Shiggaion of David, which he sang unto Jehovah, concerning the words of Cush a Benjamite.
O Jehovah my God, in thee do I take refuge:
Save me from all them that pursue me, and deliver me,
Lest they tear my soul like a lion,
Rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.
O Jehovah my God, if I have done this;
If there be iniquity in my hands;
If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me;
(Yea, I have delivered him that without cause was mine adversary);
Let the enemy pursue my soul, and overtake it;
Yea, let him tread my life down to the earth,
And lay my glory in the dust. [Selah
Arise, O Jehovah, in thine anger;
Lift up thyself against the rage of mine adversaries,
And awake for me; thou hast commanded judgment.
{Or, So shall}And let the congregation of the peoples compass thee about;
And over them return thou on high.
Jehovah ministereth judgment to the peoples:
Judge me, O Jehovah, according to my righteousness, and to mine integrity {Or, be it unto me}that is in me.
Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, but establish thou the righteous:
For the righteous God trieth the minds and {Hebrew: reins}hearts.
My shield is with God,
Who saveth the upright in heart.
God is a righteous judge,
Yea, a God that hath indignation every day.
{Or, Surely he will again whet}If a man turn not, he will whet his sword;
He hath bent his bow, and made it ready;
He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death;
He maketh his arrows fiery shafts.
Behold, he travaileth with iniquity;
Yea, he hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.
He hath made a pit, and digged it,
And is fallen into the ditch which he made.
His mischief shall return upon his own head,
And his violence shall come down upon his own pate.
I will give thanks unto Jehovah according to his righteousness,
And will sing praise to the name of Jehovah Most High.
Querverweise zu Psalm 7,13 Ps 7,13
For, lo, the wicked bend the bow,They make ready their arrow upon the string,That they may shoot in darkness at the upright in heart;
if so be that it is a righteous thing with God to recompense affliction to them that afflict you,
Thine arrows are sharp;The peoples fall under thee;They are in the heart of the king's enemies.
and they cried with a great voice, saying, How long, O Master, the holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
Who have whet their tongue like a sword,And have aimed their arrows, even bitter words,
for they poured out the blood of saints and prophets, and blood hast thou given them to drink: they are worthy.
But God will shoot at them;With an arrow suddenly shall they be wounded.
Cast forth lightning, and scatter them;Send out thine arrows, and discomfit them.
I will heap evils upon them;I will spend mine arrows upon them:
I will make mine arrows drunk with blood,And my sword shall devour flesh;With the blood of the slain and the captives, {Or, From the beginning of revenges upon the enemy}From {Or, the hairy head of the enemy}the head of the leaders of the enemy.
For the arrows of the Almighty are within me,The poison whereof my spirit drinketh up:The terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.
He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.
He hath caused the {Hebrew: sons.}shafts of his quiver to enter into my reins.
The sun and moon stood still in their habitation,At the light of thine arrows as they went,At the shining of thy glittering spear.
Thou {Or, art come}wentest forth for the salvation of thy people, {Or, For salvation (or, victory) with thine anointed}For the salvation of thine anointed; {Or, Thou didst smite off the head from the house &c.}Thou {Or, hast wounded}woundedst the head out of the house of the wicked man,Laying bare the foundation even unto the neck.
