For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament showeth his handiwork.
Day unto day uttereth speech,
And night unto night showeth knowledge.
There is no speech nor language;
Their voice is not heard.
Their line is gone out through all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.
In them hath he set a {Hebrew: tent.}tabernacle for the sun,
Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
And rejoiceth as a strong man to run his course.
His going forth is from the end of the heavens,
And his circuit unto the ends of it;
And there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
The law of Jehovah is perfect, restoring the soul:
The testimony of Jehovah is sure, making wise the simple.
The precepts of Jehovah are right, rejoicing the heart:
The commandment of Jehovah is pure, enlightening the eyes.
The fear of Jehovah is clean, enduring for ever:
The ordinances of Jehovah are true, and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the droppings of the honeycomb.
Moreover by them is thy servant warned:
In keeping them there is great reward.
Who can discern his errors?
Clear thou me from hidden faults.
Keep back thy servant also {Or, from the proud}from presumptuous sins;
Let them not have dominion over me:
Then shall I be upright,
And I shall be clear from great transgression.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in thy sight,
O Jehovah, my rock, and my redeemer.
Querverweise zu Psalm 19,9 Ps 19,9
Come, ye children, hearken unto me:I will teach you the fear of Jehovah.
What man is he that desireth life,And loveth many days, that he may see good?
Keep thy tongue from evil,And thy lips from speaking guile.
Depart from evil, and do good;Seek peace, and pursue it.
The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom; {Or, Good repute}A good understanding have all they that do {Hebrew: them.}his commandments:His praise endureth for ever.
His ways are {Or, grievous}firm at all times;Thy judgments are far above out of his sight:As for all his adversaries, he puffeth at them.
For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David the servant of Jehovah. {Or, Transgression saith to the wicked}The transgression of the wicked {Or, uttereth its oracle}saith within my heart,There is no fear of God before his eyes.
{Hebrew: Hallelujah.}Praise ye Jehovah.Blessed is the man that feareth Jehovah,That delighteth greatly in his commandments.
His seed shall be mighty upon earth:The generation of the upright shall be blessed.
Wealth and riches are in his house;And his righteousness endureth for ever.
Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness:He is gracious, and merciful, and righteous.
Well is it with the man that dealeth graciously and lendeth;He shall maintain his cause in judgment.
For he shall never be moved;The righteous shall be had in everlasting remembrance.
Thy righteousness is like the mountains of God;Thy judgments are a great deep:O Jehovah, thou preservest man and beast.
He will bless them that fear Jehovah,Both small and great.
A Psalm of Solomon.Give the king thy judgments, O God,And thy righteousness unto the king's son.
And he said, Lay not thy hand upon the lad, neither do thou anything unto him; for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son, from me.
{Or, Let him (and so throughout the Psalm)}He will judge thy people with righteousness,And thy poor with justice.
And Joseph said unto them the third day, This do, and live: for I fear God:
I will give thanks unto thee with uprightness of heart,When I learn thy righteous judgments.
Only fear Jehovah, and serve him in truth with all your heart; for consider how great things he hath done for you.
Turn away my reproach whereof I am afraid;For thine ordinances are good.
And Ahab called Obadiah, who was over the household. (Now Obadiah feared Jehovah greatly:
At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto theeBecause of thy righteous ordinances.
for it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of Jehovah, that Obadiah took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)
I know, O Jehovah, that thy judgments are righteous,And that in faithfulness thou hast afflicted me.
And it will come to pass, as soon as I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of Jehovah will carry thee whither I know not; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he will slay me: but I thy servant fear Jehovah from my youth.
I have sworn, and have confirmed it,That I will observe thy righteous ordinances.
But the former governors that were before me {Or, laid burdens upon}were chargeable unto the people, and took of them bread and wine, {Or, at the rate of Or, afterward}besides forty shekels of silver; yea, even their servants {Or, lorded over}bare rule over the people: but so did not I, because of the fear of God.
צ TSADHE.Righteous art thou, O Jehovah,And upright {Or, in thy judgements}are thy judgments.
The fear of Jehovah is to hate evil:Pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way,And the perverse mouth, do I hate.
Thou hast commanded thy testimonies in righteousnessAnd very faithfulness.
And they said, Cornelius a centurion, a righteous man and one that feareth God, and well reported of by all the nation of the Jews, was warned of God by a holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words from thee.
Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness,And thy law is truth.
as it is written, {Psalm 14:1 ff.; 53:1 ff}There is none righteous, no, not one;
There is none that understandeth,There is none that seeketh after God;
They have all turned aside, they are together become unprofitable;There is none that doeth good, no, not so much as one:
{Psalm 5:9}Their throat is an open sepulchre;With their tongues they have used deceit: {Psalm 140:3}The poison of asps is under their lips:
{Psalm 10:7}Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
{Isaiah 59:7 f.}Their feet are swift to shed blood;
Destruction and misery are in their ways;
And the way of peace have they not known:
{Psalm 36:1}There is no fear of God before their eyes.
א ALEPH.Blessed are they that are {Or, upright in way}perfect in the way,Who walk in the law of Jehovah.
He showeth his word unto Jacob,His statutes and his ordinances unto Israel.
Now these are the ordinances which thou shalt set before them.
And what great nation is there, that hath statutes and ordinances so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?
Yea, in the way of thy judgments, O Jehovah, have we waited for thee; to thy name, even to thy memorial name, is the desire of our soul.
{Many ancient authorities read For.}And we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against them that practise such things.
Behold then the goodness and severity of God: toward them that fell, severity; but toward thee, God's goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

And I heard the altar saying, Yea, O Lord God, the Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.
for true and righteous are his judgments; for he hath judged the great harlot, her that corrupted the earth with her fornication, and he hath avenged the blood of his {Greek: bondservants.}servants at her hand.
