For the Chief Musician; A Psalm of David, a Song.
{Or, God ariseth; and so throughout verse 1, 2, 3.}Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered;
Let them also that hate him flee before him.
As smoke is driven away, so drive them away:
As wax melteth before the fire,
So let the wicked perish at the presence of God.
But let the righteous be glad; let them exult before God:
Yea, let them rejoice with gladness.
Sing unto God, sing praises to his name:
Cast up a highway for him that rideth through the deserts;
His name is {Hebrew: Jah.}Jehovah; and exult ye before him.
A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows,
Is God in his holy habitation.
God {Hebrew: maketh the solitary to dwell in a house.}setteth the solitary in families:
He bringeth out the prisoners into prosperity;
But the rebellious dwell in a parched land.
O God, when thou wentest forth before thy people,
When thou didst march through the wilderness; [Selah
The earth trembled,
The heavens also dropped rain at the presence of God:
Yon Sinai trembled at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
Thou, O God, didst send a plentiful rain,
Thou didst confirm thine inheritance, when it was weary.
Thy {Or, troop}congregation dwelt therein:
Thou, O God, didst prepare of thy goodness for the poor.
The Lord giveth the word:
The women that publish the tidings are a great host.
Kings of armies flee, they flee;
And she that tarrieth at home divideth the spoil.
{Or, Will ye lie among the sheepfolds, as the wings…gold?}When ye lie among the sheepfolds,
It is as the wings of a dove covered with silver,
And her pinions with yellow gold.
When the Almighty scattered kings therein,
It {Or, snowed}was as when it snoweth in Zalmon.
A mountain of God is the mountain of Bashan;
A {Hebrew: mountain of summits.}high mountain is the mountain of Bashan.
Why look ye askance, ye high mountains,
At the mountain which God hath desired for his abode?
Yea, Jehovah will dwell in it for ever.
The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands upon thousands:
The Lord is among them, {Or, Sinai is in the sanctuary}as in Sinai, in the sanctuary.
Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led away captives;
Thou hast received gifts among men,
Yea, among the rebellious also, that {Hebrew: Jah.}Jehovah God might {Or, dwell there}dwell with them.
Blessed be {Or, the Lord day by day: if one oppresseth us. God is our salvation.}the Lord, who daily beareth our burden,
Even the God who is our salvation. [Selah
God is unto us a God of deliverances;
And unto Jehovah the Lord belongeth escape from death.
But God will smite through the head of his enemies,
The hairy scalp of such a one as goeth on still in his guiltiness.
The Lord said, I will bring again from Bashan,
I will bring them again from the depths of the sea;
That thou mayest crush them, dipping thy foot in blood,
That the tongue of thy dogs may have its portion from thine enemies.
They have seen thy goings, O God,
Even the goings of my God, my King, {Or, in the sanctuary Or, in holiness}into the sanctuary.
The singers went before, the minstrels followed after,
In the midst of the damsels playing with timbrels.
Bless ye God in the congregations,
Even the Lord, ye that are of the fountain of Israel.
There is little Benjamin their ruler,
The princes of Judah and their {Or, company}council,
The princes of Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali.
Thy God hath commanded thy strength:
{Or, Be strong, O God, thou that hast &c.}Strengthen, O God, that which thou {Or, hast wrought for us out of thy temple. Unto Jerusalem &c.}hast wrought for us.
Because of thy temple at Jerusalem
Kings shall bring presents unto thee.
Rebuke the wild beast of the reeds,
The multitude of the bulls, with the calves of the peoples,
{Or, Every one submitting himself with pieces of silver}Trampling under foot the pieces of silver:
{Or, as otherwise read, Scatter thou}He hath scattered the peoples that delight in war.
Princes shall come out of Egypt;
{Hebrew: Cush.}Ethiopia shall haste to stretch out her hands unto God.
Sing unto God, ye kingdoms of the earth;
Oh sing praises unto the Lord;
[Selah
To him that rideth upon the heaven of heavens, which are of old;
Lo, he uttereth his voice, a mighty voice.
Ascribe ye strength unto God:
His excellency is over Israel,
And his strength is in the skies.
{Or, Terrible is God}O God, thou art terrible out of thy holy places:
The God of Israel, he giveth strength and power unto his people.
Blessed be God.
Querverweise zu Psalm 68,1 Ps 68,1
Arise, O Jehovah, in thine anger;Lift up thyself against the rage of mine adversaries,And awake for me; thou hast commanded judgment.
When the Almighty scattered kings therein,It {Or, snowed}was as when it snoweth in Zalmon.
Thy hand will find out all thine enemies;Thy right hand will find out those that hate thee.
{Or, So shall}And let the congregation of the peoples compass thee about;And over them return thou on high.
Rebuke the wild beast of the reeds,The multitude of the bulls, with the calves of the peoples, {Or, Every one submitting himself with pieces of silver}Trampling under foot the pieces of silver: {Or, as otherwise read, Scatter thou}He hath scattered the peoples that delight in war.
thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them; for I Jehovah thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation of them that hate me,
Rise up for our help,And redeem us for thy lovingkindness' sake.
Slay them not, lest my people forget: {Or, Make them wander to and fro}Scatter them by thy power, and bring them down,O Lord our shield.
and repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face.
Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep,Like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.
And he smote his adversaries backward:He put them to a perpetual reproach.
Moreover he refused the tent of Joseph,And chose not the tribe of Ephraim,
But chose the tribe of Judah,The mount Zion which he loved.
Thou hast broken {Or, Egypt}Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain;Thou hast scattered thine enemies with the arm of thy strength.
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my word: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
Arise, O Jehovah, into thy resting-place;Thou, and the ark of thy strength.
Behold, I have made thee to be a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth; thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff.
He that loveth me not keepeth not my words: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's who sent me.
Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness;And let thy saints shout for joy.
Thou shalt winnow them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them; and thou shalt rejoice in Jehovah, thou shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel.
And it came to pass, when the ark set forward, that Moses said, Rise up, O Jehovah, and let thine enemies be scattered; and let them that hate thee flee before thee.
A third part shalt thou burn in the fire in the midst of the city, when the days of the siege are fulfilled; and thou shalt take a third part, and smite with the sword round about it; and a third part thou shalt scatter to the wind, and I will draw out a sword after them.
Now therefore arise, O Jehovah God, into thy resting-place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O Jehovah God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in {Or, good}goodness.
And I will scatter toward every wind all that are round about him to help him, and all his bands; and I will draw out the sword after them.
At the noise of the tumult the peoples are fled; at the lifting up of thyself the nations are scattered.
And they shall know that I am Jehovah, when I shall disperse them among the nations, and scatter them through the countries.
Jehovah will go forth as a mighty man; he will stir up his zeal like a man of war: he will cry, yea, he will shout aloud; he will do mightily against his enemies.
Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken in pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing-floors; and the wind carried them away, so that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great {Or, rock}mountain, and filled the whole earth.
I have long time holden my peace; I have been still, and refrained myself: now will I cry out like a travailing woman; I will {Or, destroy and devour}gasp and pant together.
Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of Jehovah; awake, as in the days of old, the generations of ancient times. Is it not thou that didst cut Rahab in pieces, that didst pierce the monster?
Is it not thou that driedst up the sea, the waters of the great deep; that madest the depths of the sea a way for the redeemed to pass over?
