A Prayer of Moses the man of God.
Lord, thou hast been our dwelling-place
In all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth,
Or ever thou {Hebrew: gavest birth to.}hadst formed the earth and the world,
Even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
Thou turnest man to {Or, dust Hebrew: crushing.}destruction,
And sayest, Return, ye children of men.
For a thousand years in thy sight
Are but as yesterday {Or, when it passeth}when it is past,
And as a watch in the night.
Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep:
In the morning they are like grass which groweth up.
In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up;
In the evening it is cut down, and withereth.
For we are consumed in thine anger,
And in thy wrath are we troubled.
Thou hast set our iniquities before thee,
Our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.
For all our days are passed away in thy wrath:
We bring our years to an end as {Or, a sound}a sigh.
The days of our years are threescore years and ten,
Or even by reason of strength fourscore years;
Yet is their pride but labor and sorrow;
For it is soon gone, and we fly away.
Who knoweth the power of thine anger,
And thy wrath according to the fear that is due unto thee?
So teach us to number our days,
That we may get us a heart of wisdom.
Return, O Jehovah; how long?
And let it repent thee concerning thy servants.
Oh satisfy us in the morning with thy lovingkindness,
That we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us,
And the years wherein we have seen evil.
Let thy work appear unto thy servants,
And thy glory upon their children.
And let the {Or, beauty}favor of the Lord our God be upon us;
And establish thou the work of our hands upon us;
Yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.
Querverweise zu Psalm 90,2 Ps 90,2
Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth?Declare, {Hebrew: if thou knowest understanding.}if thou hast understanding.
Who determined the measures thereof, {Or, seeing}if thou knowest?Or who stretched the line upon it?
Whereupon were the {Hebrew: sockets.}foundations thereof {Hebrew: made to sink.}fastened?Or who laid the corner-stone thereof,
For he spake, and it was done;He commanded, and it stood fast.
Thy throne is established of old:Thou art from everlasting.
Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is none else.
Hath the rain a father?Or who hath begotten the drops of dew?
Who made heaven and earth,The sea, and all that in them is;Who keepeth truth for ever;
I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days:Thy years are throughout all generations.
Of old didst thou lay the foundation of the earth;And the heavens are the work of thy hands.
They shall perish, but thou shalt endure;Yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment;As a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed:
But thou art the same,And thy years shall have no end.
Out of whose womb came the ice?And the hoary frost of heaven, who hath {Or, given it birth}gendered it?
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
But the lovingkindness of Jehovah is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him,And his righteousness unto children's children;
Before the mountains were settled,Before the hills was I brought forth;
Thus saith Jehovah, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, Jehovah of hosts: I am the first, and I am the last; and besides me there is no God.
While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields,Nor the {Or, sum}beginning of the dust of the world.
For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.
{[Chapter 5:1 in Hebrew.]}But thou, Beth-lehem Ephrathah, which art little to be among the {Or, families See Judges 6:15.}thousands of Judah, out of thee shall one come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth are from of old, {Or, from ancient days}from everlasting.
Art not thou from everlasting, O Jehovah my God, my Holy One? we shall not die. O Jehovah, thou hast ordained him for judgment; and thou, O Rock, hast established him for correction.
which in {Or, his}its own times he shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of {Greek: them that reign as kings.}kings, and Lord of {Greek: them that rule as lords.}lords;
who only hath immortality, dwelling in light unapproachable; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power eternal. Amen.
And, {Psalm 102:25 ff.}Thou, Lord, in the beginning didst lay the foundation of the earth,And the heavens are the works of thy hands:
They shall perish; but thou continuest:And they all shall wax old as doth a garment;
And as a mantle shalt thou roll them up,As a garment, and they shall be changed:But thou art the same,And thy years shall not fail.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and to-day, (yea) and {Greek: unto the ages.}for ever.
I am the Alpha and the Omega, saith the Lord God, {Or, he who}who is and who was and {Or, he who}who is to come, the Almighty.
