Moreover Elihu answered and said,
Thinkest thou this to be thy right,
Or sayest thou, My righteousness is more than God's,
That thou sayest, What advantage will it be unto thee?
And, What profit shall I have, more than if I had sinned?
I will answer thee,
And thy companions with thee.
Look unto the heavens, and see;
And behold the skies, which are higher than thou.
If thou hast sinned, what effectest thou against him?
And if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?
If thou be righteous, what givest thou him?
Or what receiveth he of thy hand?
Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art;
And thy righteousness may profit a son of man.
By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry out;
They cry for help by reason of the arm of the mighty.
But none saith, Where is God my Maker,
Who giveth songs in the night,
Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth,
And maketh us wiser than the birds of the heavens?
There they cry, {Or, but he answereth not}but none giveth answer,
Because of the pride of evil men.
Surely God will not hear an empty cry,
Neither will the Almighty regard it.
How much less when thou sayest {Or, thou beholdest him not! The cause is before him, therefore wait thou for him}thou beholdest him not,
The cause is before him, and thou waitest for him!
But now, because he hath not visited in his anger,
{Or, Thou sayest, He doth not greatly regard arrogance. Thus doth &c.}Neither doth he greatly regard arrogance;
Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vanity;
He multiplieth words without knowledge.
Querverweise zu Hiob 35,2 Hiob 35,2
And I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
{Hebrew: He who.}For he breaketh me with a tempest,And multiplieth my wounds without cause.
For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
Although thou knowest that I am not wicked,And there is none that can deliver out of thy hand?
He saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked {Greek: bondservant.}servant. Thou knewest that I am an austere man, taking up that which I laid not down, and reaping that which I did not sow;
Although there is no violence in my hands,And my prayer is pure.
Know now that God hath {Or, overthrown me}subverted me in my cause,And hath compassed me with his net.
Behold, I {Or, cry out, Violence:}cry out of wrong, but I am not heard:I cry for help, but there is no justice.
As God liveth, who hath taken away my right,And the Almighty, who hath {Hebrew: made my soul bitter.}vexed my soul:
{Or, All the while my breath is in me…nostrils; surely}(For my life is yet whole in me,And the spirit of God is in my nostrils);
Surely my lips {Or, do}shall not speak uprighteousness,Neither {Or, doth}shall my tongue utter deceit.
Far be it from me that I should justify you:Till I die I will not put away mine integrity from me.
My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go:My heart {Or, doth not reproach me for any of my days}shall not reproach me so long as I live.
For Job hath said, I am righteous,And God hath taken away my right:
Wilt thou even annul my judgment?Wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be justified?
