And when he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.
And behold, there came to him a leper and {See marginal note on chapter 2:2.}worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
And he stretched forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou made clean. And straightway his leprosy was cleansed.
And Jesus saith unto him, {Leviticus 13:49; 14:2 ff.}See thou tell no man; but go, show thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
And when he was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
and saying, Lord, my {Or, boy}servant lieth in the house sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
And he saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
And the centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not {Greek: sufficient.}worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof; but only say {Greek: with a word.}the word, and my {Or, boy}servant shall be healed.
For I also am a man {Some ancient authorities insert set: as in Luke 7:8.}under authority, having under myself soldiers: and I say to this one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my {Greek: bondservant.}servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
And when Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, {Many ancient authorities read With no man in Israel have I found so great faith.}I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
And I say unto you, that many shall come from the east and the west, and shall {Greek: recline.}sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven:
but the sons of the kingdom shall be cast forth into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And the {Or, boy}servant was healed in that hour.
And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother lying sick of a fever.
And he touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she arose, and ministered unto him.
And when even was come, they brought unto him many {Or, demoniacs}possessed with demons: and he cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all that were sick:
that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying: {Isaiah 53:4}Himself took our infirmities, and bare our diseases.
Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side.
And there came a {Greek: one scribe.}scribe, and said unto him, Teacher, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the heaven have {Greek: lodging-places.}nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
And another of the disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
But Jesus saith unto him, Follow me; and leave the dead to bury their own dead.
And when he was entered into a boat, his disciples followed him.
And behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the boat was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Save, Lord; we perish.
And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
And the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?
And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gadarenes, there met him two {Or, demoniacs}possessed with demons, coming forth out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man could pass by that way.
And behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
Now there was afar off from them a herd of many swine feeding.
And the demons besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, send us away into the herd of swine.
And he said unto them, Go. And they came out, and went into the swine: and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep into the sea, and perished in the waters.
And they that fed them fled, and went away into the city, and told everything, and what was befallen to them that were {Or, demoniacs}possessed with demons.
And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart from their borders.
Querverweise zu Matthäus 8,9 Mt 8,9
Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds,That abundance of waters may cover thee?
{Greek: Bondservants.}Servants, be obedient unto them that according to the flesh are your {Greek: lords.}masters, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;
Canst thou send forth lightnings, that they may go,And say unto thee, Here we are?
not in the way of eyeservice, as men-pleasers; but as {Greek: Bondservants.}servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the {Greek: soul.}heart;
For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind,Which lifteth up the waves thereof.
They mount up to the heavens, they go down again to the depths:Their soul melteth away because of trouble.
They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man,And {Hebrew: all their wisdom is swallowed up.}are at their wits' end.
Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble,And he bringeth them out of their distresses.
He maketh the storm a calm,So that the waves thereof are still.
{Greek: Bondservants.}Servants, obey in all things them that are your {Greek: lords.}masters according to the flesh; not with eye-service, as men-pleasers, but in singleness of heart, fearing the Lord:
{Or, As for thine ordinances, they abide this day}They abide this day according to thine ordinances;For all things are thy servants.
Exhort {Greek: bondservants.}servants to be in subjection to their own masters, and to be well-pleasing to them in all things; not gainsaying;
Fire and hail, snow and vapor;Stormy wind, fulfilling his word;
O thou sword of Jehovah, how long will it be ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard; rest, and be still.
How canst thou be quiet, seeing Jehovah hath given {Hebrew: it.}thee a charge? Against Ashkelon, and against the sea-shore, there hath he appointed it.
Or if I bring a sword upon that land, and say, {Or, Let the sword go}Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off from it man and beast;
though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, they should deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only should be delivered themselves.
Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my wrath upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast;
though Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, they should deliver neither son nor daughter; they should but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.
For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the evil beasts, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast!
And he awoke, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
And he said unto them, Why are ye fearful? have ye not yet faith?
And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the demon had thrown him down in the midst, he came out of him, having done him no hurt.
And amazement came upon all, and they spake together, one with another, saying, What is {Or, this word, that with authority…come out?}this word? for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.
And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she rose up and ministered unto them.
For I also am a man set under authority, having under myself soldiers: and I say to this one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my {Or, boy}servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
