A Song, a Psalm of Asaph.
O God, keep not thou silence:
Hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God.
For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult;
And they that hate thee have lifted up the head.
They take crafty counsel against thy people,
And consult together against thy hidden ones.
They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation;
That the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.
For they have consulted together with one consent;
Against thee do they make a covenant:
The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites;
Moab, and the {Or, Hagrites See 1 Chronicles 5:10.}Hagarenes;
Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek;
Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre:
Assyria also is joined with them;
They have {Hebrew: been an arm to the children of Lot.}helped the children of Lot. [Selah
Do thou unto them as unto Midian,
As to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the river Kishon;
Who perished at Endor,
Who became as dung for the earth.
Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb;
Yea, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna;
Who said, Let us take to ourselves in possession
The {Or, pastures}habitations of God.
O my God, make them like the whirling dust;
As stubble before the wind.
As the fire that burneth the forest,
And as the flame that setteth the mountains on fire,
So pursue them with thy tempest,
And terrify them with thy storm.
Fill their faces with confusion,
That they may seek thy name, O Jehovah.
Let them be put to shame and dismayed for ever;
Yea, let them be confounded and perish;
That they may know that {Or, thou whose name alone is Jehovah, art &c.}thou alone, whose name is Jehovah,
Art the Most High over all the earth.

For the Chief Musician; set to {That is, The hind of the morning.}Aijeleth hash-Shahar. A Psalm of David.My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? {Or, Far from my help are the words of my groaning Hebrew: roaring.}Why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning?
Ah, the {Or, multitude}uproar of many peoples, that roar like the roaring of the seas; and the rushing of nations, that rush like the rushing of mighty waters!
The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but he shall rebuke {Hebrew: him.}them, and {Hebrew: he.}they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like the whirling dust before the storm.
At eventide, behold, terror; and before the morning {Hebrew: he is.}they are not. This is the portion of them that despoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.
Let them be as chaff before the wind,And the angel of Jehovah driving them on.
Thou art my King, O God:Command {Or, victories}deliverance for Jacob.
For the Chief Musician; A Psalm of David, a Song. {Or, God ariseth; and so throughout verse 1, 2, 3.}Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered;Let them also that hate him flee before him.
Why drawest thou back thy hand, even thy right hand?Pluck it out of thy bosom and consume them.
As smoke is driven away, so drive them away:As wax melteth before the fire,So let the wicked perish at the presence of God.
Yet God is my King of old,Working salvation in the midst of the earth.
And in the greatness of thine excellency thou overthrowest them that rise up against thee:Thou sendest forth thy wrath, it consumeth them as stubble.
Wilt thou harass a driven leaf?And wilt thou pursue the dry stubble?
That they are as stubble before the wind,And as chaff that the storm carrieth away?
{Or, Scarce are they planted, scarce are they sown, scarce hath their stock taken root in the earth, when he bloweth upon them &c.}Yea, they have not been planted; yea, they have not been sown; yea, their stock hath not taken root in the earth: moreover he bloweth upon them, and they wither, and the whirlwind taketh them away as stubble.
Who hath raised up one from the east, {Or, whom righteousness calleth to its foot Or, whom righteousness meeteth whitersoever he goeth}whom he calleth in righteousness to his foot? he giveth nations before him, and maketh him rule over kings; {Or, he maketh as the dust their sword, as the driven stubble their bow}he giveth them as the dust to his sword, as the driven stubble to his bow.
Therefore will I scatter them, as the stubble that passeth away, {Or, unto}by the wind of the wilderness.
whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor; and he will gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.
