Why do the nations {Or, tumultuously assemble}rage,
And the peoples meditate a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves,
And the rulers take counsel together,
Against Jehovah, and against his anointed, saying,
Let us break their bonds asunder,
And cast away their cords from us.
He that sitteth in the heavens will laugh:
The Lord will have them in derision.
Then will he speak unto them in his wrath,
And {Or, trouble}vex them in his sore displeasure:
Yet I have set my king
Upon my holy hill of Zion.
I will tell of the decree:
Jehovah said unto me, Thou art my son;
This day have I begotten thee.
Ask of me, and I will give thee the nations for thine inheritance,
And the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron;
Thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
Now therefore be wise, O ye kings:
Be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
Serve Jehovah with fear,
And rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the son, lest he be angry, and ye perish in the way,
For his wrath {Or, may}will soon be kindled.
{Or, Happy}Blessed are all they that take refuge in him.
Querverweise zu Psalm 2,11 Ps 2,11
A God very terrible in the council of the holy ones,And to be feared above all them that are round about him?
Oh come, let us sing unto Jehovah;Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving;Let us make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.
For Jehovah is a great God,And a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the deep places of the earth;The {Or, strength}heights of the mountains are his also.
The sea is his, and he made it;And his hands formed the dry land.
Oh come, let us worship and bow down;Let us kneel before Jehovah our Maker:
For he is our God,And we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.To-day, {Or, if ye will hear his voice, Harden &c.}oh that ye would hear his voice!
Harden not your heart, as at {That is, strife.}Meribah,As in the day of {That is, temptation.}Massah in the wilderness;
Wherefore, receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us have {Or, thankfulness Compare 1 Corinthians 10:30.}grace, whereby we may offer service well-pleasing to God with {Or, godly fear Compare chapter 5:7.}reverence and awe:
Jehovah reigneth; let the earth rejoice;Let the multitude of isles be glad.
for our God is a consuming fire.
Jehovah reigneth; let the peoples tremble:He {Or, is enthroned}sitteth above the cherubim; let the earth be moved.
My flesh trembleth for fear of thee;And I am afraid of thy judgments.
So then, my beloved, even as ye have always obeyed, not {Some ancient authorities omit as.}as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
Let us fear therefore, lest haply, a promise being left of entering into his rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it.
For indeed we have had {Or, a gospel}good tidings preached unto us, even as also they: but the word of hearing did not profit them, because {Many ancient authorities read they were.}it was not united by faith with them that heard.
See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not when they refused him that warned them on earth, much more shall not we escape who turn away from him {Or, that is from heaven}that warneth from heaven:
