Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he afterward hungered.
And the tempter came and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become {Greek: loaves.}bread.
But he answered and said, It is written, {Deuteronomy 8:3}Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Then the devil taketh him into the holy city; and he set him on the {Greek: wing.}pinnacle of the temple,
and saith unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written,
{Psalm 41:11, 12}He shall give his angels charge concerning thee:
and,
On their hands they shall bear thee up,
Lest haply thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Jesus said unto him, Again it is written, {Deuteronomy 6:16}Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God.
Again, the devil taketh him unto an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
and he said unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and {See marginal note on chapter 2:2.}worship me.
Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, {Deuteronomy 6:13}Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Then the devil leaveth him; and behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
Now when he heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee;
and leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali:
that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,
{Isaiah 9:1, 2}The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,
{Greek: The way of the sea.}Toward the sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the {Greek: nations: and so elsewhere.}Gentiles,
The people that sat in darkness
Saw a great light,
And to them that sat in the region and shadow of death,
To them did light spring up.
From that time began Jesus to preach, and to say, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brethren, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishers.
And he saith unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you fishers of men.
And they straightway left the nets, and followed him.
And going on from thence he saw two other brethren, {Or, Jacob}James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.
And they straightway left the boat and their father, and followed him.
And {Some ancient authorities read he.}Jesus went about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the {Or, good tidings: and so elsewhere.}gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness among the people.
And the report of him went forth into all Syria: and they brought unto him all that were sick, holden with divers diseases and torments, {Or, demoniacs}possessed with demons, and epileptic, and palsied; and he healed them.
And there followed him great multitudes from Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judæa and from beyond the Jordan.
Querverweise zu Matthäus 4,13 Mt 4,13
But he passing through the midst of them went his way.
And thou, Capernaum, shalt thou be exalted unto heaven? thou shalt {Many ancient authorities read be brought down.}go down unto Hades: for if the {Greek: powers.}mighty works had been done in Sodom which were done in thee, it would have remained until this day.
And the third lot came up for the children of Zebulun according to their families; and the border of their inheritance was unto Sarid;
and their border went up westward, even to Maralah, and reached to Dabbesheth; and it reached to the brook that is before Jokneam;
and it turned from Sarid eastward toward the sunrising unto the border of Chisloth-tabor; and it went out to Daberath, and went up to Japhia;
and from thence it passed along eastward to Gath-hepher, to Eth-kazin; and it went out at Rimmon which stretcheth unto Neah;
and the border turned about it on the north to Hannathon; and the goings out thereof were at the valley of Iphtah-el;
and Kattath, and Nahalal, and Shimron, and Idalah, and Bethlehem: twelve cities with their villages.
This is the inheritance of the children of Zebulun according to their families, these cities with their villages.
The sixth lot came out for the children of Naphtali, even for the children of Naphtali according to their families.
And their border was from Heleph, from the {Or, oak (or, terebinth) of Bezaanannim}oak in Zaanannim, and Adaminekeb, and Jabneel, unto Lakkum; and the goings out thereof were at the Jordan;
and the border turned westward to Aznoth-tabor, and went out from thence to Hukkok; and it reached to Zebulun on the south, and reached to Asher on the west, and to Judah at the Jordan toward the sunrising.
And the fortified cities were Ziddim, Zer, and Hammath, Rakkath, and Chinnereth,
and Adamah, and Ramah, and Hazor,
and Kedesh, and Edrei, and En-hazor,
and Iron, and Migdal-el, Horem, and Beth-anath, and Beth-shemesh; nineteen cities with their villages.
This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Naphtali according to their families, the cities with their villages.
And he came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. And he was teaching them on the sabbath day:
And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received the {Greek: didrachma. Compare marginal note on Luke 15:8.}half-shekel came to Peter, and said, Doth not your teacher pay the {Greek: didrachma. Compare marginal note on Luke 15:8.}half-shekel?
And they go into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue and taught.
He came therefore again unto Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain {Or, king's officer}nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.
and they entered into a boat, and were going over the sea unto Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them.
when the multitude therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they themselves got into the {Greek: little boats.}boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.
These things said he in the {Or, a synagogue}synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
