For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.They are corrupt, they have done abominable works;There is none that doeth good.
Jehovah looked down from heaven upon the children of men,To see if there were any that did {Or, deal wisely}understand,That did seek after God.
They are all gone aside; they are together become filthy;There is none that doeth good, no, not one.
Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge,Who eat up my people as they eat bread,And call not upon Jehovah?
There were they in great fear;For God is in the generation of the righteous.
Ye put to shame the counsel of the poor, {Or, But}Because Jehovah is his refuge.
Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion!When Jehovah {Or, returned to}bringeth back the captivity of his people,Then shall Jacob rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.
A Psalm of David.Jehovah, who shall sojourn in thy {Hebrew: tent.}tabernacle?Who shall dwell in thy holy hill?
He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness,And speaketh truth in his heart;
{Or, He slandereth}He that slandereth not with his tongue,Nor doeth evil to his friend,Nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbor;
In {Or, his…he}whose eyes a reprobate is despised,But {Or, his…he}who honoreth them that fear Jehovah; {Or, He sweareth}He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not;
{Or, He putteth}He that putteth not out his money to interest,Nor taketh reward against the innocent.He that doeth these things shall never be moved.
Michtam of David.Preserve me, O God; for in thee do I take refuge.
O my soul, thou hast said unto Jehovah, Thou art {Or, the Lord}my Lord:I have no good beyond thee.
{Or, Unto}As for the saints that are in the earth, {Or, And the excellent…delight; Their &c.}They are the excellent in whom is all my delight.
Their sorrows shall be multiplied that give gifts for another god:Their drink-offerings of blood will I not offer,Nor take their names upon my lips.
Jehovah is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup:Thou maintainest my lot.
The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places;Yea, I have a goodly heritage.
I will bless Jehovah, who hath given me counsel;Yea, my {Hebrew: reins.}heart instructeth me in the night seasons.
I have set Jehovah always before me:Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth;My flesh also shall dwell {Or, confidently}in safety.
For thou wilt not leave my soul to Sheol;Neither wilt thou suffer thy {Or, godly Or, beloved Another reading is, holy ones.}holy one to see {Or, the pit}corruption.
Thou wilt show me the path of life:In thy presence is fulness of joy;In thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

For David saith concerning him, {Psalm 16:8 ff.}I beheld the Lord always before my face;For he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced;Moreover my flesh also shall {Or, tabernacle}dwell in hope:
Because thou wilt not leave my soul unto Hades,Neither wilt thou give thy Holy One to see corruption.
Thou madest known unto me the ways of life;Thou shalt make me full of gladness {Or, in thy presence}with thy countenance.
Brethren, I may say unto you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us unto this day.
Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins {Or, one should sit}he would set one upon his throne;
he foreseeing this spake of the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he left unto Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.
For David saith concerning him, {Psalm 16:8 ff.}I beheld the Lord always before my face;For he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins {Or, one should sit}he would set one upon his throne;
he foreseeing this spake of the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he left unto Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.
Because he saith also in another psalm, {Psalm 16:10}Thou wilt not give thy Holy One to see corruption.
For David, after he had {Or, served his own generation by the counsel of God, fell asleep Or, served his own generation, fell asleep by the counsel of God}in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:
but he whom God raised up saw no corruption.
Why do the nations {Or, tumultuously assemble}rage,And the peoples meditate a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves,And the rulers take counsel together,Against Jehovah, and against his anointed, saying,
Let us break their bonds asunder,And cast away their cords from us.
He that sitteth in the heavens will laugh:The Lord will have them in derision.
Then will he speak unto them in his wrath,And {Or, trouble}vex them in his sore displeasure:
Yet I have set my kingUpon my holy hill of Zion.
I will tell of the decree:Jehovah said unto me, Thou art my son;This day have I begotten thee.
Ask of me, and I will give thee the nations for thine inheritance,And the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron;Thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
Now therefore be wise, O ye kings:Be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
Serve Jehovah with fear,And rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the son, lest he be angry, and ye perish in the way,For his wrath {Or, may}will soon be kindled. {Or, Happy}Blessed are all they that take refuge in him.
For the Chief Musician; set to the Gittith. A Psalm of David.O Jehovah, our Lord,How excellent is thy name in all the earth,Who hast set thy glory {Or, above}upon the heavens!
Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou established strength,Because of thine adversaries,That thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers,The moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
What is man, that thou art mindful of him?And the son of man, that thou visitest him?
For thou hast made him but little lower than {Or, the angels Hebrew: Elohim.}God,And crownest him with glory and honor.
Thou makest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands;Thou hast put all things under his feet:
All sheep and oxen,Yea, and the beasts of the field,
The birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,Whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

A Psalm of David.Jehovah is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;He leadeth me beside {Hebrew: waters of rest.}still waters.
He restoreth my soul:He guideth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of {Or, deep darkness (and so elsewhere)}the shadow of death,I will fear no evil; for thou art with me;Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:Thou hast anointed my head with oil;My cup runneth over.
{Or, Only}Surely goodness and lovingkindness shall follow me all the days of my life;And I shall dwell in the house of Jehovah {Hebrew: for length of days.}for ever.
A Prayer of David.Hear the right, O Jehovah, attend unto my cry;Give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips.
Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; {Or, Thine eyes behold with equity}Let thine eyes look upon equity.
Thou hast proved my heart; thou hast visited me in the night;Thou hast tried me, and {Or, findest no evil purpose in me; My mouth &c.}findest nothing;I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.
As for the works of men, by the word of thy lipsI have kept me from the ways of the violent.
My steps have held fast to thy paths,My feet have not slipped.
I have called upon thee, for thou wilt answer me, O God:Incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.
Show thy marvellous lovingkindness,O thou that savest {Or, them that take refuge…rise up against thy right hand}by thy right hand them that take refuge in theeFrom those that rise up against them.
Keep me as the apple of the eye;Hide me under the shadow of thy wings,
From the wicked that oppress me,My deadly enemies, that compass me about.
{Or, They have shut up their heart}They are inclosed in their own fat:With their mouth they speak proudly.
They have now compassed us in our steps;They set their eyes to cast us down to the earth.
He is like a lion that is greedy of his prey,And as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.
Arise, O Jehovah, {Or, Forestall}Confront him, cast him down:Deliver my soul from {Or, the wicked, who is thy sword}the wicked by thy sword;
From {Or, men who are thy hand}men by thy hand, O Jehovah,From men {Or, whose portion in life is of the world}of the world, whose portion is in this life,And whose belly thou fillest with thy treasure:They are satisfied with children,And leave the rest of their substance to their babes.
As for me, {Or, let me}I shall behold thy face in righteousness; {Or, let me}I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with beholding thy form.
A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.Jehovah, how are mine adversaries increased!Many are they that rise up against me.

And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, {Isaiah 8:17 f.}Behold, I and the children whom God hath given me.
For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that hath been in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
