Maschil of Ethan the Ezrahite.
I will sing of the lovingkindness of Jehovah for ever:
With my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.
For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever;
Thy faithfulness wilt thou establish in the very heavens.
I have made a covenant with my chosen,
I have sworn unto David my servant:
Thy seed will I establish for ever,
And build up thy throne to all generations. [Selah
And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O Jehovah;
Thy faithfulness also in the assembly of the holy ones.
For who in the skies can be compared unto Jehovah?
Who among the {Or, sons of God}sons of the {Or, gods See Psalm 29:1.}mighty is like unto Jehovah,
A God very terrible in the council of the holy ones,
And to be feared above all them that are round about him?
O Jehovah God of hosts,
Who is a mighty one, like unto thee, O {Hebrew: Jah.}Jehovah?
And thy faithfulness is round about thee.
Thou rulest the pride of the sea:
When the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.
Thou hast broken {Or, Egypt}Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain;
Thou hast scattered thine enemies with the arm of thy strength.
The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine:
The world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.
The north and the south, thou hast created them:
Tabor and Hermon rejoice in thy name.
Thou hast {Hebrew: an arm with might.}a mighty arm;
Strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of thy throne:
Lovingkindness and truth go before thy face.
Blessed is the people that know the {Or, trumpet sound}joyful sound:
They walk, O Jehovah, in the light of thy countenance.
In thy name do they rejoice all the day;
And in thy righteousness are they exalted.
For thou art the glory of their strength;
And in thy favor {Another reading is, thou shall exalt our horn.}our horn shall be exalted.
For our shield belongeth unto Jehovah;
{Or, Even to the Holy One of Israel our King}And our king to the Holy One of Israel.
Then thou spakest in vision to thy {Or, as otherwise read, saint.}saints,
And saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty;
I have exalted one chosen out of the people.
I have found David my servant;
With my holy oil have I anointed him:
With whom my hand shall be established;
Mine arm also shall strengthen him.
The enemy shall not {Or, do him violence}exact from him,
Nor the son of wickedness afflict him.
And I will beat down his adversaries before him,
And smite them that hate him.
But my faithfulness and my lovingkindness shall be with him;
And in my name shall his horn be exalted.
I will set his hand also on the sea,
And his right hand on the rivers.
He shall cry unto me, Thou art my Father,
My God, and the rock of my salvation.
I also will make him my first-born,
The highest of the kings of the earth.
My lovingkindness will I keep for him for evermore;
And my covenant shall {Or, be faithful}stand fast with him.
His seed also will I make to endure for ever,
And his throne as the days of heaven.
If his children forsake my law,
And walk not in mine ordinances;
If they {Hebrew: profane.}break my statutes,
And keep not my commandments;
Then will I visit their transgression with the rod,
And their iniquity with stripes.
But my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him,
Nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.
My covenant will I not {Hebrew: profane.}break,
Nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
{Or, One thing}Once have I sworn by my holiness:
I will not lie unto David:
His seed shall endure for ever,
And his throne as the sun before me.
{Or, As the moon which is established for ever}It shall be established for ever as the moon,
{Or, And the witness in the sky is faithful}And as the faithful witness in the sky. [Selah
But thou hast cast off and rejected,
Thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.
Thou hast abhorred the covenant of thy servant:
Thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.
Thou hast broken down all his hedges;
Thou hast brought his strongholds to ruin.
All that pass by the way rob him:
He is become a reproach to his neighbors.
Thou hast exalted the right hand of his adversaries;
Thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.
Yea, thou turnest back the edge of his sword,
And hast not made him to stand in the battle.
Thou hast made his brightness to cease,
And cast his throne down to the ground.
The days of his youth hast thou shortened:
Thou hast covered him with shame. [Selah
How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou hide thyself for ever?
How long shall thy wrath burn like fire?
Oh remember how short my time is:
For what vanity hast thou created all the children of men!
What man is he that shall live and not see death,
That shall deliver his soul from the {Hebrew: hand.}power of Sheol? [Selah
Lord, where are thy former lovingkindnesses,
Which thou swarest unto David in thy faithfulness?
Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants;
How I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the {Or, many}mighty peoples,
Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O Jehovah,
Wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.
Blessed be Jehovah for evermore.
Amen, and Amen.
Querverweise zu Psalm 89,38 Ps 89,38
But now thou hast cast us off, and brought us to dishonor,And goest not forth with our hosts.
Thou makest us to turn back from the adversary;And they that hate us take spoil for themselves.
Thou hast made us like sheep appointed for food,And hast scattered us among the nations.
Thou sellest thy people for nought,And hast not increased thy wealth by their price.
Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbors,A scoffing and a derision to them that are round about us.
Thou makest us a byword among the nations,A shaking of the head among the peoples.
All the day long is my dishonor before me,And the shame of my face hath covered me,
For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth,By reason of the enemy and the avenger.
All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee,Neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.
Our heart is not turned back,Neither have our steps declined from thy way,
{Or, Through}That thou hast sore broken us in the place of jackals,And covered us with the shadow of death.
If we have forgotten the name of our God,Or spread forth our hands to a strange god;
Will not God search this out?For he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long;We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord?Arise, cast us not off for ever.
Wherefore hidest thou thy face,And forgettest our affliction and our oppression?
For our soul is bowed down to the dust:Our body cleaveth unto the earth.
Rise up for our help,And redeem us for thy lovingkindness' sake.
When God heard this, he was wroth,And greatly abhorred Israel;
Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O Jehovah,Wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.
For the Chief Musician; set to {That is, The lily of testimony.}Shushan Eduth. Michtam of David, to teach; when he strove with Aram-naharaim and with Aram-zobah, and Joab returned, and smote of Edom in the Valley of Salt twelve thousand.O God thou hast cast us off, thou hast broken us down;Thou hast been angry; oh restore us again.
Therefore was the wrath of Jehovah kindled against his people,And he abhorred his inheritance.
{Or, behold our shield, O God}Behold, O God our shield,And look upon the face of thine anointed.
{Or, Will not thou, O God, who hast cast us off, And goest…hosts?}Hast not thou, O God, cast us off?And thou goest not forth, O God, with our hosts.
And Jehovah saw it, and abhorred them,Because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.
Ye mountains of Gilboa,Let there be no dew nor rain upon you, neither fields of offerings:For there the shield of the mighty was {Or, defiled}vilely cast away,The shield of Saul, {Or, as of one not anointed}not anointed with oil.
Will the Lord cast off for ever?And will he be favorable no more?
The Lord hath cast off his altar, he hath abhorred his sanctuary;He hath given up into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces:They have made a noise in the house of Jehovah, as in the day of a solemn assembly.
but if he say thus, I have no delight in thee; behold, here am I, let him do to me as seemeth good unto him.
And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind; for Jehovah searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: If thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.
And I cut off the three shepherds in one month; for my soul was weary of them, and their soul also loathed me.
And it came to pass, when the kingdom of Rehoboam was established, and he was strong, that he forsook the law of Jehovah, and all Israel with him.
And it came to pass in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had trespassed against Jehovah,
with twelve hundred chariots, and threescore thousand horsemen. And the people were without number that came with him out of Egypt: the Lubim, the Sukkiim, and the Ethiopians.
And he took the fortified cities which pertained to Judah, and came unto Jerusalem.
Now Shemaiah the prophet came to Rehoboam, and to the princes of Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said unto them, Thus saith Jehovah, Ye have forsaken me, therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak.
Then the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, Jehovah is righteous.
And when Jehovah saw that they humbled themselves, the word of Jehovah came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves: I will not destroy them; but I will grant them {Or, deliverance within a little while Or, few that shall escape}some deliverance, and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.
Nevertheless they shall be his servants, that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.
So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of Jehovah, and the treasures of the king's house: he took all away: he took away also the shields of gold which Solomon had made.
And king Rehoboam made in their stead shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the {Hebrew: runners.}guard, that kept the door of the king's house.
And it was so, that, as oft as the king entered into the house of Jehovah, the guard came and bare them, and brought them back into the guard-chamber.
And when he humbled himself, the wrath of Jehovah turned from him, so as not to destroy him altogether: and moreover in Judah there were good things found.
Righteous art thou, O Jehovah, when I contend with thee; yet would I {Hebrew: speak of judgements.}reason the cause with thee: wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they at ease that deal very treacherously?
The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of Jehovah, was taken in their pits;Of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the nations.
My God will cast them away, because they did not hearken unto him; and they shall be wanderers among the nations.
Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith Jehovah of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered; and I will turn my hand upon the little ones.
