A Psalm of David.
I will sing of lovingkindness and justice:
Unto thee, O Jehovah, will I sing praises.
I will {Or, give heed unto the perfect way}behave myself wisely in a perfect way:
Oh when wilt thou come unto me?
I will walk within my house {Or, in the integrity of my heart}with a perfect heart.
I will set no base thing before mine eyes:
I hate {Or, the doing of unfaithfulness}the work of them that turn aside;
It shall not cleave unto me.
A perverse heart shall depart from me:
I will know no {Or, evil person}evil thing.
Whoso privily slandereth his neighbor, him will I destroy:
Him that hath a high look and a proud heart will I not suffer.
Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me:
He that walketh in a perfect way, he shall minister unto me.
He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house:
He that speaketh falsehood shall not be established before mine eyes.
Morning by morning will I destroy all the wicked of the land;
To cut off all the workers of iniquity from the city of Jehovah.
Querverweise zu Psalm 101,5 Ps 101,5
{Or, He slandereth}He that slandereth not with his tongue,Nor doeth evil to his friend,Nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbor;
In the pride of the wicked {Or, he doth hotly pursue the poor}the poor {Hebrew: is set on fire.}is hotly pursued; {Or, They are taken}Let them be taken in the devices that they have conceived.
For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire,And {Or, blesseth the covetous, but contemneth &c.}the covetous renounceth, yea, {Or, revileth}contemneth Jehovah.
The wicked, in the pride of his countenance, saith, He will not require it.All his thoughts are, There is no God.
Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother;Thou {Or, givest a thrust against}slanderest thine own mother's son.
For thou wilt save the afflicted people;But the haughty eyes thou wilt bring down.
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
For though Jehovah is high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly;But the haughty he knoweth from afar.
Thou shalt not take up a false report: put not thy hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.
Talk no more so exceeding proudly;Let not arrogancy come out of your mouth;For Jehovah is a God of knowledge, {According to another reading, Though actions be not weighed.}And by him actions are weighed.
Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbor: I am Jehovah.
Pour forth the overflowings of thine anger;And look upon every one that is proud, and abase him.
He that hideth hatred is of lying lips;And he that uttereth a slander is a fool.
Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low;And tread down the wicked where they stand.
He that goeth about as a tale-bearer revealeth secrets;Therefore company not with him that openeth wide his lips.
There are six things which Jehovah hateth;Yea, seven which are an abomination {Hebrew: of his soul.}unto him:
Haughty eyes, a lying tongue,And hands that shed innocent blood;
A heart that deviseth wicked purposes,Feet that are swift in running to mischief,
A false witness that {Hebrew: breatheth out.}uttereth lies,And he that {Hebrew: letteth loose.}soweth discord among brethren.
The north wind bringeth forth rain:So doth a backbiting tongue an angry countenance.
There is a generation, oh how lofty are their eyes!And their eyelids are lifted up.
Slanderous men have been in thee to shed blood; and in thee they have eaten upon the mountains: in the midst of thee they have committed lewdness.
The lofty looks of man shall be brought low, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and Jehovah alone shall be exalted in that day.
but {Or, now I write}as it is, I wrote unto you not to keep company, if any man that is named a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such a one no, not to eat.
Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven; for all his works are truth, and his ways justice; and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.
Women in like manner must be grave, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.
The pride of thy heart hath deceived thee, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of {Or, Sela}the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?
that aged women likewise be reverent in demeanor, not slanderers nor enslaved to much wine, teachers of that which is good;
Though thou mount on high as the eagle, and though thy nest be set among the stars, I will bring thee down from thence, saith Jehovah.
I say unto you, This man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled; but he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
{Or, Likewise...elder; yea, all of you one to another. Gird yourselves with humility}Likewise, ye younger, be subject unto the elder. Yea, all of you gird yourselves with humility, to serve one another: for God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time;
