Why standest thou afar off, O Jehovah?
Why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?
In the pride of the wicked {Or, he doth hotly pursue the poor}the poor {Hebrew: is set on fire.}is hotly pursued;
{Or, They are taken}Let them be taken in the devices that they have conceived.
For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire,
And {Or, blesseth the covetous, but contemneth &c.}the covetous renounceth, yea, {Or, revileth}contemneth Jehovah.
The wicked, in the pride of his countenance, saith, He will not require it.
All his thoughts are, There is no God.
His ways are {Or, grievous}firm at all times;
Thy judgments are far above out of his sight:
As for all his adversaries, he puffeth at them.
He saith in his heart, I shall not be moved;
To all generations I shall not be in adversity.
His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and {Or, fraud}oppression:
Under his tongue is mischief and iniquity.
He sitteth in the lurking-places of the villages;
In the secret places doth he murder the innocent;
His eyes are privily set against the {Or, hapless}helpless.
He lurketh in secret as a lion in his covert;
He lieth in wait to catch the poor:
He doth catch the poor, when he draweth him in his net.
{Another reading is, And being crushed.}He croucheth, he boweth down,
And the {Or, hapless}helpless fall by his strong ones.
He saith in his heart, God hath forgotten;
He hideth his face; he will never see it.
Arise, O Jehovah; O God, lift up thy hand:
Forget not the {Or, meek.}poor.
Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God,
And say in his heart, Thou wilt not require it?
Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest {Or, travail and grief}mischief and spite, {Or, to take it into thy hand}to requite it with thy hand:
The {Or, hapless}helpless committeth himself unto thee;
Thou hast been the helper of the fatherless.
Break thou the arm of the wicked;
And as for the evil man, seek out his wickedness till thou find none.
Jehovah is King for ever and ever:
The {Or, heathen}nations are perished out of his land.
Jehovah, thou hast heard the desire of the meek:
Thou wilt {Or, establish}prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear;
To judge the fatherless and the oppressed,
That man who is of the earth may be terrible no more.
Querverweise zu Psalm 10,7 Ps 10,7
For the sin of their mouth, and the words of their lips,Let them even be taken in their pride,And for cursing and lying which they speak.
For there is no {Or, stedfastness}faithfulness in their mouth;Their inward part is {Or, a yawning gulf}very wickedness;Their throat is an open sepulchre;They {Hebrew: make smooth with tongue}flatter with their tongue.
Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth,Though he hide it under his tongue,
Behold, he travaileth with iniquity;Yea, he hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.
They speak falsehood every one with his neighbor:With flattering lip, and with a double heart, do they speak.
They only consult to thrust him down from his dignity;They delight in lies;They bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. [Selah
Behold, he travaileth with iniquity;Yea, he hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.
As for the head of those that compass me about,Let the mischief of their own lips cover them.
And if he come to see me, he speaketh falsehood;His heart gathereth iniquity to itself:When he goeth abroad, he telleth it.
{Psalm 10:7}Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit:He hath ceased to be wise and to do good.
They conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity,And their heart prepareth deceit.
Whose mouth speaketh deceit,And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.
Thou lovest all devouring words, {Or, And the deceitful tongue}O thou deceitful tongue.
Ye offspring of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
Rescue me, and deliver me out of the hand of aliens,Whose mouth speaketh deceit,And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.
His mouth was smooth as butter,But his heart was war:His words were softer than oil,Yet were they drawn swords.
And the tongue is {Or, a fire, that world of iniquity: the tongue is among our members that which &c.}a fire: the {Or, that world of iniquity: the tongue, is among our members that which &c.}world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the wheel of {Or, birth}nature, and is set on fire by {Greek: Gehenna.}hell.
For every {Greek: nature.}kind of beasts and birds, of creeping things and things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed {Or, unto}by {Greek: the human nature.}mankind:
but the tongue can no man tame; it is a restless evil, it is full of deadly poison.
The getting of treasures by a lying tongueIs a vapor driven to and fro by them that seek death.
The wicked are estranged from the womb:They go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies.
Remove far from me falsehood and lies;Give me neither poverty nor riches;Feed me with {Hebrew: the bread of my portion.}the food that is needful for me:
Who have whet their tongue like a sword,And have aimed their arrows, even bitter words,
None {Hebrew: called.}sueth in righteousness, and none pleadeth in truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.
And they bend their tongue, as it were their bow, for falsehood; and they are grown strong in the land, but not for {Or, faithfulness}truth: for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith Jehovah.
Thy habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith Jehovah.
{Psalm 5:9}Their throat is an open sepulchre;With their tongues they have used deceit: {Psalm 140:3}The poison of asps is under their lips:
