Come, and let us return unto Jehovah; for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.
After two days will he revive us: on the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live before him.
And let us know, let us follow on to know Jehovah: his going forth is sure as the morning; and he will come unto us as the rain, as the latter rain that watereth the earth.
O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? for your {Or, kindness}goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the dew that goeth early away.
Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and {Or, according to another reading, my}thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth.
For I desire {Or, kindness}goodness, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt-offerings.
But they {Or, are as men that have transgressed a covenant}like {Or, men}Adam have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against me.
Gilead is a city of them that work iniquity; it is stained with blood.
{Or, And as robbers lying in wait, so &c.}And as troops of robbers wait for a man, so the company of priests murder in the way toward Shechem; yea, they have committed lewdness.
In the house of Israel I have seen a horrible thing: there whoredom is found in Ephraim, Israel is defiled.
Also, O Judah, there is a harvest appointed for thee, when I {Or, return to}bring back the captivity of my people.

And many peoples shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of Jehovah, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth {Or, instruction}the law, and the word of Jehovah from Jerusalem.
See now that I, even I, am he,And there is no god with me:I kill, and I make alive;I wound, and I heal;And there is none that can deliver out of my hand.
let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto Jehovah, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
Jehovah killeth, and maketh alive:He bringeth down to Sheol, and bringeth up.
Return, ye backsliding children, I will heal your backslidings.Behold, we are come unto thee; for thou art Jehovah our God.
For he maketh sore, and bindeth up;He woundeth, and his hands make whole.
In those days, and in that time, saith Jehovah, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together; they shall go on their way weeping, and shall seek Jehovah their God.
When he giveth quietness, who then can condemn?And when he hideth his face, who then can behold him?Alike whether it be done unto a nation, or unto a man:
Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to Jehovah.
Thou, Jehovah, of thy favor hadst made my mountain to stand strong:Thou didst hide thy face; I was troubled.
Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.
And ye shall defile the overlaying of thy graven images of silver, and the plating of thy molten images of gold: thou shalt {Hebrew: scatter.}cast them away as an {Hebrew: menstruous.}unclean thing; thou shalt say unto it, Get thee hence.
Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation that hath no {Or, longing}shame;
For thus saith Jehovah, Thy hurt is incurable, and thy wound grievous.
while men come to fight with the Chaldeans, and to fill them with the dead bodies of men, whom I have slain in mine anger and in my wrath, and for all whose wickedness I have hid my face from this city:
For though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.
For he doth not afflict {Hebrew: from his heart.}willingly, nor grieve the children of men.
