For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
In thee, O Jehovah, do I take refuge;
Let me never be put to shame:
Deliver me in thy righteousness.
Bow down thine ear unto me; deliver me speedily:
Be thou to me a strong rock,
A house of {Hebrew: fortresses.}defence to save me.
For thou art my rock and my fortress;
Therefore for thy name's sake lead me and guide me.
Pluck me out of the net that they have laid privily for me;
For thou art my stronghold.
Into thy hand I commend my spirit:
Thou hast redeemed me, O Jehovah, thou God of truth.
I hate them that regard lying vanities;
But I trust in Jehovah.
I will be glad and rejoice in thy lovingkindness;
For thou hast seen my affliction:
Thou hast known {Or, the adversities of my soul}my soul in adversities;
And thou hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy;
Thou hast set my feet in a large place.
Have mercy upon me, O Jehovah, for I am in distress:
Mine eye wasteth away with grief, yea, my soul and my body.
For my life is spent with sorrow,
And my years with sighing:
My strength faileth because of mine iniquity,
And my bones are wasted away.
Because of all mine adversaries I am become a reproach,
Yea, unto my neighbors exceedingly,
And a fear to mine acquaintance:
They that did see me without fled from me.
I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind:
I am like a broken vessel.
For I have heard the defaming of many,
Terror on every side:
While they took counsel together against me
They devised to take away my life.
But I trusted in thee, O Jehovah:
I said, Thou art my God.
My times are in thy hand:
Deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.
Make thy face to shine upon thy servant:
Save me in thy lovingkindness.
Let me not be put to shame, O Jehovah; for I have called upon thee:
Let the wicked be put to shame, let them be silent in Sheol.
Let the lying lips be dumb,
Which speak against the righteous insolently,
With pride and contempt.
Oh how great is thy goodness,
Which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee,
Which thou hast wrought for them that take refuge in thee,
Before the sons of men!
In the covert of thy presence wilt thou hide them from the plottings of man:
Thou wilt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.
Blessed be Jehovah;
For he hath showed me his marvellous lovingkindness in a strong city.
As for me, I said in my {Or, alarm}haste,
I am cut off from before thine eyes:
Nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications,
When I cried unto thee.
Oh love Jehovah, all ye his saints:
Jehovah preserveth {Or, faithfulness}the faithful,
And plentifully rewardeth him that dealeth proudly.
Be strong, and let your heart take courage,
All ye that {Or, wait for}hope in Jehovah.
Querverweise zu Psalm 31,10 Ps 31,10
Therefore their days did he consume in vanity,And their years in terror.
Cast me not off in the time of old age;Forsake me not when my strength faileth.
When I kept silence, my bones wasted awayThrough my {Hebrew: roaring.}groaning all the day long.
I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up:While I suffer thy terrors I am distracted.
For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me:My moisture was changed {Or, into the}as with the drought of summer. [Selah
For my days consume away {Or, in smoke}like smoke,And my bones are burned {Or, as a hearth}as a firebrand.
My heart is smitten like grass, and withered;For I forget to eat my bread.
By reason of the voice of my groaningMy bones cleave to my flesh.
I am like a pelican of the wilderness;I am become as an owl of the waste places.
I watch, and am become like a sparrowThat is alone upon the house-top.
Mine enemies reproach me all the day;They that are mad against me do curse by me.
For I have eaten ashes like bread,And mingled my drink with weeping,
Because of thine indignation and thy wrath:For thou hast taken me up, and cast me away.
My days are like a shadow that {Or, is stretched out}declineth;And I am withered like grass.
But thou, O Jehovah, {Or, sittest as King}wilt abide for ever;And thy memorial name unto all generations.
Thou wilt arise, and have mercy upon Zion;For it is time to have pity upon her,Yea, the set time is come.
For thy servants take pleasure in her stones,And have pity upon her dust.
So the nations shall fear the name of Jehovah,And all the kings of the earth thy glory.
For Jehovah hath built up Zion;He hath appeared in his glory.
He hath regarded the prayer of the destitute,And hath not despised their prayer.
This shall be written for the generation to come;And a people which shall be created shall praise {Hebrew: Jah.}Jehovah.
For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary;From heaven did Jehovah behold the earth;
To hear the sighing of the prisoner;To loose {Hebrew: the children of death.}those that are appointed to death;
That men may declare the name of Jehovah in Zion,And his praise in Jerusalem;
When the peoples are gathered together,And the kingdoms, to serve Jehovah.
He {Another reading is, afflicted me with his strength.}weakened my strength in the way;He shortened my days.
I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days:Thy years are throughout all generations.
Of old didst thou lay the foundation of the earth;And the heavens are the work of thy hands.
They shall perish, but thou shalt endure;Yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment;As a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed:
But thou art the same,And thy years shall have no end.
The children of thy servants shall continue,And their seed shall be established before thee.
For my days consume away {Or, in smoke}like smoke,And my bones are burned {Or, as a hearth}as a firebrand.
My heart is smitten like grass, and withered;For I forget to eat my bread.
By reason of the voice of my groaningMy bones cleave to my flesh.
For my sighing cometh {Or, like my food}before I eat,And my {Hebrew: roarings.}groanings are poured out like water.
that I have great sorrow and unceasing pain in my heart.
