For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
In Jehovah do I take refuge: How say ye to my soul,
Flee  {Or, ye birds}as a bird to your mountain;
 For, lo, the wicked bend the bow,
They make ready their arrow upon the string,
That they may shoot in darkness at the upright in heart;
  {Or, For the foundations are destroyed; What hath the righteous wrought?}If the foundations be destroyed,
What can the righteous do?
 Jehovah is in his holy temple;
Jehovah, his throne is in heaven;
His eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.
 Jehovah trieth the righteous;
But the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.
 Upon the wicked he will rain snares;
Fire and brimstone and burning wind shall be the portion of their cup.
 For Jehovah is righteous; He loveth {Or, righteous deeds}righteousness:
 {Or, His countenance doth behold the upright}The upright shall behold his face.
Querverweise zu Psalm 11,6 Ps 11,6
He gave them hail for rain,And flaming fire in their land.
Jehovah is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup:Thou maintainest my lot.
For in the hand of Jehovah there is a cup, and the wine {Or, is red}foameth;It is full of mixture, and he poureth out of the same:Surely the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall drain them, and drink them.
Then Jehovah rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Jehovah out of heaven;
And {Or, messes were taken}he took and sent messes unto them from before him: but Benjamin's mess was five times so much as any of theirs. And they drank, and {Hebrew: drank largely.}were merry with him.
Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, that hast drunk at the hand of Jehovah the cup of his wrath; thou hast drunken the bowl of the cup of staggering, and drained it.
And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and Jehovah sent thunder and hail, and fire ran down unto the earth; and Jehovah rained hail upon the land of Egypt.
And when the day came that Elkanah sacrificed, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:
Thus saith thy Lord Jehovah, and thy God that pleadeth the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken out of thy hand the cup of staggering, even the bowl of the cup of my wrath; thou shalt no more drink it again:
So there was hail, and fire {Or, flashing continually amidst}mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.
And Samuel said unto the cook, Bring the portion which I gave thee, of which I said unto thee, Set it by thee.
For thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, unto me: Take this cup of the wine of wrath at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it.
And they shall drink, and reel to and fro, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them.
Then took I the cup at Jehovah's hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom Jehovah had sent me:
{Or, It shall dwell in his tent, that it be no more his (or, because it is none of his)}There shall dwell in his tent that which is none of his:Brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation.
This is the portion of a wicked man with God,And the heritage of oppressors, which they receive from the Almighty:
If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword;And his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.
Those that remain of him shall be buried in death,And his widows shall make no lamentation.
Though he heap up silver as the dust,And prepare raiment as the clay;
He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on,And the innocent shall divide the silver.
He buildeth his house as the moth,And as a booth which the keeper maketh.
He lieth down rich, but he shall not be gathered to his fathers;He openeth his eyes, and he is not.
Terrors overtake him like waters;A tempest stealeth him away in the night.
The east wind carrieth him away, and he departeth;And it sweepeth him out of his place.
For God shall hurl at him, and not spare:He would fain flee out of his hand.
Men shall clap their hands at him,And shall hiss him out of his place.
Thou art filled with shame, and not glory: drink thou also, and {Or, let thy foreskin be uncovered}be as one uncircumcised; the cup of Jehovah's right hand shall come round unto thee, and foul shame shall be upon thy glory.
{Or, Let it be for the filling of his belly that God shall cast &c.}When he is about to fill his belly,God will cast the fierceness of his wrath upon him,And will rain it upon him {Or, as his food}while he is eating.
Jesus therefore said unto Peter, Put up the sword into the sheath: the cup which the Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?
Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.
And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows on high are opened, and the foundations of the earth tremble.
Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I will even rend it with a stormy wind in my wrath; and there shall be an overflowing shower in mine anger, and great hailstones in wrath to consume it.
And with pestilence and with blood will I enter into judgment with him; and I will rain upon him, and upon his hordes, and upon the many peoples that are with him, an overflowing shower, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.
but in the day that Lot went out from Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all:
