The Song of songs, which is Solomon's.
Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth;
For thy love is better than wine.
Thine oils have a goodly fragrance;
Thy name is as oil poured forth;
Therefore do the {Or, maidens}virgins love thee.
Draw me; we will run after thee:
The king hath brought me into his chambers;
We will be glad and rejoice in thee;
We will make mention of thy love more than of wine:
{Or, In uprightness}Rightly do they love thee.
I am black, but comely,
Oh ye daughters of Jerusalem,
As the tents of Kedar,
As the curtains of Solomon.
Look not upon me, because I am swarthy,
Because the sun hath {Or, looked upon}scorched me.
My mother's sons were incensed against me;
They made me keeper of the vineyards;
But mine own vineyard have I not kept.
Tell me, O thou whom my soul loveth,
Where thou feedest thy flock,
Where thou makest it to rest at noon:
For why should I be as one that is veiled
Beside the flocks of thy companions?
If thou know not, O thou fairest among women,
Go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock,
And feed thy kids beside the shepherds' tents.
I have compared thee, O {Or, my friend (and so throughout)}my love,
{Or, To the steeds Or, To my steed}To a steed in Pharaoh's chariots.
Thy cheeks are comely with plaits of hair,
Thy neck with strings of jewels.
We will make thee plaits of gold
With studs of silver.
While the king sat at his table,
My spikenard sent forth its fragrance.
My beloved is unto me as a {Or, bag}bundle of myrrh,
That lieth betwixt my breasts.
My beloved is unto me as a cluster of {Hebrew: copher.}henna-flowers
In the vineyards of En-gedi.
Behold, thou art fair, my love;
Behold thou art fair;
{Or, Thou hast doves' eyes}Thine eyes are as doves.
Behold, thou art fair, my beloved, yea, pleasant:
Also our couch is green.
The beams of our {Or, houses}house are {Or, of cedar…of fir}cedars,
And our rafters are {Or, cypresses}firs.

Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because Jehovah hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously, though she is thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.
Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; {Or, Thou hast doves' eyes}Thine eyes are as doves behind thy {Or, locks}veil.Thy hair is as a flock of goats,That {Or, appear on mount Gilead}lie along the side of mount Gilead.

His eyes are like doves beside the water-brooks,Washed with milk, and {Or, sitting by full streams}fitly set.
Thou art all fair, my love;And there is no spot in thee.
For I am jealous over you with {Greek: a jealously of God.}a godly jealousy: for I espoused you to one husband, that I might present you as a pure virgin to Christ.
How fair is thy love, my sister, my bride!How much better is thy love than wine!And the fragrance of thine oils than all manner of spices!
But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve in his craftiness, your {Greek: thoughts. See chapter 3:14.}minds should be corrupted from the simplicity and the purity that is toward Christ.
