Maschil of David, when he was in the cave; a Prayer.
I cry with my voice unto Jehovah;
With my voice unto Jehovah do I make supplication.
I pour out my complaint before him;
I show before him my trouble.
When my spirit {Or, fainted}was overwhelmed within me,
Thou knewest my path.
In the way wherein I walk
Have they hidden a snare for me.
Look on my right hand, and see;
For there is no man that knoweth me:
Refuge hath failed me;
No man careth for my soul.
I cried unto thee, O Jehovah;
I said, Thou art my refuge,
My portion in the land of the living.
Attend unto my cry;
For I am brought very low:
Deliver me from my persecutors;
For they are stronger than I.
Bring my soul out of prison,
That I may give thanks unto thy name:
The righteous shall {Or, crown themselves because of me}compass me about;
For thou wilt deal bountifully with me.

Thou hast proved my heart; thou hast visited me in the night;Thou hast tried me, and {Or, findest no evil purpose in me; My mouth &c.}findest nothing;I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.
For without cause have they hid for me {Or, the pit of their net}their net in a pit;Without cause have they digged a pit for my soul.
My heart is smitten like grass, and withered;For I forget to eat my bread.
Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising;Thou understandest my thought afar off.
Thou {Or, winnowest}searchest out my path and my lying down,And art acquainted with all my ways.
For there is not a word in my tongue,But, lo, O Jehovah, thou knowest it altogether.
Let destruction come upon him unawares;And let his net that he hath hid catch himself: {Or, Into that very destruction let him fall}With destruction let him fall therein.
