A Song, a Psalm of the sons of Korah; for the Chief Musician; set to Mahalath {Or, for singing}Leannoth. Maschil of Heman the Ezrahite.
O Jehovah, the God of my salvation,
I have cried day and night before thee.
Let my prayer enter into thy presence;
Incline thine ear unto my cry.
For my soul is full of troubles,
And my life draweth nigh unto Sheol.
I am reckoned with them that go down into the pit;
I am as a man that hath no help,
Cast {Or, away}off among the dead,
Like the slain that lie in the grave,
Whom thou rememberest no more,
And they are cut off from thy hand.
Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit,
In dark places, in the deeps.
Thy wrath lieth hard upon me,
And thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. [Selah
Thou hast put mine acquaintance far from me;
Thou hast made me an abomination unto them:
I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.
Mine eye wasteth away by reason of affliction:
I have called daily upon thee, O Jehovah;
I have spread forth my hands unto thee.
Wilt thou show wonders to the dead?
Shall {Or, the shades Hebrew: Rephaim.}they that are decreased arise and praise thee? [Selah
Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave?
Or thy faithfulness in {Hebrew: Abaddon. See Job 26:6.}Destruction?
Shall thy wonders be known in the dark?
And thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
But unto thee, O Jehovah, have I cried;
And in the morning shall my prayer come before thee.
Jehovah, why castest thou off my soul?
Why hidest thou thy face from me?
I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up:
While I suffer thy terrors I am distracted.
Thy fierce wrath is gone over me;
Thy terrors have cut me off.
They came round about me like water all the day long;
They compassed me about together.
Lover and friend hast thou put far from me,
And mine acquaintance {Or, are darkness}into darkness.
Querverweise zu Psalm 88,4 Ps 88,4
A Psalm of David.Unto thee, O Jehovah, will I call:My rock, be not thou deaf unto me;Lest, if thou be silent unto me,I become like them that go down into the pit.
I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind:I am like a broken vessel.
What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit?Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?
For I am poor and needy,And my heart is wounded within me.
I am gone like the shadow when it {Or, is stretched out}declineth:I am tossed up and down as the locust.
My knees {Or, totter}are weak through fasting;And my flesh faileth of fatness.
Make haste to answer me, O Jehovah; my spirit faileth:Hide not thy face from me,Lest I become like them that go down into the pit.
For while we were yet weak, in due season Christ died for the ungodly.
My spirit is consumed, my days are extinct,The grave is ready for me.
for he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth through the power of God. For we also are weak {Many ancient authorities read with.}in him, but we shall live with him through the power of God toward you.
Behold, it was for my peace that I had great bitterness:But {Hebrew: thou hast loved my soul from the pit.}thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of {Or, nothingness}corruption;For thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.
For Sheol cannot praise thee, death cannot celebrate thee:They that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.
then will I bring thee down with them that descend into the pit, to the people of old time, and will make thee to dwell in the nether parts of the earth, {Another reading is, like.}in the places that are desolate of old, with them that go down to the pit, that thou be not inhabited; {Or, as otherwise read, nor set thy glory &c.}and I will set glory in the land of the living:
I went down to the bottoms of the mountains;The earth with its bars closed upon me for ever:Yet hast thou brought up my life from {Or, corruption}the pit, O Jehovah my God.
{Or, but we ourselves}yea, we ourselves have had the {Greek: answer.}sentence of death within ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raiseth the dead:
