By faithG4102 IsaacG2464 blessedG2127 JacobG2384 andG2532 EsauG2269 concerningG4012 things to comeG3195.
By faithG4102 JacobG2384, when he was a dyingG599, blessedG2127 bothG1538 the sonsG5207 of JosephG2501; andG2532 worshippedG4352, leaning uponG1909 the topG206 of hisG846 staffG4464.
By faithG4102 JosephG2501, when he diedG5053, made mentionG3421 ofG4012 the departingG1841 of the childrenG5207 of IsraelG2474; andG2532 gave commandmentG1781 concerningG4012 hisG846 bonesG3747. {made…: or, remembered}
Then againH3254 AbrahamH85 tookH3947 a wifeH802, and her nameH8034 was KeturahH6989.
And she bareH3205 him ZimranH2175, and JokshanH3370, and MedanH4091, and MidianH4080, and IshbakH3435, and ShuahH7744.
And JokshanH3370 begatH3205 ShebaH7614, and DedanH1719. And the sonsH1121 of DedanH1719 were AsshurimH805, and LetushimH3912, and LeummimH3817.
And the sonsH1121 of MidianH4080; EphahH5891, and EpherH6081, and HanochH2585, and AbidaH28, and EldaahH420. All these were the childrenH1121 of KeturahH6989.
And AbrahamH85 gaveH5414 all that he had unto IsaacH3327.
But unto the sonsH1121 of the concubinesH6370, which AbrahamH85 had, AbrahamH85 gaveH5414 giftsH4979, and sent them awayH7971 from IsaacH3327 his sonH1121, while he yet livedH2416, eastwardH6924, unto the eastH6924 countryH776.
And these are the daysH3117 of the yearsH8141 of Abraham'sH85 lifeH2416 which he livedH2425, an hundredH3967+H8141 threescore and fifteenH7657+H8141+H2568 yearsH8141.
Then AbrahamH85 gave up the ghostH1478, and diedH4191 in a goodH2896 old ageH7872, an old manH2205, and fullH7649 of years; and was gatheredH622 to his peopleH5971.
And his sonsH1121 IsaacH3327 and IshmaelH3458 buriedH6912 him in the caveH4631 of MachpelahH4375, in the fieldH7704 of EphronH6085 the sonH1121 of ZoharH6714 the HittiteH2850, which is beforeH6440 MamreH4471;
The fieldH7704 which AbrahamH85 purchasedH7069 of the sonsH1121 of HethH2845: there was AbrahamH85 buriedH6912, and SarahH8283 his wifeH802.
And it came to pass afterH310 the deathH4194 of AbrahamH85, that GodH430 blessedH1288 his sonH1121 IsaacH3327; and IsaacH3327 dweltH3427 byH5973 the well LahairoiH883.
Now these are the generationsH8435 of IshmaelH3458, Abraham'sH85 sonH1121, whom HagarH1904 the EgyptianH4713, Sarah'sH8283 handmaidH8198, bareH3205 unto AbrahamH85:
And these are the namesH8034 of the sonsH1121 of IshmaelH3458, by their namesH8034, according to their generationsH8435: the firstbornH1060 of IshmaelH3458, NebajothH5032; and KedarH6938, and AdbeelH110, and MibsamH4017,
And MishmaH4927, and DumahH1746, and MassaH4854,
HadarH2316, and TemaH8485, JeturH3195, NaphishH5305, and KedemahH6929: {Hadar: or, Hadad}
These are the sonsH1121 of IshmaelH3458, and these are their namesH8034, by their townsH2691, and by their castlesH2918; twelveH8147+H6240 princesH5387 according to their nationsH523.
And these are the yearsH8141 of the lifeH2416 of IshmaelH3458, an hundredH3967+H8141 and thirtyH7970+H8141 and sevenH7651 yearsH8141: and he gave up the ghostH1478 and diedH4191; and was gatheredH622 unto his peopleH5971.
And they dweltH7931 from HavilahH2341 unto ShurH7793, that is beforeH6440 EgyptH4714, as thou goestH935 toward AssyriaH804: and he diedH5307 in the presenceH6440 of all his brethrenH251. {died: Heb. fell}
And these are the generationsH8435 of IsaacH3327, Abraham'sH85 sonH1121: AbrahamH85 begatH3205 IsaacH3327:
And IsaacH3327 was fortyH705 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he tookH3947 RebekahH7259 to wifeH802, the daughterH1323 of BethuelH1328 the SyrianH761 of PadanaramH6307, the sisterH269 to LabanH3837 the SyrianH761.
And IsaacH3327 intreatedH6279 the LORDH3068 forH5227 his wifeH802, because she was barrenH6135: and the LORDH3068 was intreatedH6279 of him, and RebekahH7259 his wifeH802 conceivedH2029.
And the childrenH1121 struggled togetherH7533 within herH7130; and she saidH559, If it be so, why am I thusH2088? And she wentH3212 to enquireH1875 of the LORDH3068.
And the LORDH3068 saidH559 unto her, TwoH8147 nationsH1471 are in thy wombH990, and two mannerH8147 of peopleH3816 shall be separatedH6504 from thy bowelsH4578; and the one peopleH3816 shall be strongerH553 than the other peopleH3816; and the elderH7227 shall serveH5647 the youngerH6810.
And when her daysH3117 to be deliveredH3205 were fulfilledH4390, behold, there were twinsH8380 in her wombH990.
And the firstH7223 came outH3318 redH132, all over like an hairyH8181 garmentH155; and they calledH7121 his nameH8034 EsauH6215.
And afterH310 that cameH3318 his brotherH251 outH3318, and his handH3027 took holdH270 on Esau'sH6215 heelH6119; and his nameH8034 was calledH7121 JacobH3290: and IsaacH3327 was threescoreH8346 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when she bareH3205 them.
And the boysH5288 grewH1431: and EsauH6215 was a cunningH3045 hunterH6718, a manH376 of the fieldH7704; and JacobH3290 was a plainH8535 manH376, dwellingH3427 in tentsH168.
And IsaacH3327 lovedH157 EsauH6215, because he did eatH6310 of his venisonH6718: but RebekahH7259 lovedH157 JacobH3290. {he…: Heb. venison was in his mouth}
And JacobH3290 sodH2102 pottageH5138: and EsauH6215 cameH935 from the fieldH7704, and he was faintH5889:
And EsauH6215 saidH559 to JacobH3290, FeedH3938 me, I pray thee, withH4480 that sameH122 redH122 pottage; for I am faintH5889: therefore was his nameH8034 calledH7121 EdomH123. {with…: Heb. with that red, with that red pottage} {Edom: that is Red}
And JacobH3290 saidH559, SellH4376 me this dayH3117 thy birthrightH1062.
And EsauH6215 saidH559, Behold, I am at the pointH1980 to dieH4191: and what profit shall this birthrightH1062 do to me? {at…: Heb. going to die}
And JacobH3290 saidH559, SwearH7650 to me this dayH3117; and he swareH7650 unto him: and he soldH4376 his birthrightH1062 unto JacobH3290.
Then JacobH3290 gaveH5414 EsauH6215 breadH3899 and pottageH5138 of lentilesH5742; and he did eatH398 and drinkH8354, and rose upH6965, and went his wayH3212: thus EsauH6215 despisedH959 his birthrightH1062.
And there was a famineH7458 in the landH776, besideH905 the firstH7223 famineH7458 that was in the daysH3117 of AbrahamH85. And IsaacH3327 wentH3212 unto AbimelechH40 kingH4428 of the PhilistinesH6430 unto GerarH1642.
And the LORDH3068 appearedH7200 unto him, and saidH559, Go not downH3381 into EgyptH4714; dwellH7931 in the landH776 which I shall tellH559 thee of:
SojournH1481 in this landH776, and I will be with thee, and will blessH1288 thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seedH2233, I will giveH5414 all theseH411 countriesH776, and I will performH6965 the oathH7621 which I swareH7650 unto AbrahamH85 thy fatherH1;
And I will makeH7235 thy seedH2233 to multiplyH7235 as the starsH3556 of heavenH8064, and will giveH5414 unto thy seedH2233 all theseH411 countriesH776; and in thy seedH2233 shall all the nationsH1471 of the earthH776 be blessedH1288;
BecauseH6118 that AbrahamH85 obeyedH8085 my voiceH6963, and keptH8104 my chargeH4931, my commandmentsH4687, my statutesH2708, and my lawsH8451.
And IsaacH3327 dweltH3427 in GerarH1642:
And the menH582 of the placeH4725 askedH7592 him of his wifeH802; and he saidH559, She is my sisterH269: for he fearedH3372 to sayH559, She is my wifeH802; lest, said he, the menH582 of the placeH4725 should killH2026 me for RebekahH7259; because she was fairH2896 to look uponH4758.
And it came to pass, when he had been there a longH748 timeH3117, that AbimelechH40 kingH4428 of the PhilistinesH6430 looked outH8259 atH1157 a windowH2474, and sawH7200, and, behold, IsaacH3327 was sportingH6711 with RebekahH7259 his wifeH802.
And AbimelechH40 calledH7121 IsaacH3327, and saidH559, Behold, of a suretyH389 she is thy wifeH802: and how saidstH559 thou, She is my sisterH269? And IsaacH3327 saidH559 unto him, Because I saidH559, Lest I dieH4191 for her.
And AbimelechH40 saidH559, What is this thou hast doneH6213 unto us? oneH259 of the peopleH5971 might lightlyH4592 have lienH7901 with thy wifeH802, and thou shouldest have broughtH935 guiltinessH817 upon us.
And AbimelechH40 chargedH6680 all his peopleH5971, sayingH559, He that touchethH5060 this manH376 or his wifeH802 shall surelyH4191 be put to deathH4191.
Then IsaacH3327 sowedH2232 in that landH776, and receivedH4672 in the same yearH8141 an hundredfoldH3967+H8180: and the LORDH3068 blessedH1288 him. {received: Heb. found}
And the manH376 waxed greatH1431, and wentH3212 forwardH1980, and grewH1432 until he becameH1431 veryH3966 greatH1431: {went…: Heb. went going}
For he had possessionH4735 of flocksH6629, and possessionH4735 of herdsH1241, and great storeH7227 of servantsH5657: and the PhilistinesH6430 enviedH7065 him. {servants: or, husbandry}
For all the wellsH875 which his father'sH1 servantsH5650 had diggedH2658 in the daysH3117 of AbrahamH85 his fatherH1, the PhilistinesH6430 had stoppedH5640 them, and filledH4390 them with earthH6083.
And AbimelechH40 saidH559 unto IsaacH3327, GoH3212 from us; for thou art muchH3966 mightierH6105 than we.
And IsaacH3327 departedH3212 thence, and pitched his tentH2583 in the valleyH5158 of GerarH1642, and dweltH3427 thereH8033.
And IsaacH3327 diggedH2658 againH7725 the wellsH875 of waterH4325, which they had diggedH2658 in the daysH3117 of AbrahamH85 his fatherH1; for the PhilistinesH6430 had stoppedH5640 them afterH310 the deathH4194 of AbrahamH85: and he calledH7121 their namesH8034 after the namesH8034 by whichH834 his fatherH1 had calledH7121 them.
And Isaac'sH3327 servantsH5650 diggedH2658 in the valleyH5158, and foundH4672 there a wellH875 of springingH2416 waterH4325. {springing: Heb. living}
And the herdmenH7462 of GerarH1642 did striveH7378 with Isaac'sH3327 herdmenH7462, sayingH559, The waterH4325 is ours: and he calledH7121 the nameH8034 of the wellH875 EsekH6230; because they stroveH6229 with him. {Esek: that is, Contention}
And they diggedH2658 anotherH312 wellH875, and stroveH7378 for that also: and he calledH7121 the name of itH8034 SitnahH7856. {Sitnah: that is, Hatred}
And he removedH6275 from thence, and diggedH2658 anotherH312 wellH875; and for that they stroveH7378 not: and he calledH7121 the name of itH8034 RehobothH7344; and he saidH559, For nowH6258 the LORDH3068 hath made roomH7337 for us, and we shall be fruitfulH6509 in the landH776. {Rehoboth: that is Room}
And he went upH5927 from thence to BeershebaH884.
And the LORDH3068 appearedH7200 unto him the same nightH3915, and saidH559, I am the GodH430 of AbrahamH85 thy fatherH1: fearH3372 not, for I am withH854 thee, and will blessH1288 thee, and multiplyH7235 thy seedH2233 for my servantH5650 Abraham'sH85 sake.
And he buildedH1129 an altarH4196 there, and calledH7121 upon the nameH8034 of the LORDH3068, and pitchedH5186 his tentH168 there: and there Isaac'sH3327 servantsH5650 diggedH3738 a wellH875.
Then AbimelechH40 wentH1980 to him from GerarH1642, and AhuzzathH276 one of his friendsH4828, and PhicholH6369 the chief captainH8269 of his armyH6635.
And IsaacH3327 saidH559 unto them, WhereforeH4069 comeH935 ye to me, seeing ye hateH8130 me, and have sent me awayH7971 from you?
And they saidH559, We sawH7200 certainlyH7200 that the LORDH3068 was with thee: and we saidH559, Let there be now an oathH423 betwixtH996 us, even betwixtH996 us and thee, and let us makeH3772 a covenantH1285 with thee; {We saw…: Heb. Seeing we saw}
That thou wilt doH6213 us no hurtH7451, as we have not touchedH5060 thee, and as we have doneH6213 unto thee nothing butH7535 goodH2896, and have sent thee awayH7971 in peaceH7965: thou art nowH6258 the blessedH1288 of the LORDH3068. {That…: Heb. If thou shalt}
And he madeH6213 them a feastH4960, and they did eatH398 and drinkH8354.
And they rose up betimesH7925 in the morningH1242, and swareH7650 oneH376 to anotherH251: and IsaacH3327 sent them awayH7971, and they departedH3212 from him in peaceH7965.
And it came to pass the same dayH3117, that Isaac'sH3327 servantsH5650 cameH935, and toldH5046 him concerningH182 the wellH875 which they had diggedH2658, and saidH559 unto him, We have foundH4672 waterH4325.
And he calledH7121 it ShebahH7656: therefore the nameH8034 of the cityH5892 is BeershebaH884 unto this dayH3117. {Shebah: That is, an oath} {Beersheba: that is, the well of the oath}
And EsauH6215 was fortyH705 yearsH8141 oldH1121 when he tookH3947 to wifeH802 JudithH3067 the daughterH1323 of BeeriH882 the HittiteH2850, and BashemathH1315 the daughterH1323 of ElonH356 the HittiteH2850:
Which were a griefH4786 of mindH7307 unto IsaacH3327 and to RebekahH7259. {a grief…: Heb. bitterness of spirit}
And it came to passH1961, that when IsaacH3327 was oldH2204, and his eyesH5869 were dimH3543, so that he could not seeH7200, he calledH7121 EsauH6215 his eldestH1419 sonH1121, and saidH559 unto him, My sonH1121: and he saidH559 unto him, Behold, here am I.
And he saidH559, Behold now, I am oldH2204, I knowH3045 not the dayH3117 of my deathH4194:
Now therefore takeH5375, I pray thee, thy weaponsH3627, thy quiverH8522 and thy bowH7198, and go outH3318 to the fieldH7704, and takeH6679 me some venisonH6718+H6720; {take: Heb. hunt}
And makeH6213 me savoury meatH4303, such asH834 I loveH157, and bringH935 it to me, that I may eatH398; that my soulH5315 may blessH1288 thee beforeH2962 I dieH4191.
And RebekahH7259 heardH8085 when IsaacH3327 spakeH1696 to EsauH6215 his sonH1121. And EsauH6215 wentH3212 to the fieldH7704 to huntH6679 for venisonH6718, and to bringH935 it.
And RebekahH7259 spakeH559 unto JacobH3290 her sonH1121, sayingH559, Behold, I heardH8085 thy fatherH1 speakH1696 unto EsauH6215 thy brotherH251, sayingH559,
BringH935 me venisonH6718, and makeH6213 me savoury meatH4303, that I may eatH398, and blessH1288 thee beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 beforeH6440 my deathH4194.
Now therefore, my sonH1121, obeyH8085 my voiceH6963 according to that whichH834 I commandH6680 thee.
GoH3212 now to the flockH6629, and fetchH3947 me from thence twoH8147 goodH2896 kidsH1423 of the goatsH5795; and I will makeH6213 them savoury meatH4303 for thy fatherH1, such as he lovethH157:
And thou shalt bringH935 it to thy fatherH1, that he may eatH398, and thatH834 he may blessH1288 thee beforeH6440 his deathH4194.
And JacobH3290 saidH559 to RebekahH7259 his motherH517, Behold, EsauH6215 my brotherH251 is a hairyH8163 manH376, and I am a smoothH2509 manH376:
My fatherH1 peradventure will feelH4959 me, and I shall seemH5869 to him as a deceiverH8591; and I shall bringH935 a curseH7045 upon me, and not a blessingH1293.
And his motherH517 saidH559 unto him, Upon me be thy curseH7045, my sonH1121: only obeyH8085 my voiceH6963, and goH3212 fetchH3947 me them.
And he wentH3212, and fetchedH3947, and broughtH935 them to his motherH517: and his motherH517 madeH6213 savoury meatH4303, such as his fatherH1 lovedH157.
And RebekahH7259 tookH3947 goodlyH2532 raimentH899 of her eldestH1419 sonH1121 EsauH6215, which were with her in the houseH1004, and put them uponH3847 JacobH3290 her youngerH6996 sonH1121: {goodly: Heb. desirable}
And she putH3847 the skinsH5785 of the kidsH1423 of the goatsH5795 upon his handsH3027, and upon the smoothH2513 of his neckH6677:
And she gaveH5414 the savoury meatH4303 and the breadH3899, which she had preparedH6213, into the handH3027 of her sonH1121 JacobH3290.
And he cameH935 unto his fatherH1, and saidH559, My fatherH1: and he saidH559, Here am I; who art thou, my sonH1121?
And JacobH3290 saidH559 unto his fatherH1, I am EsauH6215 thy firstbornH1060; I have doneH6213 according as thou badestH1696 me: ariseH6965, I pray thee, sitH3427 and eatH398 of my venisonH6718, that thy soulH5315 may blessH1288 me.
And IsaacH3327 saidH559 unto his sonH1121, How is it that thou hast foundH4672 it so quicklyH4116, my sonH1121? And he saidH559, Because the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 broughtH7136 it to meH6440. {to me: Heb. before me}
And IsaacH3327 saidH559 unto JacobH3290, Come nearH5066, I pray thee, that I may feelH4184 thee, my sonH1121, whether thou be my veryH2088 sonH1121 EsauH6215 or not.
And JacobH3290 went nearH5066 unto IsaacH3327 his fatherH1; and he feltH4959 him, and saidH559, The voiceH6963 is Jacob'sH3290 voiceH6963, but the handsH3027 are the handsH3027 of EsauH6215.
And he discernedH5234 him not, because his handsH3027 were hairyH8163, as his brotherH251 Esau'sH6215 handsH3027: so he blessedH1288 him.
And he saidH559, Art thou my very sonH1121 EsauH6215? And he saidH559, I am.
And he saidH559, Bring it nearH5066 to me, and I will eatH398 of my son'sH1121 venisonH6718, that my soulH5315 may blessH1288 thee. And he brought it nearH5066 to him, and he did eatH398: and he broughtH935 him wineH3196, and he drankH8354.
And his fatherH1 IsaacH3327 saidH559 unto him, Come nearH5066 now, and kissH5401 me, my sonH1121.
And he came nearH5066, and kissedH5401 him: and he smelledH7306 the smellH7381 of his raimentH899, and blessedH1288 him, and saidH559, SeeH7200, the smellH7381 of my sonH1121 is as the smellH7381 of a fieldH7704 which the LORDH3068 hath blessedH1288:
Therefore GodH430 giveH5414 thee of the dewH2919 of heavenH8064, and the fatnessH4924 of the earthH776, and plentyH7230 of cornH1715 and wineH8492:
Let peopleH5971 serveH5647 thee, and nationsH3816 bow downH7812 to thee: beH1933 lordH1376 over thy brethrenH251, and let thy mother'sH517 sonsH1121 bow downH7812 to thee: cursedH779 be every one that cursethH779 thee, and blessedH1288 be he that blessethH1288 thee.
And it came to pass, as soon as IsaacH3327 had made an endH3615 of blessingH1288 JacobH3290, and JacobH3290 was yetH389 scarceH3318 gone outH3318 from the presenceH6440 of IsaacH3327 his fatherH1, that EsauH6215 his brotherH251 came inH935 from his huntingH6718.
And he also had madeH6213 savoury meatH4303, and brought itH935 unto his fatherH1, and saidH559 unto his fatherH1, Let my fatherH1 ariseH6965, and eatH398 of his son'sH1121 venisonH6718, that thy soulH5315 may blessH1288 me.
And IsaacH3327 his fatherH1 saidH559 unto him, Who art thou? And he saidH559, I am thy sonH1121, thy firstbornH1060 EsauH6215.
And IsaacH3327 trembledH2729 veryH1419 exceedinglyH3966+H2731, and saidH559, Who? whereH645 is he that hath takenH6679 venisonH6718, and broughtH935 it me, and I have eatenH398 of all before thou camestH935, and have blessedH1288 him? yea, and he shall be blessedH1288. {trembled…: Heb. trembled with a great trembling greatly} {taken: Heb. hunted}
And when EsauH6215 heardH8085 the wordsH1697 of his fatherH1, he criedH6817 with a greatH1419 and exceedingH3966 bitterH4751 cryH6818, and saidH559 unto his fatherH1, BlessH1288 me, even me also, O my fatherH1.
And he saidH559, Thy brotherH251 cameH935 with subtiltyH4820, and hath taken awayH3947 thy blessingH1293.
And he saidH559, Is not he rightlyH3588 namedH7121+H8034 JacobH3290? for he hath supplanted meH6117 theseH2088 two timesH6471: he took awayH3947 my birthrightH1062; and, behold, now he hath taken awayH3947 my blessingH1293. And he saidH559, Hast thou not reservedH680 a blessingH1293 for me? {Jacob: that is, A supplanter}
And IsaacH3327 answeredH6030 and saidH559 unto EsauH6215, Behold, I have madeH7760 him thy lordH1376, and all his brethrenH251 have I givenH5414 to him for servantsH5650; and with cornH1715 and wineH8492 have I sustainedH5564 him: and what shall I doH6213 nowH645 unto thee, my sonH1121? {sustained: or, supported}
And EsauH6215 saidH559 unto his fatherH1, Hast thou but oneH259 blessingH1293, my fatherH1? blessH1288 me, even me also, O my fatherH1. And EsauH6215 lifted upH5375 his voiceH6963, and weptH1058.
And IsaacH3327 his fatherH1 answeredH6030 and saidH559 unto him, Behold, thy dwellingH4186 shall be the fatnessH4924 of the earthH776, and of the dewH2919 of heavenH8064 from aboveH5920; {the fatness: or, of the fatness}
And by thy swordH2719 shalt thou liveH2421, and shalt serveH5647 thy brotherH251; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominionH7300, that thou shalt breakH6561 his yokeH5923 from off thy neckH6677.
And EsauH6215 hatedH7852 JacobH3290 becauseH5921 of the blessingH1293 wherewithH834 his fatherH1 blessed himH1288: and EsauH6215 saidH559 in his heartH3820, The daysH3117 of mourningH60 for my fatherH1 are at handH7126; then will I slayH2026 my brotherH251 JacobH3290.
And these wordsH1697 of EsauH6215 her elderH1419 sonH1121 were toldH5046 to RebekahH7259: and she sentH7971 and calledH7121 JacobH3290 her youngerH6996 sonH1121, and saidH559 unto him, Behold, thy brotherH251 EsauH6215, as touching thee, doth comfortH5162 himself, purposing to killH2026 thee.
Now therefore, my sonH1121, obeyH8085 my voiceH6963; and ariseH6965, fleeH1272 thou to LabanH3837 my brotherH251 to HaranH2771;
And tarryH3427 with him a fewH259 daysH3117, untilH834 thy brother'sH251 furyH2534 turn awayH7725;
Until thy brother'sH251 angerH639 turn awayH7725 from thee, and he forgetH7911 that which thou hast doneH6213 to him: then I will sendH7971, and fetchH3947 thee from thence: whyH4100 should I be deprivedH7921 also of you bothH8147 in oneH259 dayH3117?
And RebekahH7259 saidH559 to IsaacH3327, I am wearyH6973 of my lifeH2416 becauseH6440 of the daughtersH1323 of HethH2845: if JacobH3290 takeH3947 a wifeH802 of the daughtersH1323 of HethH2845, such as these which are of the daughtersH1323 of the landH776, what goodH4100 shall my lifeH2416 do me?
And he saidH559, SwearH7650 unto me. And he swareH7650 unto him. And IsraelH3478 bowedH7812 himself upon the bed'sH4296 headH7218.
And one toldH5046 JacobH3290, and saidH559, Behold, thy sonH1121 JosephH3130 comethH935 unto thee: and IsraelH3478 strengthenedH2388 himself, and satH3427 upon the bedH4296.
And JacobH3290 wentH1980 on his wayH1870, and the angelsH4397 of GodH430 metH6293 him.
And when JacobH3290 saw themH7200, he saidH559, This is God'sH430 hostH4264: and he calledH7121 the nameH8034 of that placeH4725 MahanaimH4266. {Mahanaim: that is, Two hosts, or, camps}
And JacobH3290 sentH7971 messengersH4397 before himH6440 to EsauH6215 his brotherH251 unto the landH776 of SeirH8165, the countryH7704 of EdomH123. {country: Heb. field}
And he commandedH6680 them, sayingH559, Thus shall ye speakH559 unto my lordH113 EsauH6215; Thy servantH5650 JacobH3290 saithH559 thus, I have sojournedH1481 with LabanH3837, and stayed thereH309 until now:
And I have oxenH7794, and assesH2543, flocksH6629, and menservantsH5650, and womenservantsH8198: and I have sentH7971 to tellH5046 my lordH113, that I may findH4672 graceH2580 in thy sightH5869.
And the messengersH4397 returnedH7725 to JacobH3290, sayingH559, We cameH935 to thy brotherH251 EsauH6215, and also he comethH1980 to meet theeH7125, and four hundredH3967 menH376 with him.
Then JacobH3290 was greatlyH3966 afraidH3372 and distressedH3334: and he dividedH2673 the peopleH5971 that was with him, and the flocksH6629, and herdsH1241, and the camelsH1581, into twoH8147 bandsH4264;
And saidH559, If EsauH6215 comeH935 to the oneH259 companyH4264, and smite itH5221, then the other companyH4264 which is leftH7604 shall escapeH6413.
And JacobH3290 saidH559, O GodH430 of my fatherH1 AbrahamH85, and GodH430 of my fatherH1 IsaacH3327, the LORDH3068 which saidstH559 unto me, ReturnH7725 unto thy countryH776, and to thy kindredH4138, and I will deal wellH3190 with thee:
I am not worthy of the leastH6994 of all the merciesH2617, and of all the truthH571, which thou hast shewedH6213 unto thy servantH5650; for with my staffH4731 I passed overH5674 this JordanH3383; and now I am become twoH8147 bandsH4264. {I am not…: Heb. I am less than all}
Deliver meH5337, I pray thee, from the handH3027 of my brotherH251, from the handH3027 of EsauH6215: for I fearH3373 him, lest he will comeH935 and smite meH5221, and the motherH517 withH5921 the childrenH1121. {with: Heb. upon}
And thou saidstH559, I will surelyH3190 do thee goodH3190, and makeH7760 thy seedH2233 as the sandH2344 of the seaH3220, which cannot be numberedH5608 for multitudeH7230.
And he lodgedH3885 there that same nightH3915; and tookH3947 of that which cameH935 to his handH3027 a presentH4503 for EsauH6215 his brotherH251;
Two hundredH3967 she goatsH5795, and twentyH6242 he goatsH8495, two hundredH3967 ewesH7353, and twentyH6242 ramsH352,
ThirtyH7970 milchH3243 camelsH1581 with their coltsH1121, fortyH705 kineH6510, and tenH6235 bullsH6499, twentyH6242 she assesH860, and tenH6235 foalsH5895.
And he deliveredH5414 them into the handH3027 of his servantsH5650, every droveH5739 by themselves; and saidH559 unto his servantsH5650, Pass overH5674 before meH6440, and putH7760 a spaceH7305 betwixtH996 droveH5739 andH996 droveH5739.
And he commandedH6680 the foremostH7223, sayingH559, When EsauH6215 my brotherH251 meeteth theeH6298, and asketh theeH7592, sayingH559, Whose art thou? and whither goestH3212 thou? and whose are these beforeH6440 thee?
Then thou shalt sayH559, They be thy servantH5650 Jacob'sH3290; it is a presentH4503 sentH7971 unto my lordH113 EsauH6215: and, behold, also he is behind usH310.
And soH1571 commanded heH6680 the secondH8145, and the thirdH7992, and all that followedH1980+H310 the drovesH5739, sayingH559, On this mannerH1697 shall ye speakH1696 unto EsauH6215, when ye findH4672 him.
And say yeH559 moreoverH1571, Behold, thy servantH5650 JacobH3290 is behind usH310. For he saidH559, I will appeaseH3722 himH6440 with the presentH4503 that goethH1980 before meH6440, and afterwardH310 I will seeH7200 his faceH6440; peradventure he will acceptH5375 of meH6440. {of me: Heb. my face}
So wentH5674 the presentH4503 overH5674 before himH6440: and himself lodgedH3885 that nightH3915 in the companyH4264.
And he rose upH6965 that nightH3915, and tookH3947 his twoH8147 wivesH802, and his twoH8147 womenservantsH8198, and his elevenH6240+H259 sonsH3206, and passed overH5674 the fordH4569 JabbokH2999.
And he took themH3947, and sent them overH5674 the brookH5158, and sent overH5674 that he had. {sent them: Heb. caused to pass}
And JacobH3290 was leftH3498 alone; and there wrestledH79 a manH376 with him until the breakingH5927 of the dayH7837. {breaking…: Heb. ascending of the morning}
And when he sawH7200 that he prevailedH3201 not against him, he touchedH5060 the hollow of his thighH3409; and the hollowH3709 of Jacob'sH3290 thighH3409 was out of jointH3363, as he wrestledH79 with him.
And he saidH559, Let me goH7971, for the dayH7837 breakethH5927. And he saidH559, I will not let thee goH7971, exceptH518 thou blessH1288 me.
And he saidH559 unto him, What is thy nameH8034? And he saidH559, JacobH3290.
And he saidH559, Thy nameH8034 shall be calledH559 no more JacobH3290, but IsraelH3478: for as a prince hast thou powerH8280 with GodH430 and with menH582, and hast prevailedH3201. {Israel: that is, A prince of God}
And JacobH3290 askedH7592 him, and saidH559, TellH5046 me, I pray thee, thy nameH8034. And he saidH559, Wherefore is itH2088 that thou dost askH7592 after my nameH8034? And he blessedH1288 him there.
And JacobH3290 calledH7121 the nameH8034 of the placeH4725 PenielH6439: for I have seenH7200 GodH430 faceH6440 to faceH6440, and my lifeH5315 is preservedH5337. {Peniel: that is, The face of God}
And as he passed overH5674 PenuelH6439 the sunH8121 roseH2224 upon him, and he haltedH6760 upon his thighH3409.
Therefore the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 eatH398 not of the sinewH1517 which shrankH5384, which is upon the hollowH3709 of the thighH3409, unto this dayH3117: because he touchedH5060 the hollowH3709 of Jacob'sH3290 thighH3409 in the sinewH1517 that shrankH5384.
And the timeH3117 drew nighH7126 that IsraelH3478 must dieH4191: and he calledH7121 his sonH1121 JosephH3130, and saidH559 unto him, If now I have foundH4672 graceH2580 in thy sightH5869, putH7760, I pray thee, thy handH3027 under my thighH3409, and dealH6213 kindlyH2617 and trulyH571 with me; buryH6912 me not, I pray thee, in EgyptH4714:
But I will lieH7901 with my fathersH1, and thou shalt carryH5375 me out of EgyptH4714, and buryH6912 me in their buryingplaceH6900. And he saidH559, I will doH6213 as thou hast saidH1697.
And he saidH559, SwearH7650 unto me. And he swareH7650 unto him. And IsraelH3478 bowedH7812 himself upon the bed'sH4296 headH7218.
