For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint:
Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
Hide me from the secret counsel of evil-doers,
From the {Or, throng}tumult of the workers of iniquity;
Who have whet their tongue like a sword,
And have aimed their arrows, even bitter words,
That they may shoot in secret places at the perfect:
Suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.
They encourage themselves in an evil purpose;
They commune of laying snares privily;
They say, Who will see them?
They search out iniquities;
{Or, as otherwise read. They have accomplished (or, have hidden)}We have accomplished, say they, a diligent search:
And the inward thought and the heart of every one is deep.
But God will shoot at them;
With an arrow suddenly shall they be wounded.
So {Or, shall they against whom their tongue was make them to stumble}they shall be made to stumble, their own tongue being against them:
All that see them shall {Or, flee away}wag the head.
And all men shall fear;
And they shall declare the work of God,
And shall wisely consider of his doing.
The righteous shall be glad in Jehovah, and shall take refuge in him;
And all the upright in heart shall glory.
Querverweise zu Psalm 64,3 Ps 64,3
My soul is among lions;I {Or, must lie}lie among them that are set on fire,Even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows,And their tongue a sharp sword.
For, lo, the wicked bend the bow,They make ready their arrow upon the string,That they may shoot in darkness at the upright in heart;
There is that speaketh rashly like the piercings of a sword;But the tongue of the wise is health.
Let them melt away as water that runneth apace:When he aimeth his arrows, let them be as though they were cut off.
There is a generation whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives,To devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.
No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of Jehovah, and {Or, their righteousness is of me}their righteousness which is of me, saith Jehovah.
And they bend their tongue, as it were their bow, for falsehood; and they are grown strong in the land, but not for {Or, faithfulness}truth: for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith Jehovah.
And the tongue is {Or, a fire, that world of iniquity: the tongue is among our members that which &c.}a fire: the {Or, that world of iniquity: the tongue, is among our members that which &c.}world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the wheel of {Or, birth}nature, and is set on fire by {Greek: Gehenna.}hell.
For every {Greek: nature.}kind of beasts and birds, of creeping things and things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed {Or, unto}by {Greek: the human nature.}mankind:
but the tongue can no man tame; it is a restless evil, it is full of deadly poison.
