A Psalm of David.
Fret not thyself because of evil-doers,
Neither be thou envious against them that work unrighteousness.
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,
And wither as the green herb.
Trust in Jehovah, and do good;
{Or, So shall thou dwell in the land and feed securely}Dwell in the land, and {Or, verily thou shall be fed}feed on his faithfulness.
{Or, So shall thou have thy delight in &c.}Delight thyself also in Jehovah;
And he will give thee the {Hebrew: petitions.}desires of thy heart.
{Hebrew: Roll thy way upon Jehovah.}Commit thy way unto Jehovah;
Trust also in him, and he will bring it to pass.
And he will make thy righteousness to go forth as the light,
And thy justice as the noonday.
{Or, Be still before (Hebrew: silent to) Jehovah}Rest in Jehovah, and wait patiently for him:
Fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way,
Because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath:
Fret not thyself, it tendeth only to evil-doing.
For evil-doers shall be cut off;
But those that wait for Jehovah, they shall inherit {Or, the earth (and so in verse 11, 22, 29, 34)}the land.
For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be:
Yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and {Or, it}he shall not be.
But the meek shall inherit the land,
And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
The wicked plotteth against the just,
And gnasheth upon him with his teeth.
The Lord will laugh at him;
For he seeth that his day is coming.
The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow,
To cast down the poor and needy,
To slay such as are upright in the way.
Their sword shall enter into their own heart,
And their bows shall be broken.
Better is a little that the righteous hath
Than the abundance of many wicked.
For the arms of the wicked shall be broken;
But Jehovah upholdeth the righteous.
Jehovah knoweth the days of the perfect;
And their inheritance shall be for ever.
They shall not be put to shame in the time of evil;
And in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
But the wicked shall perish,
And the enemies of Jehovah shall be as {Or, the excellency of the pastures}the fat of lambs:
They shall consume; {Or, like smoke}in smoke shall they consume away.
The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again;
But the righteous dealeth graciously, and giveth.
For such as are blessed of him shall inherit the land;
And they that are cursed of him shall be cut off.
A man's goings are established of Jehovah;
And he delighteth in his way.
Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;
For Jehovah {Or, upholdeth his hand}upholdeth him with his hand.
I have been young, and now am old;
Yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken,
Nor his seed begging bread.
All the day long he dealeth graciously, and lendeth;
And his seed is blessed.
Depart from evil, and do good;
And dwell for evermore.
For Jehovah loveth justice,
And forsaketh not his saints;
They are preserved for ever:
But the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
The righteous shall inherit the land,
And dwell therein for ever.
The mouth of the righteous talketh of wisdom,
And his tongue speaketh justice.
The law of his God is in his heart;
None of his steps shall slide.
The wicked watcheth the righteous,
And seeketh to slay him.
Jehovah will not leave him in his hand,
Nor condemn him when he is judged.
Wait for Jehovah, and keep his way,
And he will exalt thee to inherit the land:
When the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.
I have seen the wicked in great power,
And spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil.
{Or, Yet he passed away}But one passed by, and, lo, he was not:
Yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.
Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright;
For there is a happy end to the man of peace.
As for transgressors, they shall be destroyed together;
The end of the wicked shall be cut off.
But the salvation of the righteous is of Jehovah;
He is their stronghold in the time of trouble.
And Jehovah helpeth them, and rescueth them;
He rescueth them from the wicked, and saveth them,
Because they have taken refuge in him.
Querverweise zu Psalm 37,3 Ps 37,3
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness,And put your trust in Jehovah.
And Jehovah appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:
To deliver their soul from death,And to keep them alive in famine.
A Psalm of David.Judge me, O Jehovah, for I have walked in mine integrity:I have trusted also in Jehovah {Or, I shall not slide}without wavering.
Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it be Jehovah that hath stirred thee up against me, let him {Hebrew: smell.}accept an offering: but if it be the children of men, cursed be they before Jehovah: for they have driven me out this day that I should {Or, have no share in}not cleave unto the inheritance of Jehovah, saying, Go, serve other gods.
Oh fear Jehovah, ye his saints;For there is no want to them that fear him.
Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;
learn to do well; seek justice, {Or, set right the oppressor}relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
Come now, and let us reason together, saith Jehovah: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:
These all died {Greek: according to.}in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
For they that say such things make it manifest that they are seeking after a country of their own.
And if indeed they had been mindful of that country from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return.
But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God; for he hath prepared for them a city.
The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger;But they that seek Jehovah shall not want any good thing.
Who is among you that feareth Jehovah, that obeyeth the voice of his servant? {Or, though he walketh}he that walketh in darkness, and hath no light, let him trust in the name of Jehovah, and rely upon his God.
Be not therefore anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
For after all these things do the Gentiles seek; for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Blessed is the man that trusteth in Jehovah, and whose trust Jehovah is.
And he said unto them, When I sent you forth without purse, and wallet, and shoes, lacked ye anything? And they said, Nothing.
For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, that spreadeth out its roots by the river, and shall not {According to another reading, see.}fear when heat cometh, but its leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
but thanks be to God, who giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not {Or, void}vain in the Lord.
for God is not unrighteous to forget your work and the love which ye showed toward his name, in that ye ministered unto the saints, and still do minister.
And we desire that each one of you may show the same diligence unto the {Or, full assurance}fulness of hope even to the end:
that ye be not sluggish, but imitators of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
