For the Chief Musician; set to Al-tashheth. A Psalm of Asaph, a Song.
We give thanks unto thee, O God;
We give thanks, {Or, for that thy name is near Thy wonderous works declare}for thy name is near:
Men tell of thy wondrous works.
When I shall {Hebrew: take.}find the set time,
I will judge uprightly.
{Or, When the earth…I set up}The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved:
I have {Hebrew: proportioned.}set up the pillars of it.
[Selah
I said unto the {Or, fools}arrogant, Deal not arrogantly;
And to the wicked, Lift not up the horn:
Lift not up your horn on high;
Speak not {Or, insolently with a haughty neck}with a stiff neck.
For neither from the east, nor from the west,
Nor yet {Or, from the wilderness of mountains cometh judgment}from the {Hebrew: wilderness.}south, cometh lifting up.
But God is the judge:
He putteth down one, and lifteth up another.
For in the hand of Jehovah there is a cup, and the wine {Or, is red}foameth;
It is full of mixture, and he poureth out of the same:
Surely the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall drain them, and drink them.
But I will declare for ever,
I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off;
But the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.

For the Chief Musician; set to Al-tashheth. A Psalm of David. Michtam; when he fled from Saul, in the cave.Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me;For my soul taketh refuge in thee:Yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I take refuge,Until these {Or, wickedness}calamities be overpast.
For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph, a Song.In Judah is God known:His name is great in Israel.
For what great nation is there, that hath {Or, God}a god so nigh unto them, as Jehovah our God is whensoever we call upon him?
For the Chief Musician; set to Al-tashheth. A Psalm of David. Michtam. {Or, Is the righteousness ye should speak dumb?}Do ye indeed {Or, as otherwise read, O ye gods Or, O ye mighty ones}in silence speak righteousness?Do ye {Or, judge uprightly the sons of men}judge uprightly, O ye sons of men?
I will worship toward thy holy temple,And give thanks unto thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth:For thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
Did ever a people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live?
Take ye heed before him, and hearken unto his voice; {Or, be not rebellious against him}provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgression: for my name is in him.
Or hath God assayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that Jehovah your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?
And Jehovah passed by before him, and proclaimed, Jehovah, Jehovah, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness and truth;
keeping lovingkindness for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin; and that will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation.
There is none like unto thee, O Jehovah; thou art great, and thy name is great in might.
