Versliste
Behold, happy is the man whom God {Or, reproveth}correcteth:Therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.
For he maketh sore, and bindeth up;He woundeth, and his hands make whole.
He will deliver thee in six troubles;Yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.
In famine he will redeem thee from death; And in war from the power of the sword.
Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue;Neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.
At destruction and dearth thou shalt laugh;Neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.
For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field; And the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.
And thou shalt know that thy tent is in peace; And thou shalt visit thy {Or, habitation}fold, and {Or, shall not err}shalt miss nothing.
Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great,And thine offspring as the grass of the earth.
Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age,Like as a shock of grain cometh in in its season.
Lo this, we have searched it, so it is;Hear it, and know thou it {Hebrew: for thyself.}for thy good.
Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O {Hebrew: Jah.}Jehovah,And teachest out of thy law;
In the thought of him that is at ease there is contempt for misfortune; It is ready for them whose foot slippeth.
The tents of robbers prosper,And they that provoke God are secure; {Or, That bring their god to their hand}Into whose hand God bringeth abundantly.
In whose hand is the soul of every living thing,And the {Or, spirit}breath of all mankind?
My son, despise not the {Or, instruction}chastening of Jehovah;Neither be weary of his reproof:
For whom Jehovah loveth he reproveth;Even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.
Come, and let us return unto Jehovah; for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.
And ye shall smite every fortified city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all fountains of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.
and he digged it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also hewed out a {Or, wine-vat}winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.
Go through, go through the gates; prepare ye the way of the people; cast up, cast up the highway; gather out the stones; lift up an ensign {Or, over}for the peoples.
And the wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder's den.
They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of Jehovah, as the waters cover the sea.
A Song of Ascents.Blessed is every one that feareth Jehovah,That walketh in his ways.
Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine,In the innermost parts of thy house;Thy children like olive plants,Round about thy table.
Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,
If one assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? But who can withhold himself from speaking?
Behold, thou hast instructed many,And thou hast strengthened the weak hands.
Thy words have upholden him that was falling,And thou hast made firm the {Hebrew: bowing.}feeble knees.
But now it is come unto thee, and thou {Or, art grieved}faintest; It toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
Is not thy fear of God thy confidence,And the integrity of thy ways thy hope?
Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent?Or where were the upright cut off?
According as I have seen, they that plow iniquity,And sow {Or, mischief}trouble, reap the same.
By the breath of God they perish,And by the blast of his anger are they consumed.
The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion,And the teeth of the young lions, are broken.
The old lion perisheth for lack of prey,And the whelps of the lioness are scattered abroad.
Shall mortal man {Or, be just before God}be more just than God?Shall a man {Or, be pure before his Maker}be more pure than his Maker?
But man is born unto trouble,As {Hebrew: the sons of flame (or, of lightning).}the sparks fly upward.
Now a thing was {Hebrew: brought by stealth.}secretly brought to me,And mine ear received a whisper thereof.
In thoughts from the visions of the night,When deep sleep falleth on men,
Fear came upon me, and trembling,Which made all my bones to shake.
Then {Or, a breath passed over}a spirit passed before my face; The hair of my flesh stood up.
It stood still, but I could not discern the appearance thereof;A form was before mine eyes: {Or, I heard a still voice}There was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,
Shall mortal man {Or, be just before God}be more just than God?Shall a man {Or, be pure before his Maker}be more pure than his Maker?
Behold, he putteth no trust in his servants; And his angels he chargeth with folly:
How much more them that dwell in houses of clay,Whose foundation is in the dust,Who are crushed {Or, like}before the moth!
{Or, From morning to evening}Betwixt morning and evening they are {Hebrew: broken in pieces.}destroyed:They perish for ever without any regarding it.
{Or, Is not their excellency which is in them removed?}Is not their tent-cord plucked up within them? They die, and that without wisdom.
But as for me, I would seek unto God,And unto God would I commit my cause;
