A Psalm of David.
Jehovah is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;
He leadeth me beside {Hebrew: waters of rest.}still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He guideth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of {Or, deep darkness (and so elsewhere)}the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil; for thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
Thou hast anointed my head with oil;
My cup runneth over.
{Or, Only}Surely goodness and lovingkindness shall follow me all the days of my life;
And I shall dwell in the house of Jehovah {Hebrew: for length of days.}for ever.
Querverweise zu Psalm 23,6 Ps 23,6
Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing;Thou hast loosed my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
Thou wilt show me the path of life:In thy presence is fulness of joy;In thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
He asked life of thee, thou gavest it him,Even length of days for ever and ever.
To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent.O Jehovah my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.
As for me, {Or, let me}I shall behold thy face in righteousness; {Or, let me}I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with beholding thy form.
How precious is thy lovingkindness, O God!And the children of men take refuge under the shadow of thy wings.
They shall be {Hebrew: watered.}abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house;And thou wilt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.
For with thee is the fountain of life:In thy light shall we see light.
Oh continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee,And thy righteousness to the upright in heart.
Thou wilt guide me with thy counsel,And afterward receive me {Or, with}to glory.
Whom have I in heaven but thee?And there is none upon earth that I desire {Or, with thee}besides thee.
My flesh and my heart faileth;But God is the {Hebrew: rock.}strength of my heart and my portion for ever.
But the lovingkindness of Jehovah is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him,And his righteousness unto children's children;
For we know that if the earthly house of our {Or, bodily frame Compare Wisd. 9:15}tabernacle be dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens.
who delivered us out of so great a death, and will deliver: on whom we have {Some ancient authorities read set our hope; and still will he deliver us.}set our hope that he will also still deliver us;
But I am in a strait betwixt the two, having the desire to depart and be with Christ; for it is very far better:
The Lord will deliver me from every evil work, and will save me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be the glory {Greek: unto the ages of the ages.}for ever and ever. Amen.
