Jesus answered and said unto her, Every one that drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up unto eternal life.
And Jehovah gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.
The Song of songs, which is Solomon's.
Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth;For thy love is better than wine.
Thine oils have a goodly fragrance;Thy name is as oil poured forth;Therefore do the {Or, maidens}virgins love thee.
Draw me; we will run after thee:The king hath brought me into his chambers;We will be glad and rejoice in thee;We will make mention of thy love more than of wine: {Or, In uprightness}Rightly do they love thee.
I am black, but comely,Oh ye daughters of Jerusalem,As the tents of Kedar,As the curtains of Solomon.
Look not upon me, because I am swarthy,Because the sun hath {Or, looked upon}scorched me.My mother's sons were incensed against me;They made me keeper of the vineyards;But mine own vineyard have I not kept.
Tell me, O thou whom my soul loveth,Where thou feedest thy flock,Where thou makest it to rest at noon:For why should I be as one that is veiledBeside the flocks of thy companions?
Look not upon me, because I am swarthy,Because the sun hath {Or, looked upon}scorched me.My mother's sons were incensed against me;They made me keeper of the vineyards;But mine own vineyard have I not kept.
Tell me, O thou whom my soul loveth,Where thou feedest thy flock,Where thou makest it to rest at noon:For why should I be as one that is veiledBeside the flocks of thy companions?
If thou know not, O thou fairest among women,Go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock,And feed thy kids beside the shepherds' tents.
The voice of my beloved! behold, he cometh,Leaping upon the mountains,Skipping upon the hills.
My beloved is like a {Or, gazelle}roe or a young hart:Behold, he standeth behind our wall;He looketh in at the windows;He glanceth through the lattice.
My beloved spake, and said unto me,Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.
For, lo, the winter is past;The rain is over and gone;
The flowers appear on the earth;The time of the {Or, pruning of vines}singing of birds is come,And the voice of the turtle-dove is heard in our land;
The fig-tree ripeneth her green figs,And the vines are in blossom;They give forth their fragrance.Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.
O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock,In the covert of the steep place,Let me see thy countenance,Let me hear thy voice;For sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely.
Take us the foxes, the little foxes,That spoil the vineyards;For our vineyards are in blossom.
My beloved is mine, and I am his:He feedeth his flock among the lilies.
{Or, When the day is cool}Until the day {Or, break Hebrew: breathe}be cool, and the shadows flee away,Turn, my beloved, and be thou like a {Or, gazelle}roe or a young hartUpon the {Or, mountains of separation}mountains of {Perhaps, the spice malobathron.}Bether.
By night on my bedI sought him whom my soul loveth:I sought him, but I found him not.
Who is this that cometh up from the wildernessLike pillars of smoke,Perfumed with myrrh and frankincense,With all powders of the merchant?
Behold, it is the litter of Solomon;Threescore mighty men are about it,Of the mighty men of Israel.
They all handle the sword, and are expert in war:Every man hath his sword upon his thigh,Because of fear in the night.
King Solomon made himself a {Or, ear of state}palanquinOf the wood of Lebanon.
He made the pillars thereof of silver,The bottom thereof of gold, the seat of it of purple,The midst thereof being {Or, inlaid}paved with love,From the daughters of Jerusalem.
Go forth, O ye daughters of Zion, and behold king Solomon,With the crown wherewith his mother hath crowned himIn the day of his espousals,And in the day of the gladness of his heart.
There are threescore queens, and fourscore concubines,And {Or, maidens}virgins without number.
My dove, my {Hebrew: perfect.}undefiled, is but one;She is the only one of her mother;She is the {Or, pure}choice one of her that bare her.The daughters saw her, and called her blessed;Yea, the queens and the concubines, and they praised her.
I {Or, sleep, but my heart waketh}was asleep, but my heart waked:It is the voice of my beloved that knocketh, saying,Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my {Hebrew: perfect.}undefiled;For my head is filled with dew,My locks with the drops of the night.
How beautiful are thy {Or, steps}feet in sandals, O prince's daughter!Thy rounded thighs are like jewels,The work of the hands of a skilful workman.
His left hand should be under my head,And his right hand should embrace me.
I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, {Hebrew: Why should ye stir up? or why &c.}That ye stir not up, nor awake my love,Until {Or, it Or, she}he please.
Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness,Leaning upon her beloved?Under the apple-tree I awakened thee:There thy mother was in travail with thee,There was she in travail {Or, and}that brought thee forth.
Set me as a seal upon thy heart,As a seal upon thine arm:For love is strong as death;Jealousy is {Hebrew: hard.}cruel as Sheol;The flashes thereof are flashes of fire, {Or, A most vehement flame}A very flame of {Hebrew: Jah.}Jehovah.
Many waters cannot quench love,Neither can floods drown it:If a man would give all the substance of his house for love, {Or, It}He would utterly be contemned.
We have a little sister,And she hath no breasts:What shall we do for our sisterIn the day when she shall be spoken for?
If she be a wall,We will build upon her {Or, battlements}a turret of silver:And if she be a door,We will inclose her with boards of cedar.
I {Or, was}am a wall, and my breasts like the towers thereof Then was I in his eyes as one that found peace.
Solomon had a vineyard at Baal-hamon;He let out the vineyard unto keepers;Every one for the fruit thereof was to bring a thousand pieces of silver.
My vineyard, which is mine, is before me:Thou, O Solomon, shalt have the thousand,And those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred.
Thou that dwellest in the gardens,The companions hearken {Or, to}for thy voice:Cause me to hear it.
{Hebrew: Flee.}Make haste, my beloved,And be thou like to a {Or, gazelle}roe or to a young hartUpon the mountains of spices.
His left hand should be under my head,And his right hand should embrace me.

My beloved is mine, and I am his:He feedeth his flock among the lilies.
I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine:He feedeth his flock among the lilies.
Thou that dwellest in the gardens,The companions hearken {Or, to}for thy voice:Cause me to hear it.
My beloved is mine, and I am his:He feedeth his flock among the lilies.
My beloved is gone down to his garden,To the beds of {Or, balsam}spices,To feed in the gardens, and to gather lilies.
I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine:He feedeth his flock among the lilies.
Look not upon me, because I am swarthy,Because the sun hath {Or, looked upon}scorched me.My mother's sons were incensed against me;They made me keeper of the vineyards;But mine own vineyard have I not kept.
Before I was aware, my {Or, desire}soul {Or, made me like the chariots of Amminadib}set meAmong the chariots of my {Or, willing}princely people.

Thy cheeks are comely with plaits of hair,Thy neck with strings of jewels.
We will make thee plaits of goldWith studs of silver.
While the king sat at his table,My spikenard sent forth its fragrance.
Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; {Or, Thou hast doves' eyes}Thine eyes are as doves behind thy {Or, locks}veil.Thy hair is as a flock of goats,That {Or, appear on mount Gilead}lie along the side of mount Gilead.
Thou art all fair, my love;And there is no spot in thee.
Behold, thou art fair, my love;Behold thou art fair; {Or, Thou hast doves' eyes}Thine eyes are as doves.
Thou hast {Or, given me courage}ravished my heart, my sister, my bride;Thou hast {Or, given me courage}ravished my heart with {Or, one look from thine eyes}one of thine eyes,With one chain of thy neck.
How fair is thy love, my sister, my bride!How much better is thy love than wine!And the fragrance of thine oils than all manner of spices!
Thy lips, O my bride, {Or, drop honey}drop as the honeycomb:Honey and milk are under thy tongue;And the smell of thy garments is like the smell of Lebanon.
A garden {Hebrew: barred.}shut up is my sister, my bride;A spring shut up, a fountain sealed.
Wives, be in subjection unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, being himself the saviour of the body.
But as the church is subject to Christ, {Or, so are the wives also}so let the wives also be to their husbands in everything.
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it;
that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the {Greek: laver.}washing of water with the word,
that he might present the church to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Even so ought husbands also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his own wife loveth himself:
for no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as Christ also the church;
because we are members of his body.
{Genesis 2:24.}For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh.
This mystery is great: but I speak in regard of Christ and of the church.
Nevertheless do ye also severally love each one his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she fear her husband.
And Jehovah said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee; for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not be king over them.
