And Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and smote the king thereof with the sword: for Hazor beforetime was the head of all those kingdoms.
And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, {Hebrew: devoting.}utterly destroying them; there was none left that breathed: and he burnt Hazor with fire.
And all the cities of those kings, and all the kings of them, did Joshua take, and he smote them with the edge of the sword, and {Hebrew: devoted.}utterly destroyed them; as Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded.
But as for the cities that stood on their mounds, Israel burned none of them, save Hazor only; that did Joshua burn.
And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Israel took for a prey unto themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, neither left they any that breathed.
And the children of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, when Ehud was dead.
And Jehovah sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, that reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose host was Sisera, who dwelt in Harosheth of the {Or, nations}Gentiles.
Then sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying,
For that the leaders took the lead in Israel,For that the people offered themselves willingly,Bless ye Jehovah.
Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes;I, even I, will sing unto Jehovah;I will sing praise to Jehovah, the God of Israel.
Jehovah, when thou wentest forth out of Seir,When thou marchedst out of the field of Edom,The earth trembled, the heavens also dropped,Yea, the clouds dropped water.
The mountains quaked at the presence of Jehovah,Even yon Sinai at the presence of Jehovah, the God of Israel.
In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath,In the days of Jael, {Or, the caravans ceased}the highways were unoccupied,And the travellers walked through {Hebrew: crooked ways.}byways.
{Or, The villages were unoccupied}The rulers ceased in Israel, they ceased,Until that I Deborah arose,That I arose a mother in Israel.
They chose new gods;Then was war in the gates:Was there a shield or spear seenAmong forty thousand in Israel?
My heart is toward the governors of Israel, {Or, Ye that offered yourselves willingly among the people, bless &c.}That offered themselves willingly among the people:Bless ye Jehovah.
Tell of it, ye that ride on white asses,Ye that sit on rich carpets,And ye that walk by the way.
{Or, Because of the voice of the archers…there let them rehearse}Far from the noise of archers, in the places of drawing water,There shall they rehearse the righteous acts of Jehovah,Even the righteous acts {Or, toward his villages}of his rule in Israel.Then the people of Jehovah went down to the gates.
Awake, awake, Deborah;Awake, awake, utter a song:Arise, Barak, and lead away thy captives, thou son of Abinoam.
{Or, Then go down, O remnant, for the nobles…O Jehovah, go down for me against the mighty Or, Then made he a remnant to have dominion over the nobles and the people; Jehovah made me have dominion over the mighty}Then came down a remnant of the nobles {Or, as otherwise read. The kings came and fought;Then fought the kings of Canaan.In Taanach by the waters of Megiddo:They took no gain of money.
From heaven fought the stars,From their courses they fought against Sisera.
The river Kishon swept them away,That ancient river, the river Kishon.O my soul, {Or, thou hast trodden down strength}march on with strength.
Then did the horsehoofs stampBy reason of the prancings, the prancings of their strong ones.

Blessed {Or, of}above women shall Jael be,The wife of Heber the Kenite;Blessed shall she be {Or, of}above women in the tent.
He asked water, and she gave him milk;She brought him butter in a lordly dish.
She put her hand to the tent-pin,And her right hand to the workmen's hammer;And with the hammer she smote Sisera, she smote through his head;Yea, she pierced and struck through his temples.
At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay;At her feet he bowed, he fell;Where he bowed, there he fell down {Or, overpowered}dead.
Through the window she looked forth, and cried,The mother of Sisera cried through the lattice,Why is his chariot so long in coming?Why tarry the {Hebrew: steps.}wheels of his chariots?
Her wise ladies answered her, {Or, (Yet she repeateth her words unto herself)}Yea, she returned answer to herself,
Have they not found, have they not divided the spoil?A damsel, two damsels to every man;To Sisera a spoil of dyed garments,A spoil of dyed garments embroidered,Of dyed garments embroidered on both sides, on the necks of the spoil?
So let all thine enemies perish, O Jehovah:But let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might.And the land had rest forty years.
The kings came and fought;Then fought the kings of Canaan.In Taanach by the waters of Megiddo:They took no gain of money.

A Song, a Psalm of Asaph.O God, keep not thou silence:Hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God.
For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult;And they that hate thee have lifted up the head.
They take crafty counsel against thy people,And consult together against thy hidden ones.
They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation;That the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.
For they have consulted together with one consent;Against thee do they make a covenant:
The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites;Moab, and the {Or, Hagrites See 1 Chronicles 5:10.}Hagarenes;
Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek;Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre:
Assyria also is joined with them;They have {Hebrew: been an arm to the children of Lot.}helped the children of Lot. [Selah
Do thou unto them as unto Midian,As to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the river Kishon;
Who perished at Endor,Who became as dung for the earth.
Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb;Yea, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna;
Who said, Let us take to ourselves in possessionThe {Or, pastures}habitations of God.
O my God, make them like the whirling dust;As stubble before the wind.
As the fire that burneth the forest,And as the flame that setteth the mountains on fire,
So pursue them with thy tempest,And terrify them with thy storm.
Fill their faces with confusion,That they may seek thy name, O Jehovah.
Let them be put to shame and dismayed for ever;Yea, let them be confounded and perish;
That they may know that {Or, thou whose name alone is Jehovah, art &c.}thou alone, whose name is Jehovah,Art the Most High over all the earth.
Who perished at Endor,Who became as dung for the earth.
And it shall be, when Jehovah thy God shall bring thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee, great and goodly cities, which thou buildest not,
and houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and cisterns hewn out, which thou hewedst not, vineyards and olive-trees, which thou plantedst not, and thou shalt eat and be full;
When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by wielding an axe against them; for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down; for is the tree of the field man, that it should be besieged of thee?
Only the trees of which thou knowest that they are not trees for food, thou shalt destroy and cut them down; and thou shalt build bulwarks against the city that maketh war with thee, until it fall.
When Jehovah thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and shall {Hebrew: pluck off.}cast out many nations before thee, the Hittite, and the Girgashite, and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;
and when Jehovah thy God shall deliver them up before thee, and thou shalt smite them; then thou shalt {Hebrew: devote.}utterly destroy them: thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor show mercy unto them;
neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.
For he will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of Jehovah be kindled against you, and he will destroy thee quickly.
But thus shall ye deal with them: ye shall break down their altars, and dash in pieces their {Or, obelisks}pillars, and hew down their Asherim, and burn their graven images with fire.
For thou art a holy people unto Jehovah thy God: Jehovah thy God hath chosen thee to be a people for his own possession, {Or, out of}above all peoples that are upon the face of the earth.
But of the cities of these peoples, that Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth;
but thou shalt {Hebrew: devote.}utterly destroy them: the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; as Jehovah thy God hath commanded thee;
that they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so would ye sin against Jehovah your God.
for our God is a consuming fire.
And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was priest of {Hebrew: El Elyon.}God Most High.
And in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet full.
And Jehovah said, My spirit shall not {Or, rule in According to Septuagint Version, Vulgate and Syriac abide in.}strive with man for ever, {Or, in their going astray they are flesh}for that he also is flesh: {Or, therefore}yet shall his days be a hundred and twenty years.
Wherefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts unto uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves:
For this cause God gave them up unto {Greek: passions of dishonor.}vile passions: for their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature:
And even as they {Greek: did not approve.}refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up unto a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting;
For I would not, brethren, have you ignorant of this mystery, lest ye be wise in your own conceits, that a hardening in part hath befallen Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in;
And for this cause God sendeth them a working of error, that they should believe a lie:
that they all might be judged who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
for, {Joel 2:32}Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
and she said unto the men, I know that Jehovah hath given you the land, and that the fear of you is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you.
For we have heard how Jehovah dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordan, unto Sihon and to Og, whom ye {Hebrew: devoted.}utterly destroyed.
And as soon as we had heard it, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more spirit in any man, because of you: for Jehovah your God, he is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath.
And they said unto him, From a very far country thy servants are come because of the name of Jehovah thy God: for we have heard the fame of him, and all that he did in Egypt,
and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, who was at Ashtaroth.
(for he saith, {Isaiah 49:8.}At an acceptable time I hearkened unto thee,And in a day of salvation did I succor thee:behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation):
The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked; but now he {Some ancient authorities read declareth to men.}commandeth men that they should all everywhere repent:
inasmuch as he hath appointed a day in which he will judge {Greek: the inhabited earth.}the world in righteousness {Greek: in.}by {Or, a man}the man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
