For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.In Jehovah do I take refuge: How say ye to my soul,Flee {Or, ye birds}as a bird to your mountain;
For, lo, the wicked bend the bow,They make ready their arrow upon the string,That they may shoot in darkness at the upright in heart;
{Or, For the foundations are destroyed; What hath the righteous wrought?}If the foundations be destroyed,What can the righteous do?
Jehovah is in his holy temple;Jehovah, his throne is in heaven;His eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.
Jehovah trieth the righteous;But the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.
Upon the wicked he will rain snares;Fire and brimstone and burning wind shall be the portion of their cup.
For Jehovah is righteous; He loveth {Or, righteous deeds}righteousness: {Or, His countenance doth behold the upright}The upright shall behold his face.
For the Chief Musician; set to {Or, the eighth}the Sheminith. A Psalm of David.Help, Jehovah; for the godly man ceaseth;For {Or, faithfulness failed}the faithful fail from among the children of men.
They speak falsehood every one with his neighbor:With flattering lip, and with a double heart, do they speak.
Jehovah will cut off all flattering lips,The tongue that speaketh great things;
Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail;Our lips are {Hebrew: with us.}our own: who is lord over us?
Because of the oppression of the poor, because of the sighing of the needy,Now will I arise, saith Jehovah;I will set him in the safety he panteth for.
The words of Jehovah are pure words;As silver tried in a furnace on the earth,Purified seven times.
Thou wilt keep them, O Jehovah,Thou wilt preserve them from this generation for ever.
The wicked walk on every side,When vileness is exalted among the sons of men.
For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou forget me for ever?How long wilt thou hide thy face from me?
How long shall I take counsel in my soul,Having sorrow in my heart all the day?How long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?
Consider and answer me, O Jehovah my God:Lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;
Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him;Lest mine adversaries rejoice when I am moved.
But I have trusted in thy lovingkindness;My heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.
I will sing unto Jehovah,Because he hath dealt bountifully with me.

And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.
But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a {Or, broom-tree}juniper-tree: and he requested for himself that he might die, and said, It is enough; now, O Jehovah, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
