his steps shall slide.
The wicked watcheth the righteous,And seeketh to slay him.
Jehovah will not leave him in his hand,Nor condemn him when he is judged.
Wait for Jehovah, and keep his way,And he will exalt thee to inherit the land:When the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.
I have seen the wicked in great power,And spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil.
{Or, Yet he passed away}But one passed by, and, lo, he was not:Yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.
Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright;For there is a happy end to the man of peace.
As for transgressors, they shall be destroyed together;The end of the wicked shall be cut off.
But the salvation of the righteous is of Jehovah;He is their stronghold in the time of trouble.
And Jehovah helpeth them, and rescueth them;He rescueth them from the wicked, and saveth them,Because they have taken refuge in him.
{Hebrew: Hallelujah.}Praise ye Jehovah.I will give thanks unto Jehovah with my whole heart,In the council of the upright, and in the congregation.
The works of Jehovah are great,Sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.
His work is honor and majesty;And his righteousness endureth for ever.
He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered:Jehovah is gracious and merciful.
He hath given {Hebrew: prey.}food unto them that fear him:He will ever be mindful of his covenant.
He hath showed his people the power of his works,In giving them the heritage of the nations.
The works of his hands are truth and justice;All his precepts are sure.
They are established for ever and ever;They are {Or, made}done in truth and uprightness.
He hath sent redemption unto his people;He hath commanded his covenant for ever:Holy and reverend is his name.
The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom; {Or, Good repute}A good understanding have all they that do {Hebrew: them.}his commandments:His praise endureth for ever.
{Hebrew: Hallelujah.}Praise ye Jehovah.Blessed is the man that feareth Jehovah,That delighteth greatly in his commandments.
His seed shall be mighty upon earth:The generation of the upright shall be blessed.
Wealth and riches are in his house;And his righteousness endureth for ever.
Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness:He is gracious, and merciful, and righteous.
Well is it with the man that dealeth graciously and lendeth;He shall maintain his cause in judgment.
For he shall never be moved;The righteous shall be had in everlasting remembrance.
He shall not be afraid of evil tidings:His heart is fixed, trusting in Jehovah.
His heart is established, he shall not be afraid,Until he see his desire upon his adversaries.
He hath dispersed, he hath given to the needy;His righteousness endureth for ever:His horn shall be exalted with honor.
The wicked shall see it, and be grieved;He shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away:The desire of the wicked shall perish.
A Psalm of praise; of DavidI will extol thee, my God, O King;And I will bless thy name for ever and ever.
Every day will I bless thee;And I will praise thy name for ever and ever.
Great is Jehovah, and greatly to be praised;And his greatness is unsearchable.
One generation shall laud thy works to another,And shall declare thy mighty acts.
Of the glorious majesty of thine honor,And of thy wondrous works, will I meditate.
And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts;And I will declare thy greatness.
They shall utter the memory of thy great goodness,And shall sing of thy righteousness.
Jehovah is gracious, and merciful;Slow to anger, and of great lovingkindness.
Jehovah is good to all;And his tender mercies are over all his works.
All thy works shall give thanks unto thee, O Jehovah;And thy saints shall bless thee.
They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom,And talk of thy power;
To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts,And the glory of the majesty of his kingdom.
Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,And thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.
Jehovah upholdeth all that fall,And raiseth up all those that are bowed down.
The eyes of all wait for thee;And thou givest them their food in due season.
Thou openest thy hand,And {Or, satisfiest every living thing with favor}satisfiest the desire of every living thing.
Jehovah is righteous in all his ways,And gracious in all his works.
Jehovah is nigh unto all them that call upon him,To all that call upon him in truth.
He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him;He also will hear their cry and will save them.
Jehovah preserveth all them that love him;But all the wicked will he destroy.
My mouth shall speak the praise of Jehovah;And let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.

But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith Jehovah: I will put my law in their inward parts, and in their heart will I write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
And thou, son of man, prophesy unto the mountains of Israel, and say, Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of Jehovah.
Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because the enemy hath said against you, Aha! and, The ancient high places are ours in possession;
therefore prophesy, and say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because, even because they have made you desolate, and swallowed you up on every side, that ye might be a possession unto the residue of the nations, and ye are taken up in the lips of talkers, and the evil report of the people;
therefore, ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord Jehovah: Thus saith the Lord Jehovah to the mountains and to the hills, to the watercourses and to the valleys, to the desolate wastes and to the cities that are forsaken, which are become a prey and derision to the residue of the nations that are round about;
therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the nations, and against all Edom, that have appointed my land unto themselves for a possession with the joy of all their heart, with despite of soul, to cast it out for a prey.
Therefore prophesy concerning the land of Israel, and say unto the mountains and to the hills, to the watercourses and to the valleys, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I have spoken in my jealousy and in my wrath, because ye have borne the shame of the nations:
therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I have {Hebrew: lifted up my hand.}sworn, saying, Surely the nations that are round about you, they shall bear their shame.
But ye, O mountains of Israel, ye shall shoot forth your branches, and yield your fruit to my people Israel; for they are at hand to come.
For, behold, I am for you, and I will turn unto you, and ye shall be tilled and sown;
and I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, even all of it; and the cities shall be inhabited, and the waste places shall be builded;
and I will multiply upon you man and beast; and they shall increase and be fruitful; and I will cause you to be inhabited after your former estate, and will do better unto you than at your beginnings: and ye shall know that I am Jehovah.
Yea, I will cause men to walk upon you, even my people Israel; and they shall possess thee, and thou shalt be their inheritance, and thou shalt no more henceforth bereave them of children.
Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because they say unto you, Thou land art a devourer of men, and hast been a bereaver of thy {Another reading is, nations.}nation;
therefore thou shalt devour men no more, neither {Another reading is, cause to stumble.}bereave thy {Another reading is, nations.}nation any more, saith the Lord Jehovah;
neither will I {Or, proclaim against thee}let thee hear any more the shame of the nations, neither shalt thou bear the reproach of the peoples any more, neither shalt thou cause thy {Another reading is, nations.}nation to stumble any more, saith the Lord Jehovah.
Moreover the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their way and by their doings: their way before me was as the uncleanness of a woman in her impurity.
Wherefore I poured out my wrath upon them for the blood which they had poured out upon the land, and because they had defiled it with their idols;
and I scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed through the countries: according to their way and according to their doings I judged them.
And when they came unto the nations, whither they went, they profaned my holy name; in that men said of them, These are the people of Jehovah, and are gone forth out of his land.
But I had regard for my holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations, whither they went.
Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: {Or, I work not for &c.}I do not this for your sake, O house of Israel, but for my holy name, which ye have profaned among the nations, whither ye went.
And I will sanctify my great name, which hath been profaned among the nations, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the nations shall know that I am Jehovah, saith the Lord Jehovah, when I shall be sanctified in you before {Or, according to another reading, your}their eyes.
For I will take you from among the nations, and gather you out of all the countries, and will bring you into your own land.
And I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.
A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.
And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep mine ordinances, and do them.
And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.
And I will save you from all your uncleannesses: and I will call for the grain, and will multiply it, and lay no famine upon you.
And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye may receive no more the reproach of famine among the nations.
Then shall ye remember your evil ways, and your doings that were not good; and ye shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations.
Nor for your sake {Or, do I work}do I this, saith the Lord Jehovah, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your ways, O house of Israel.
Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: In the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will cause the cities to be inhabited, and the waste places shall be builded.
And the land that was desolate shall be tilled, whereas it was a desolation in the sight of all that passed by.
And they shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are fortified and inhabited.
Then the nations that are left round about you shall know that I, Jehovah, have builded the ruined places, and planted that which was desolate: I, Jehovah, have spoken it, and I will do it.
Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: For this, moreover, will I be inquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them: I will increase them with men like a flock.
As the {Hebrew: flock of holy things.}flock for sacrifice, as the flock of Jerusalem in her appointed feasts, so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men; and they shall know that I am Jehovah.
And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the first day of the month, that the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
Son of man, because that Tyre hath said against Jerusalem, Aha, she is broken that was the gate of the peoples; she is turned unto me; I shall be replenished, now that she is laid waste:
therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah, Behold, I am against thee, O Tyre, and will cause many nations to come up against thee, as the sea causeth its waves to come up.
And they shall destroy the walls of Tyre, and break down her towers: I will also scrape her dust from her, and make her a bare rock.
She shall be a place for the spreading of nets in the midst of the sea; for I have spoken it, saith the Lord Jehovah; and she shall become a spoil to the nations.
And her daughters that are in the field shall be slain with the sword: and they shall know that I am Jehovah.
For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will bring upon Tyre Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, king of kings, from the north, with horses, and with chariots, and with horsemen, and a company, and much people.
He shall slay with the sword thy daughters in the field; and he shall make forts against thee, and cast up a mound against thee, and raise up the buckler against thee.
And he shall set his battering engines against thy walls, and with his {Hebrew: swords.}axes he shall break down thy towers.
By reason of the abundance of his horses their dust shall cover thee: thy walls shall shake at the noise of the horsemen, and of the {Or, wheels}wagons, and of the chariots, when he shall enter into thy gates, as men enter into a city wherein is made a breach.
With the hoofs of his horses shall he tread down all thy streets; he shall slay thy people with the sword; and the {Or, obelisks}pillars of thy strength shall go down to the ground.
And they shall make a spoil of thy riches, and make a prey of thy merchandise; and they shall break down thy walls, and destroy thy pleasant houses; and they shall lay thy stones and thy timber and thy dust in the midst of the waters.
And I will cause the noise of thy songs to cease; and the sound of thy harps shall be no more heard.
And I will make thee a bare rock; thou shalt be a place for the spreading of nets; thou shalt be built no more: for I Jehovah have spoken it, saith the Lord Jehovah.
Thus saith the Lord Jehovah to Tyre: shall not the isles shake at the sound of thy fall, when the wounded groan, when the slaughter is made in the midst of thee?
Then all the princes of the sea shall come down from their thrones, and lay aside their robes, and strip off their broidered garments: they shall clothe themselves with {Hebrew: tremblings.}trembling; they shall sit upon the ground, and shall tremble every moment, and be astonished at thee.
And they shall take up a lamentation over thee, and say to thee, How art thou destroyed, that wast inhabited {Or, being won from the seas}by seafaring men, the renowned city, that was strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, that caused their terror to be on all that {Or, inhabited her}dwelt there!
Now shall the isles tremble in the day of thy fall; yea, the isles that are in the sea shall be dismayed at thy departure.
For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: When I shall make thee a desolate city, like the cities that are not inhabited; when I shall bring up the deep upon thee, and the great waters shall cover thee;
then will I bring thee down with them that descend into the pit, to the people of old time, and will make thee to dwell in the nether parts of the earth, {Another reading is, like.}in the places that are desolate of old, with them that go down to the pit, that thou be not inhabited; {Or, as otherwise read, nor set thy glory &c.}and I will set glory in the land of the living:
I will make thee {Or, a destruction Hebrew: terrors.}a terror, and thou shalt no more have any being; though thou be sought for, yet shalt thou never be found again, saith the Lord Jehovah.
The word of Jehovah came again unto me, saying,
And thou, son of man, take up a lamentation over Tyre;
and say unto Tyre, O thou that dwellest at the {Hebrew: entrances.}entry of the sea, that art the merchant of the peoples unto many isles, thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Thou, O Tyre, hast said, I am perfect in beauty.
Thy borders are in the heart of the seas; thy builders have perfected thy beauty.
They have {Hebrew: built.}made all thy planks of fir-trees from Senir; they have taken a cedar from Lebanon to make a mast for thee.
Of the oaks of Bashan have they made thine oars; they have made thy {Or, deck}benches of ivory inlaid in boxwood, from the isles of Kittim.
Of fine linen with broidered work from Egypt was thy sail, that it might be to thee for an ensign; blue and purple from the isles of Elishah was thine awning.
The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad were thy rowers: thy wise men, O Tyre, were in thee, they were thy pilots.
The {Or, elders}old men of Gebal and the wise men thereof were in thee thy calkers: all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in thee to {Or, exchange}deal in thy merchandise.
Persia and Lud and Put were in thine army, thy men of war: they hanged the shield and helmet in thee; they set forth thy comeliness.
The men of Arvad with thine army were upon thy walls round about, and valorous men were in thy towers; they hanged their shields upon thy walls round about; they have perfected thy beauty.
Tarshish was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of all kinds of riches; with silver, iron, tin, and lead, they traded for thy wares.
Javan, Tubal, and Meshech, they were thy traffickers; they traded the persons of men and vessels of brass for thy merchandise.
They of the house of Togarmah traded for thy wares with horses and war-horses and mules.
The men of Dedan were thy traffickers; many isles were the mart of thy hand: they brought thee {Or, for a present}in exchange horns of ivory and ebony.
Syria was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of thy handiworks: they traded for thy wares with {Or, carbuncles}emeralds, purple, and broidered work, and fine linen, and coral, and rubies.
Judah, and the land of Israel, they were thy traffickers: they traded for thy merchandise wheat of Minnith, and {Perhaps, a kind of confection.}pannag, and honey, and oil, and balm.
Damascus was thy merchant for the multitude of thy handiworks, by reason of the multitude of all kinds of riches, with the wine of Helbon, and white wool.
Vedan and Javan traded {Or, as otherwise read, from Uzal.}with yarn for thy wares: {Or, wrought}bright iron, cassia, and calamus, were among thy merchandise.
Dedan was thy trafficker in precious cloths for riding.
Arabia, and all the princes of Kedar, they were the merchants of thy hand; in lambs, and rams, and goats, in these were they thy merchants.
The traffickers of Sheba and Raamah, they were thy traffickers; they traded for thy wares with the chief of all spices, and with all precious stones, and gold.
Haran and Canneh and Eden, the traffickers of Sheba, Asshur and Chilmad, were thy traffickers.
These were thy traffickers in choice wares, in {Or, bales}wrappings of blue and broidered work, and in chests of rich apparel, bound with cords and made of cedar, among thy merchandise.
The ships of Tarshish were thy caravans for thy merchandise: and thou wast replenished, and made very glorious in the heart of the seas.
Thy rowers have brought thee into great waters: the east wind hath broken thee in the heart of the seas.
Thy riches, and thy wares, thy merchandise, thy mariners, and thy pilots, thy calkers, and the {Or, exchangers}dealers in thy merchandise, and all thy men of war, that are in thee, {Or, and in}with all thy company which is in the midst of thee, shall fall into the heart of the seas in the day of thy ruin.
At the sound of the cry of thy pilots the {Or, waves}suburbs shall shake.
And all that handled the oar, the mariners, and all the pilots of the sea, shall come down from their ships; they shall stand upon the land,
and shall cause their voice to be heard over thee, and shall cry bitterly, and shall cast up dust upon their heads, they shall wallow themselves in the ashes:
and they shall make themselves bald for thee, and gird them with sackcloth, and they shall weep for thee in bitterness of soul with bitter mourning.
And in their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and lament over thee, saying, Who is there like Tyre, like her that is brought to silence in the midst of the sea?
When thy wares went forth out of the seas, thou filledst many peoples; thou didst enrich the kings of the earth with the multitude of thy riches and of thy merchandise.
In the time that thou wast broken by the seas in the depths of the waters, thy merchandise and all thy company did fall in the midst of thee.
All the inhabitants of the isles are astonished at thee, and their kings are horribly afraid; they are troubled in their countenance.
The merchants among the peoples hiss at thee; thou art become {Or, a destruction}a terror, and thou shalt nevermore have any being.
But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
Jehovah in the midst of her is righteous; he will not do iniquity; {Hebrew: morning by morning.}every morning doth he bring his justice to light, he faileth not; but the unjust knoweth no shame.
Whosoever is begotten of God doeth no sin, because his seed abideth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is begotten of God.
Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee;In whose heart are the highways to Zion.
So then, my beloved, even as ye have always obeyed, not {Some ancient authorities omit as.}as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
for it is God who worketh in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure.
Straightway the father of the child cried out, and said {Many ancient authorities add with tears.}, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
Epaphras, who is one of you, a {Greek: bondservant.}servant of Christ Jesus, saluteth you, always striving for you in his prayers, that ye may stand perfect and fully assured in all the will of God.
Because it is contained in {Or, a scripture}scripture, {Isaiah 28:16}Behold, I lay in Zion a chief corner stone, elect, {Or, honorable}precious:And he that believeth on {Or, it}him shall not be put to shame.
If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments.
Cast me not away from thy presence;And take not thy holy Spirit from me.
