Versliste
My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea; and I will make them into rafts to go by sea unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be broken up there, and thou shalt {Or, carry them away}receive them; and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.
So {Hebrew: Hirom (and in verse 18).}Hiram gave Solomon timber of cedar and timber of fir according to all his desire.
And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand {Hebrew: cor.}measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of {Or, beaten}pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.
And Jehovah gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.
And king Solomon raised a {Hebrew: men subject to taskwork.}levy out of all Israel; and the {Hebrew: men subject to taskwork.}levy was thirty thousand men.
And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses; a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home; and Adoniram was over the men subject to taskwork.
Judah and Israel were many as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking and making merry. {[Chapter 5:1 in Hebrew]}
that in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heavens, and as the sand which is upon the seashore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judæa in the days of Herod the king, behold, {Greek: Magi. Compare Esther 1:13; Daniel 2:12; Acts 13:6, 8.}Wise-men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying,
And Moses was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians; and he was mighty in his words and works.
The princes of Zoan are utterly foolish; the counsel of the wisest counsellors of Pharaoh is become brutish: how say ye unto Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?
Where then are thy wise men? and let them tell thee now; and let them know what Jehovah of hosts hath purposed concerning Egypt.
{Or, See whether}Take heed lest there shall be any one that maketh spoil of you through his philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the {Or, elements See Galatians 4:3 margin}rudiments of the world, and not after Christ:
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who was made unto us wisdom from God, {Or, both rightousness and sanctification and redemption}and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption:
So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were appointed with cymbals of brass to sound aloud;
All these were the sons of Heman the king's seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.
Maschil of Ethan the Ezrahite.I will sing of the lovingkindness of Jehovah for ever:With my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.
A Song, a Psalm of the sons of Korah; for the Chief Musician; set to Mahalath {Or, for singing}Leannoth. Maschil of Heman the Ezrahite.O Jehovah, the God of my salvation,I have cried day and night before thee.
Maschil of Ethan the Ezrahite.I will sing of the lovingkindness of Jehovah for ever:With my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.
For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever;Thy faithfulness wilt thou establish in the very heavens.
I have made a covenant with my chosen,I have sworn unto David my servant:
Thy seed will I establish for ever,And build up thy throne to all generations. [Selah
And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O Jehovah;Thy faithfulness also in the assembly of the holy ones.
For who in the skies can be compared unto Jehovah?Who among the {Or, sons of God}sons of the {Or, gods See Psalm 29:1.}mighty is like unto Jehovah,
A God very terrible in the council of the holy ones,And to be feared above all them that are round about him?
O Jehovah God of hosts,Who is a mighty one, like unto thee, O {Hebrew: Jah.}Jehovah? And thy faithfulness is round about thee.
Thou rulest the pride of the sea:When the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.
Thou hast broken {Or, Egypt}Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain;Thou hast scattered thine enemies with the arm of thy strength.
The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine:The world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.
The north and the south, thou hast created them:Tabor and Hermon rejoice in thy name.
Thou hast {Hebrew: an arm with might.}a mighty arm;Strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of thy throne:Lovingkindness and truth go before thy face.
Blessed is the people that know the {Or, trumpet sound}joyful sound:They walk, O Jehovah, in the light of thy countenance.
In thy name do they rejoice all the day;And in thy righteousness are they exalted.
For thou art the glory of their strength; And in thy favor {Another reading is, thou shall exalt our horn.}our horn shall be exalted.
For our shield belongeth unto Jehovah; {Or, Even to the Holy One of Israel our King}And our king to the Holy One of Israel.
Then thou spakest in vision to thy {Or, as otherwise read, saint.}saints,And saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty;I have exalted one chosen out of the people.
I have found David my servant; With my holy oil have I anointed him:
With whom my hand shall be established;Mine arm also shall strengthen him.
The enemy shall not {Or, do him violence}exact from him,Nor the son of wickedness afflict him.
And I will beat down his adversaries before him,And smite them that hate him.
But my faithfulness and my lovingkindness shall be with him;And in my name shall his horn be exalted.
I will set his hand also on the sea,And his right hand on the rivers.
He shall cry unto me, Thou art my Father,My God, and the rock of my salvation.
I also will make him my first-born,The highest of the kings of the earth.
My lovingkindness will I keep for him for evermore; And my covenant shall {Or, be faithful}stand fast with him.
His seed also will I make to endure for ever,And his throne as the days of heaven.
If his children forsake my law,And walk not in mine ordinances;
If they {Hebrew: profane.}break my statutes,And keep not my commandments;
Then will I visit their transgression with the rod,And their iniquity with stripes.
But my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him,Nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.
My covenant will I not {Hebrew: profane.}break,Nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
{Or, One thing}Once have I sworn by my holiness:I will not lie unto David:
His seed shall endure for ever,And his throne as the sun before me.
{Or, As the moon which is established for ever}It shall be established for ever as the moon, {Or, And the witness in the sky is faithful}And as the faithful witness in the sky. [Selah
But thou hast cast off and rejected,Thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.
Thou hast abhorred the covenant of thy servant:Thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.
Thou hast broken down all his hedges;Thou hast brought his strongholds to ruin.
All that pass by the way rob him:He is become a reproach to his neighbors.
Thou hast exalted the right hand of his adversaries;Thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.
Yea, thou turnest back the edge of his sword,And hast not made him to stand in the battle.
Thou hast made his brightness to cease,And cast his throne down to the ground.
The days of his youth hast thou shortened:Thou hast covered him with shame. [Selah
How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou hide thyself for ever? How long shall thy wrath burn like fire?
Oh remember how short my time is:For what vanity hast thou created all the children of men!
What man is he that shall live and not see death,That shall deliver his soul from the {Hebrew: hand.}power of Sheol? [Selah
Lord, where are thy former lovingkindnesses,Which thou swarest unto David in thy faithfulness?
Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; How I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the {Or, many}mighty peoples,
Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O Jehovah,Wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.
Blessed be Jehovah for evermore.Amen, and Amen.
A Song, a Psalm of the sons of Korah; for the Chief Musician; set to Mahalath {Or, for singing}Leannoth. Maschil of Heman the Ezrahite.O Jehovah, the God of my salvation,I have cried day and night before thee.
Let my prayer enter into thy presence;Incline thine ear unto my cry.
For my soul is full of troubles,And my life draweth nigh unto Sheol.
I am reckoned with them that go down into the pit;I am as a man that hath no help,
Cast {Or, away}off among the dead,Like the slain that lie in the grave,Whom thou rememberest no more,And they are cut off from thy hand.
Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit,In dark places, in the deeps.
Thy wrath lieth hard upon me,And thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. [Selah
Thou hast put mine acquaintance far from me;Thou hast made me an abomination unto them:I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.
Mine eye wasteth away by reason of affliction:I have called daily upon thee, O Jehovah;I have spread forth my hands unto thee.
Wilt thou show wonders to the dead?Shall {Or, the shades Hebrew: Rephaim.}they that are decreased arise and praise thee? [Selah
Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave?Or thy faithfulness in {Hebrew: Abaddon. See Job 26:6.}Destruction?
Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? And thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
But unto thee, O Jehovah, have I cried; And in the morning shall my prayer come before thee.
Jehovah, why castest thou off my soul? Why hidest thou thy face from me?
I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up:While I suffer thy terrors I am distracted.
Thy fierce wrath is gone over me;Thy terrors have cut me off.
They came round about me like water all the day long; They compassed me about together.
Lover and friend hast thou put far from me,And mine acquaintance {Or, are darkness}into darkness.
A Psalm of Solomon.Give the king thy judgments, O God,And thy righteousness unto the king's son.
A Song of Ascents; of Solomon.Except Jehovah build the house,They labor in vain that build it:Except Jehovah keep the city,The watchman waketh but in vain.
then shall the priest command to take for him that is to be cleansed two living clean birds, and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssop:
and the priest shall command to kill one of the birds in an earthen vessel over {Hebrew: living.}running water.
As for the living bird, he shall take it, and the cedar wood, and the scarlet, and the hyssop, and shall dip them and the living bird in the blood of the bird that was killed over the {Hebrew: living.}running water:
and he shall sprinkle upon him that is to be cleansed from the leprosy seven times, and shall pronounce him clean, and shall let go the living bird into the open field.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
And the earth was waste and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep: and the Spirit of God {Or, was brooding upon}moved upon the face of the waters.
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.
And God said, Let there be a {Hebrew: expanse.}firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
And God called the firmament Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.
And God said, Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
And God said, Let the earth put forth grass, herbs yielding seed, and fruit-trees bearing fruit after their kind, wherein is the seed thereof, upon the earth: and it was so.
And the earth brought forth grass, herbs yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit, wherein is the seed thereof, after their kind: and God saw that it was good.
And there was evening and there was morning, a third day.
And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years:
and let them be for lights in the firmament of heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
And God made the two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
And God set them in the firmament of heaven to give light upon the earth,
and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.
And God said, Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth {Hebrew: on the face of the expanse of the heavens.}in the open firmament of heaven.
And God created the great sea-monsters, and every living creature that moveth, wherewith the waters swarmed, after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind: and God saw that it was good.
And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.
And there was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.
And God said, Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind, cattle, and creeping things, and beasts of the earth after their kind: and it was so.
And God made the beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creepeth upon the ground after its kind: and God saw that it was good.
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
And God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
And God blessed them: and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over every living thing that {Or, creepeth}moveth upon the earth.
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food:
and to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the heavens, and to everything that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is {Hebrew: a living soul.}life, I have given every green herb for food: and it was so.
And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
that the creation itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the liberty of the glory of the children of God.
And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare burdens, and fourscore thousand that were hewers in the mountains;
And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of Jehovah, she came to prove him with hard questions.
And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that bare spices, and very much gold, and precious stones; and when she was come to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.
And Solomon told her all her questions: there was not anything hid from the king which he told her not.
And when the queen of Sheba had seen all the wisdom of Solomon, and the house that he had built,
and the food of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the {Hebrew: standing.}attendance of his ministers, and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and {Or, his burnt-offering which he offered in &c.}his ascent by which he went up unto the house of Jehovah; there was no more spirit in her.
And she said to the king, It was a true report that I heard in mine own land of thine {Or, sayings}acts, and of thy wisdom.
Howbeit I believed not the words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the half was not told me; {Hebrw: thou hast added wisdom and goodness to the fame.}thy wisdom and prosperity exceed the fame which I heard.
Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, that stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom.
Blessed be Jehovah thy God, who delighted in thee, to set thee on the throne of Israel: because Jehovah loved Israel for ever, therefore made he thee king, to do justice and righteousness.
