Versliste
The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart; and {Or, godly}merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away {Or, through wickedness}from the evil to come.
He entereth into peace; they rest in their beds, each one that walketh {Or, straight before him}in his uprightness.
But draw near hither, ye sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and the harlot.
Against whom do ye sport yourselves? against whom make ye a wide mouth, and put out the tongue? are ye not children of transgression, a seed of falsehood,
The unclean spirit when {Or, it}he is gone out of the man, passeth through waterless places, seeking rest, and finding none, {Or, it}he saith, I will turn back unto my house whence I came out.
And when {Or, it}he is come, {Or, it}he findeth it swept and garnished.
Then goeth {Or, it}he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more evil than {Or, itself}himself; and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man becometh worse than the first.
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father it is your will to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and standeth not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. {Or, When one speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for his father also is a liar.}When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof.
A Psalm of David.Strive thou, O Jehovah, with them that strive with me:Fight thou against them that fight against me.
Take hold of shield and buckler,And stand up for my help.
Draw out also the spear, {Or, and the battle axe against &c.}and stop the way against them that pursue me:Say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.
Let them be put to shame and brought to dishonor that seek after my soul:Let them be turned back and confounded that devise my hurt.
Let them be as chaff before the wind,And the angel of Jehovah driving them on.
Let their way be {Hebrew: darkness and slippery places.}dark and slippery,And the angel of Jehovah pursuing them.
For without cause have they hid for me {Or, the pit of their net}their net in a pit;Without cause have they digged a pit for my soul.
Let destruction come upon him unawares; And let his net that he hath hid catch himself: {Or, Into that very destruction let him fall}With destruction let him fall therein.
And my soul shall be joyful in Jehovah:It shall rejoice in his salvation.
All my bones shall say, Jehovah, who is like unto thee,Who deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him,Yea, the poor and the needy from him that robbeth him?
{Or, malicious See Exodus 23:1}Unrighteous witnesses rise up;They ask me of things that I know not.
They reward me evil for good,To the bereaving of my soul.
But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth:I afflicted my soul with fasting; And my prayer {Or, shall return}returned into mine own bosom.
I behaved myself as though it had been my friend or my brother:I bowed down mourning, as one that bewaileth his mother.
But in {Hebrew: my limping.}mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together:The {Or, smiters}abjects gathered themselves together against me, and {Or, those whom I keep not}I knew it not; They did tear me, and ceased not:
{Or, Among}Like the profane mockers in feasts,They gnashed upon me with their teeth.
Lord, how long wilt thou look on?Rescue my soul from their destructions,My {Or, dear life Hebrew: only one.}darling from the lions.
I will give thee thanks in the great assembly:I will praise thee among {Or, a mighty people}much people.
Let not them that are mine enemies {Hebrew: falsely.}wrongfully rejoice over me;Neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.
For they speak not peace; But they devise deceitful words against them that are quiet in the land.
Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me;They said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it.
Thou hast seen it, O Jehovah; keep not silence:O Lord, be not far from me.
Stir up thyself, and awake to the justice due unto me,Even unto my cause, my God and my Lord.
Judge me, O Jehovah my God, according to thy righteousness; And let them not rejoice over me.
Let them not say in their heart, {Hebrew: Aha, our desire.}Aha, so would we have it:Let them not say, We have swallowed him up.
Let them be put to shame and confounded together that rejoice at my hurt:Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor that magnify themselves against me.
Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that {Hebrew: have pleasure in my rightousness.}favor my righteous cause:Yea, let them say continually, Jehovah be magnified,Who hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.
And my tongue shall talk of thy righteousnessAnd of thy praise all the day long.
Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me;They said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it.
Yet it pleased Jehovah to bruise him; he hath {Hebrew: made him sick.}put him to grief: {Or, when his soul shall make an offering}when thou shalt make his soul {Hebrew: a trespass-offering.}an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Jehovah shall prosper in his hand.
ye that inflame yourselves {Or, with idols}among the oaks, under every green tree; that slay the children in the valleys, under the clefts of the rocks?
Among the smooth stones of the valley is thy portion; they, they are thy lot; even to them hast thou poured a drink-offering, thou hast offered {Or, a meal-offering}an oblation. Shall I be appeased for these things?
Upon a high and lofty mountain hast thou set thy bed; thither also wentest thou up to offer sacrifice.
And behind the doors and the posts hast thou set up thy memorial: for thou hast uncovered thyself to another than me, and art gone up; thou hast enlarged thy bed, and made thee a covenant with them: thou lovedst their bed where {Or, thou providedst room for it}thou sawest it.
And thou wentest to the king with oil, and didst increase thy perfumes, and didst send thine ambassadors far off, and didst debase thyself even unto Sheol.
I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods; and he shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished; for that which is determined shall be done.
Thou wast wearied with the length of thy way; yet saidst thou not, It is in vain: thou didst find {Hebrew: the life of thy hand.}a quickening of thy strength; therefore thou wast not {Hebrew: sick.}faint.
And of whom hast thou been afraid and in fear, that thou liest, and hast not remembered me, nor laid it to thy heart? have not I held my peace even of long time, and thou fearest me not?
I will declare thy righteousness; and as for thy works, they shall not profit thee.
When thou criest, let {Or, thy rabble of idols.}them that thou hast gathered deliver thee; but the wind shall take them, a breath shall carry them all away: but he that taketh refuge in me shall possess the land, and shall inherit my holy mountain.
And {Or, it shall be said}he will say, Cast ye up, cast ye up, prepare the way, take up the stumbling-block out of the way of my people.
For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.
For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth; for the spirit would faint before me, and the souls that I have made.
For the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him; I hid my face and was wroth; and he went on {Hebrew: turning away.}backsliding in the way of his heart.
I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and {Hebrew: recompense.}restore comforts unto him and to his mourners.
I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace, to him that is far off and to him that is near, saith Jehovah; and I will heal him.
But the wicked are like the troubled sea; for it cannot rest, and its waters cast up mire and dirt.
There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.
No man hath seen God at any time; {Many very ancient authorities read God only begotten.}the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
And the Word became flesh, and {Greek: tabernacled}dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, glory as of {Or, an only begotten from a father Compare Hebrews 11:17}the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth.
