Versliste
O Jehovah, thou God to whom vengeance belongeth,Thou God to whom vengeance belongeth, shine forth.
Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth:Render to the proud their desert.
Jehovah, how long shall the wicked,How long shall the wicked triumph?
They prate, they speak arrogantly:All the workers of iniquity boast themselves.
They break in pieces thy people, O Jehovah,And afflict thy heritage.
They slay the widow and the sojourner,And murder the fatherless.
And they say, {Hebrew: Jah.}Jehovah will not see,Neither will the God of Jacob consider.
Consider, ye brutish among the people;And ye fools, when will ye be wise?
He that planted the ear, shall he not hear?He that formed the eye, shall he not see?
He that {Or, instructeth}chastiseth the nations, shall not he correct,Even he that teacheth man knowledge?
Jehovah knoweth the thoughts of man, {Or, For}That they are {Hebrew: a breath.}vanity.
Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O {Hebrew: Jah.}Jehovah,And teachest out of thy law;
That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity,Until the pit be digged for the wicked.
For Jehovah will not cast off his people,Neither will he forsake his inheritance.
For judgment shall return unto righteousness;And all the upright in heart shall follow it.
Who will rise up for me against the evil-doers?Who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?
Unless Jehovah had been my help,My soul had soon dwelt in silence.
When I said, My foot slippeth;Thy lovingkindness, O Jehovah, held me up.
In the multitude of my {Or, doubts}thoughts within meThy comforts delight my soul.
Shall the {Or, seat}throne of wickedness have fellowship with thee,Which frameth mischief by statute?
They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous,And condemn the innocent blood.
But Jehovah hath been my high tower,And my God the rock of my refuge.
And he hath brought upon them their own iniquity,And will cut them off in their own wickedness;Jehovah our God will cut them off.
Yea, and all that would live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
This thou knowest, that all that are in Asia turned away from me; of whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes.
in meekness {Or, instructing}correcting them that oppose themselves; if peradventure God may give them repentance unto the knowledge of the truth,
Alexander the coppersmith {Greek: showed.}did me much evil: the Lord will render to him according to his works:
Wherefore I {Or, loathe my words}abhor myself,And repent in dust and ashes.
And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I poured out my soul before Jehovah.
And she said, Let thy handmaid find favor in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat; and her countenance was no more sad.
{Greek: Let your turn of mind be free.}Be ye free from the love of money; content with such things as ye have: for himself hath said, {Deuteronomy 31:6; Joshua 1:5}I will in no wise fail thee, neither will I in any wise forsake thee.
So that with good courage we say, {Psalm 118:6.}The Lord is my helper; I will not fear:What shall man do unto me?
fear thou not, for I am with thee; {Or, look not around thee}be not dismayed, for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Behold, all they that are incensed against thee shall be put to shame and confounded: they that strive with thee shall be as nothing, and shall perish.
Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contend with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.
For I, Jehovah thy God, will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
and in nothing affrighted by the adversaries: which is for them an evident token of perdition, but of your salvation, and that from God;
