For the Chief Musician; with the {Or, wind instruments}Nehiloth. A Psalm of David.
Give ear to my words, O Jehovah,
Consider my meditation.
Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God;
For unto thee do I pray.
O Jehovah, in the morning shalt thou hear my voice;
In the morning will I order my prayer unto thee, and will keep watch.
For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness:
{Or, The evil man}Evil shall not sojourn with thee.
{Or, Fools}The arrogant shall not stand in thy sight:
Thou hatest all workers of iniquity.
Thou wilt destroy them that speak lies:
Jehovah abhorreth the blood-thirsty and deceitful man.
But as for me, in the abundance of thy lovingkindness will I come into thy house:
In thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.
Lead me, O Jehovah, in thy righteousness because of {Or, them that lie in wait for me}mine enemies;
Make thy way {Or, level}straight before my face.
For there is no {Or, stedfastness}faithfulness in their mouth;
Their inward part is {Or, a yawning gulf}very wickedness;
Their throat is an open sepulchre;
They {Hebrew: make smooth with tongue}flatter with their tongue.
Hold them guilty, O God;
Let them fall {Or, from their counsels}by their own counsels;
Thrust them out in the multitude of their transgressions;
For they have rebelled against thee.
{Or, So shall all those…rejoice. They shall shout…and thou shall defend them: They shall also…shall be joyful in thee}But let all those that take refuge in thee rejoice,
Let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them:
Let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.
For thou wilt bless the righteous;
O Jehovah, thou wilt compass him with favor as with a shield.
Querverweise zu Psalm 5,5 Ps 5,5
For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.They are corrupt, they have done abominable works;There is none that doeth good.
Therefore the wicked shall not stand in the judgment,Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire,And {Or, blesseth the covetous, but contemneth &c.}the covetous renounceth, yea, {Or, revileth}contemneth Jehovah.
A brutish man knoweth not;Neither doth a fool understand this:
If thou, {Hebrew: Jah.}Jehovah, shouldest mark iniquities,O Lord, who could stand?
And ye shall not walk in the customs of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they did all these things, and therefore I abhorred them.
Consider, ye brutish among the people;And ye fools, when will ye be wise?
There are six things which Jehovah hateth;Yea, seven which are an abomination {Hebrew: of his soul.}unto him:
Haughty eyes, a lying tongue,And hands that shed innocent blood;
A heart that deviseth wicked purposes,Feet that are swift in running to mischief,
A false witness that {Hebrew: breatheth out.}uttereth lies,And he that {Hebrew: letteth loose.}soweth discord among brethren.
The fear of Jehovah is the {Or, chief part}beginning of knowledge;But the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.
All their wickedness is in Gilgal; for there I hated them: because of the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of my house; I will love them no more; all their princes are revolters.
How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity?And scoffers delight them in scoffing,And fools hate knowledge?
And I cut off the three shepherds in one month; for my soul was weary of them, and their soul also loathed me.
O ye simple, understand prudence;And, ye fools, be of an understanding heart.
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou vowest.
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, {Or, Depart from me under a curse}Depart from me, ye cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels:
Thou that art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and that canst not look on perverseness, wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy peace when the wicked swalloweth up the man that is more righteous than he;
