For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David the servant of Jehovah.
{Or, Transgression saith to the wicked}The transgression of the wicked {Or, uttereth its oracle}saith within my heart,
There is no fear of God before his eyes.
For {Or, it (or, he) flattereth him in his eyes}he flattereth himself in his own eyes,
{Or, Until his iniquity be found and be hated Hebrew: Concerning the finding out of his iniquity and hating it.}That his iniquity will not be found out and be hated.
The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit:
He hath ceased to be wise and to do good.
He deviseth iniquity upon his bed;
He setteth himself in a way that is not good;
He abhorreth not evil.
Thy lovingkindness, O Jehovah, is in the heavens;
Thy faithfulness reacheth unto the skies.
Thy righteousness is like the mountains of God;
Thy judgments are a great deep:
O Jehovah, thou preservest man and beast.
How precious is thy lovingkindness, O God!
And the children of men take refuge under the shadow of thy wings.
They shall be {Hebrew: watered.}abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house;
And thou wilt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.
For with thee is the fountain of life:
In thy light shall we see light.
Oh continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee,
And thy righteousness to the upright in heart.
Let not the foot of pride come against me,
And let not the hand of the wicked drive me away.
There are the workers of iniquity fallen:
They are thrust down, and shall not be able to rise.
Querverweise zu Psalm 36,11 Ps 36,11
In the pride of the wicked {Or, he doth hotly pursue the poor}the poor {Hebrew: is set on fire.}is hotly pursued; {Or, They are taken}Let them be taken in the devices that they have conceived.
I have set Jehovah always before me:Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
Jehovah will cut off all flattering lips,The tongue that speaketh great things;
Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail;Our lips are {Hebrew: with us.}our own: who is lord over us?
Because of the oppression of the poor, because of the sighing of the needy,Now will I arise, saith Jehovah;I will set him in the safety he panteth for.
Keep me as the apple of the eye;Hide me under the shadow of thy wings,
From the wicked that oppress me,My deadly enemies, that compass me about.
{Or, They have shut up their heart}They are inclosed in their own fat:With their mouth they speak proudly.
They have now compassed us in our steps;They set their eyes to cast us down to the earth.
He is like a lion that is greedy of his prey,And as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.
Arise, O Jehovah, {Or, Forestall}Confront him, cast him down:Deliver my soul from {Or, the wicked, who is thy sword}the wicked by thy sword;
From {Or, men who are thy hand}men by thy hand, O Jehovah,From men {Or, whose portion in life is of the world}of the world, whose portion is in this life,And whose belly thou fillest with thy treasure:They are satisfied with children,And leave the rest of their substance to their babes.
The proud have had me greatly in derision:Yet have I not swerved from thy law.
For the king trusteth in Jehovah;And through the lovingkindness of the Most High he shall not be moved.
The proud have forged a lie against me:With my whole heart will I keep thy precepts.
Thy hand will find out all thine enemies;Thy right hand will find out those that hate thee.
The proud have digged pits for me,Who are not according to thy law.
He only is my rock and my salvation:He is my high tower; I shall not be moved.
Be surety for thy servant for good:Let not the proud oppress me.
A Song of Ascents.They that trust in JehovahAre as mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abideth for ever.
As the mountains are round about Jerusalem,So Jehovah is round about his peopleFrom this time forth and for evermore.
For the sceptre of wickedness shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous;That the righteous put not forth their hands unto iniquity.
Have mercy upon us, O Jehovah, have mercy upon us;For we are exceedingly filled with contempt.
Who shall separate us from the love {Some ancient authorities read of God.}of Christ? shall tribulation, or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
Even as it is written, {Psalms 44:22}For thy sake we are killed all the day long;We were accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
nor height, nor depth, nor any other {Or, creation}creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Our soul is exceedingly filledWith the scoffing of those that are at ease,And with the contempt of the proud.
Pour forth the overflowings of thine anger;And look upon every one that is proud, and abase him.
Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low;And tread down the wicked where they stand.
and I will put it into the hand of them that afflict thee, that have said to thy soul, Bow down, that we may go over; and thou hast laid thy back as the ground, and as the street, to them that go over.
Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven; for all his works are truth, and his ways justice; and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.
