A Psalm of David.
Strive thou, O Jehovah, with them that strive with me:
Fight thou against them that fight against me.
Take hold of shield and buckler,
And stand up for my help.
Draw out also the spear, {Or, and the battle axe against &c.}and stop the way against them that pursue me:
Say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.
Let them be put to shame and brought to dishonor that seek after my soul:
Let them be turned back and confounded that devise my hurt.
Let them be as chaff before the wind,
And the angel of Jehovah driving them on.
Let their way be {Hebrew: darkness and slippery places.}dark and slippery,
And the angel of Jehovah pursuing them.
For without cause have they hid for me {Or, the pit of their net}their net in a pit;
Without cause have they digged a pit for my soul.
Let destruction come upon him unawares;
And let his net that he hath hid catch himself:
{Or, Into that very destruction let him fall}With destruction let him fall therein.
And my soul shall be joyful in Jehovah:
It shall rejoice in his salvation.
All my bones shall say, Jehovah, who is like unto thee,
Who deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him,
Yea, the poor and the needy from him that robbeth him?
{Or, malicious See Exodus 23:1}Unrighteous witnesses rise up;
They ask me of things that I know not.
They reward me evil for good,
To the bereaving of my soul.
But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth:
I afflicted my soul with fasting;
And my prayer {Or, shall return}returned into mine own bosom.
I behaved myself as though it had been my friend or my brother:
I bowed down mourning, as one that bewaileth his mother.
But in {Hebrew: my limping.}mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together:
The {Or, smiters}abjects gathered themselves together against me, and {Or, those whom I keep not}I knew it not;
They did tear me, and ceased not:
{Or, Among}Like the profane mockers in feasts,
They gnashed upon me with their teeth.
Lord, how long wilt thou look on?
Rescue my soul from their destructions,
My {Or, dear life Hebrew: only one.}darling from the lions.
I will give thee thanks in the great assembly:
I will praise thee among {Or, a mighty people}much people.
Let not them that are mine enemies {Hebrew: falsely.}wrongfully rejoice over me;
Neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.
For they speak not peace;
But they devise deceitful words against them that are quiet in the land.
Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me;
They said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it.
Thou hast seen it, O Jehovah; keep not silence:
O Lord, be not far from me.
Stir up thyself, and awake to the justice due unto me,
Even unto my cause, my God and my Lord.
Judge me, O Jehovah my God, according to thy righteousness;
And let them not rejoice over me.
Let them not say in their heart, {Hebrew: Aha, our desire.}Aha, so would we have it:
Let them not say, We have swallowed him up.
Let them be put to shame and confounded together that rejoice at my hurt:
Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor that magnify themselves against me.
Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that {Hebrew: have pleasure in my rightousness.}favor my righteous cause:
Yea, let them say continually, Jehovah be magnified,
Who hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.
And my tongue shall talk of thy righteousness
And of thy praise all the day long.
Querverweise zu Psalm 35,17 Ps 35,17
My soul also is sore troubled:And thou, O Jehovah, how long?
Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest {Or, travail and grief}mischief and spite, {Or, to take it into thy hand}to requite it with thy hand:The {Or, hapless}helpless committeth himself unto thee;Thou hast been the helper of the fatherless.
Deliver my soul from the sword,My {Or, dear life Hebrew: only one.}darling from the power of the dog.
For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou forget me for ever?How long wilt thou hide thy face from me?
Thou that art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and that canst not look on perverseness, wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy peace when the wicked swalloweth up the man that is more righteous than he;
Save me from the lion's mouth;Yea, from the horns of the wild-oxen thou hast answered me.
How long shall I take counsel in my soul,Having sorrow in my heart all the day?How long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?
My soul is among lions;I {Or, must lie}lie among them that are set on fire,Even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows,And their tongue a sharp sword.
We see not our signs:There is no more any prophet;Neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.
Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink:Let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.
How long, O God, shall the adversary reproach?Shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?
Let not the waterflood overwhelm me,Neither let the deep swallow me up;And let not the pit shut its mouth upon me.
How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou hide thyself for ever?How long shall thy wrath burn like fire?
Attend unto my cry;For I am brought very low:Deliver me from my persecutors;For they are stronger than I.
Jehovah, how long shall the wicked,How long shall the wicked triumph?
Bring my soul out of prison,That I may give thanks unto thy name:The righteous shall {Or, crown themselves because of me}compass me about;For thou wilt deal bountifully with me.
They prate, they speak arrogantly:All the workers of iniquity boast themselves.
