The plans of the heart belong to man;
But the answer of the tongue is from Jehovah.
All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes;
But Jehovah weigheth the spirits.
{Hebrew: Roll.}Commit thy works unto Jehovah,
And thy purposes shall be established.
Jehovah hath made everything for {Or, his own purpose}its own end;
Yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to Jehovah:
Though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
By mercy and truth iniquity is atoned for;
And by the fear of Jehovah men depart from evil.
When a man's ways please Jehovah,
He maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
Better is a little, with righteousness,
Than great revenues with injustice.
A man's heart deviseth his way;
But Jehovah directeth his steps.
{Hebrew: Divination.}A divine sentence is in the lips of the king;
His mouth shall not transgress in judgment.
A just balance and scales are Jehovah's;
All the weights of the bag are his work.
It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness;
For the throne is established by righteousness.
Righteous lips are the delight of kings;
And they love him that speaketh right.
The wrath of a king is as messengers of death;
But a wise man will pacify it.
In the light of the king's countenance is life;
And his favor is as a cloud of the latter rain.
How much better is it to get wisdom than gold!
Yea, to get understanding is rather to be chosen than silver.
The highway of the upright is to depart from evil:
He that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.
Pride goeth before destruction,
And a haughty spirit before a fall.
Better it is to be of a lowly spirit with the {Or, meek}poor,
Than to divide the spoil with the proud.
He that {Or, handleth a matter wisely}giveth heed unto the word shall find good;
And whoso trusteth in Jehovah, happy is he.
The wise in heart shall be called prudent;
And the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
Understanding is a well-spring of life unto him that hath it;
But the correction of fools is their folly.
The heart of the wise instructeth his mouth,
And addeth learning to his lips.
Pleasant words are as a honeycomb,
Sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
There is a way which {Or, is straight before}seemeth right unto a man,
But the end thereof are the ways of death.
The appetite of the laboring man laboreth for him;
For his mouth urgeth him thereto.
A worthless man {Hebrew: diggeth.}deviseth mischief;
And in his lips there is as a scorching fire.
A perverse man scattereth abroad strife;
And a whisperer {Or, alienateth his friend}separateth chief friends.
A man of violence enticeth his neighbor,
And leadeth him in a way that is not good.
{Or, He that shutteth his eyes to devise perverse things, That compresseth his lips, bringeth &c.}He that shutteth his eyes, it is to devise perverse things:
He that compresseth his lips bringeth evil to pass.
The hoary head is a crown of {Or, beauty}glory;
{Or, If it be found}It shall be found in the way of righteousness.
He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty;
And he that ruleth his spirit, than he that taketh a city.
The lot is cast into the lap;
But the whole disposing thereof is of Jehovah.

In whose heart is perverseness,Who deviseth evil continually,Who {Hebrew: letteth loose.}soweth discord.
He that covereth a transgression seeketh love;But he that harpeth on a matter separateth chief friends.
A false witness that {Hebrew: breatheth out.}uttereth lies,And he that {Hebrew: letteth loose.}soweth discord among brethren.
Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which Jehovah God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of {Or, all the trees}any tree of the garden?
And the woman said unto the serpent, Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat:
but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as {Or, gods}God, knowing good and evil.
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was {Or, desireable to look upon}to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat; and she gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat.
And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig-leaves together, and made themselves {Or, girdles}aprons.
And they heard the {Or, sound}voice of Jehovah God walking in the garden in the {Hebrew: wind.}cool of the day: and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Jehovah God amongst the trees of the garden.
And Jehovah God called unto the man, and said unto him, Where art thou?
And he said, I heard thy {Or, sound}voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
And Jehovah God said unto the woman, What is this thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
A wrathful man stirreth up contention;But he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
And David said to Saul, Wherefore hearkenest thou to men's words, saying, Behold, David seeketh thy hurt?
The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels,And they go down into the innermost parts.
being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
For lack of wood the fire goeth out;And where there is no whisperer, contention ceaseth.
As coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire,So is a contentious man to inflame strife.
The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels,And they go down into the innermost parts.
For I fear, lest by any means, when I come, I should find you not such as I would, and should myself be found of you such as ye would not; lest by any means there should be strife, jealousy, wraths, factions, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, {Or, disorders}tumults;
An angry man stirreth up strife,And a wrathful man aboundeth in transgression.
For the {Hebrew: pressing.}churning of milk bringeth forth butter,And the {Hebrew: pressing.}wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood;So the {Hebrew: pressing.}forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.
If any man teacheth a different doctrine, and consenteth not to {Greek: healthful.}sound words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but {Greek: sick.}doting about questionings and disputes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
wranglings of men corrupted in mind and bereft of the truth, supposing that godliness is a way of gain.
But if ye have bitter jealousy and faction in your heart, glory not and lie not against the truth.
This wisdom is not a wisdom that cometh down from above, but is earthly, {Or, natural Or, animal}sensual, {Greek: demoniacal.}devilish.
For where jealousy and faction are, there is confusion and every vile deed.
