A Psalm; a Song at the Dedication of the House. A Psalm of David.
I will extol thee, O Jehovah; for thou hast {Or, drawn}raised me up,
And hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.
O Jehovah my God,
I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.
O Jehovah, thou hast brought up my soul from Sheol;
Thou hast kept me alive, {Another reading is, from among them that go down to the pit.}that I should not go down to the pit.
Sing praise unto Jehovah, O ye saints of his,
And give thanks to his holy memorial name.
For his anger is but for a moment;
{Or, In his favor is life}His favor is for a life-time:
Weeping {Hebrew: may come in to lodge at even.}may tarry for the night,
But joy cometh in the morning.
As for me, I said in my prosperity,
I shall never be moved.
Thou, Jehovah, of thy favor hadst made my mountain to stand strong:
Thou didst hide thy face; I was troubled.
I cried to thee, O Jehovah;
And unto Jehovah I made supplication:
What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit?
Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?
Hear, O Jehovah, and have mercy upon me:
Jehovah, be thou my helper.
Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing;
Thou hast loosed my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent.
O Jehovah my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.
Querverweise zu Psalm 30,7 Ps 30,7
For his anger is but for a moment; {Or, In his favor is life}His favor is for a life-time:Weeping {Hebrew: may come in to lodge at even.}may tarry for the night,But joy cometh in the morning.
He brought me up also out of {Hebrew: a pit of tumult (or, destruction)}a horrible pit, out of the miry clay;And he set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
Why standest thou afar off, O Jehovah?Why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?
For thou wilt bless the righteous;O Jehovah, thou wilt compass him with favor as with a shield.
And now, O Jehovah, thou art God, and hast promised this good thing unto thy servant:
For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.How long, O Jehovah? wilt thou forget me for ever?How long wilt thou hide thy face from me?
Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation;And thy right hand hath holden me up,And thy {Or, condescension}gentleness hath made me great.
and now it hath pleased thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O Jehovah, hast blessed, and it is blessed for ever.
How long shall I take counsel in my soul,Having sorrow in my heart all the day?How long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?
Thou hast enlarged my steps under me,And my {Hebrew: ankles.}feet have not slipped.
Because of thine indignation and thy wrath:For thou hast taken me up, and cast me away.
For they gat not the land in possession by their own sword,Neither did their own arm save them;But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance,Because thou wast favorable unto them.
Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled;Thou {Or, gatherest in}takest away their breath, they die,And return to their dust.
For thou art the glory of their strength;And in thy favor {Another reading is, thou shall exalt our horn.}our horn shall be exalted.
Make haste to answer me, O Jehovah; my spirit faileth:Hide not thy face from me,Lest I become like them that go down into the pit.
Thou hast granted me life and lovingkindness;And thy {Or, care}visitation hath {Or, I am filled with ignominy, but look thou…for it increaseth: thou &c.}preserved my spirit.
When I looked for good, then evil came;And when I waited for light, there came darkness.
My heart is troubled, and resteth not;Days of affliction are come upon me.
I go {Or, blackened, but not by the sun}mourning without the sun:I stand up in the assembly, and cry for help.
I am a brother to jackals,And a companion to ostriches.
My skin is black, and falleth from me,And my bones are burned with heat.
Therefore is my harp turned to mourning,And my pipe into the voice of them that weep.
Behold, it was for my peace that I had great bitterness:But {Hebrew: thou hast loved my soul from the pit.}thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of {Or, nothingness}corruption;For thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.
