For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph, a Song.
In Judah is God known:
His name is great in Israel.
In Salem also is his { Or, covert}tabernacle,
And his { Or, lnir}dwelling-place in Zion.
There he brake the {Or, fiery shafts Or, lightnings}arrows of the bow;
The shield, and the sword, and the battle. [Selah
Glorious art thou and excellent,
{Or, More than}From the mountains of prey.
The stouthearted are made a spoil,
They have slept their sleep;
And none of the men of might have found their hands.
At thy rebuke, O God of Jacob,
Both chariot and horse are cast into a deep sleep.
Thou, even thou, art to be feared;
And who may stand in thy sight when once thou art angry?
Thou didst cause sentence to be heard from heaven;
The earth feared, and was still,
When God arose to judgment,
To save all the meek of the earth.
[Selah
Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee:
The residue of wrath shalt thou {Or, restrain}gird upon thee.
Vow, and pay unto Jehovah your God:
Let all that are round about him bring presents unto him that ought to be feared.
He will cut off the spirit of princes:
He is terrible to the kings of the earth.
Querverweise zu Psalm 76,7 Ps 76,7
A God very terrible in the council of the holy ones,And to be feared above all them that are round about him?
Who knoweth the power of thine anger,And thy wrath according to the fear that is due unto thee?
Kiss the son, lest he be angry, and ye perish in the way,For his wrath {Or, may}will soon be kindled. {Or, Happy}Blessed are all they that take refuge in him.
Who should not fear thee, O King of the nations? for {Or, it beseemeth thee}to thee doth it appertain; forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their royal estate, there is none like unto thee.
But they are {Or, through one thing}together brutish and foolish: {Or, the stock is a doctrine of vanities}the instruction of idols! it is but a stock.
There is silver beaten into plates, which is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the artificer and of the hands of the goldsmith; blue and purple for their clothing; they are all the work of skilful men.
But Jehovah is {Or, God in truth}the true God; he is the living God, and an everlasting King: at his wrath the earth trembleth, and the nations are not able to abide his indignation.
Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken asunder by him.
And be not afraid of them that kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in {Greek: Gehenna.}hell.
Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?
and he saith with a great voice, Fear God, and give him glory; for the hour of his judgment is come: and {See marginal note on chapter 3:9}worship him that made the heaven and the earth and sea and fountains of waters.
and they say to the mountains and to the rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
Who shall not fear, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy; for all the nations shall come and {See marginal note on chapter 3:9}worship before thee; for thy righteous acts have been made manifest.
for the great day of their wrath is come; and who is able to stand?
