{Isaiah 40:3.}The voice of one crying in the wilderness,Make ye ready the way of the Lord,Make his paths straight;
John came, who baptized in the wilderness and preached the baptism of repentance unto remission of sins.
And there went out unto him all the country of Judæa, and all they of Jerusalem; and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
And John was clothed with camel's hair, and had a leathern girdle about his loins, and did eat locusts and wild honey.
And he preached, saying, There cometh after me he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not {Greek: sufficient.}worthy to stoop down and unloose.
I baptized you {Or, with}in water; but he shall baptize you {Or, with}in the Holy Spirit.
{That is, The church, or, The sister.}She that is in Babylon, elect together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Mark my son.
And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together and were praying.
And Barnabas and Saul returned {Many ancient authorities read to Jerusalem.}from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministration, taking with them John whose surname was Mark.
And when they were at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John as their attendant.
Now Paul and his company set sail from Paphos, and came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departed from them and returned to Jerusalem.

and Jesus that is called Justus, who are of the circumcision: these only are my fellow-workers unto the kingdom of God, men that have been a comfort unto me.
and so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow-workers.
Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee; for he is useful to me for ministering.
but now is manifested, and {Greek: through.}by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the eternal God, is made known unto all the {Or, Gentiles}nations unto obedience {Or, to the faith}of faith:
For no prophecy ever {Greek: was brought.}came by the will of man: but men spake from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit.
as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; wherein are some things hard to be understood, which the ignorant and unstedfast wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
And {Some ancient authorities read he.}Jesus went about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the {Or, good tidings: and so elsewhere.}gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness among the people.
And the report of him went forth into all Syria: and they brought unto him all that were sick, holden with divers diseases and torments, {Or, demoniacs}possessed with demons, and epileptic, and palsied; and he healed them.
And there cometh to him a leper, beseeching him, {Some ancient authorities omit and kneeling down to him.}and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
And being moved with compassion, he stretched forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou made clean.
And straightway the leprosy departed from him, and he was made clean.
And he {Or, sternly}strictly charged him, and straightway sent him out,
and saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go show thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing the things which Moses {Leviticus 13:49; 14:2 ff}commanded, for a testimony unto them.
But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to spread abroad the {Greek: word.}matter, insomuch that {Greek: he.}Jesus could no more openly enter into {Or, the city}a city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
Surely he hath borne our {Hebrew: sicknesses.}griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
And as they went on the way, a certain man said unto him, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
But the Pharisees said, {Or, In}By the prince of the demons casteth he out demons.
And the centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not {Greek: sufficient.}worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof; but only say {Greek: with a word.}the word, and my {Or, boy}servant shall be healed.
{Or, Every scripture is inspired of God, and profitable}Every scripture inspired of God is also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for {Or, discipline}instruction which is in righteousness:
For no prophecy ever {Greek: was brought.}came by the will of man: but men spake from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit.
If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came (and the scripture cannot be broken),
For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
Behold, I send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, will suddenly come to his temple; {Or, even}and the {Or, angel}messenger of the covenant, whom ye desire, behold, he cometh, saith Jehovah of hosts.
Behold, I send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, will suddenly come to his temple; {Or, even}and the {Or, angel}messenger of the covenant, whom ye desire, behold, he cometh, saith Jehovah of hosts.
The voice of one {Or, that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way &c.}that crieth, Prepare ye in the wilderness the way of Jehovah; make level in the desert a highway for our God.
Then was fulfilled that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying, {Zechariah 11:12, 13.}And {Or, I took}they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was priced, {Or, whom they priced on the part of the sons of Israel}whom certain of the children of Israel did price;
and {Some ancient authorities read I gave.}they gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.
