For the Chief Musician; set to Al-tashheth. A Psalm of Asaph, a Song.
We give thanks unto thee, O God;
We give thanks, {Or, for that thy name is near Thy wonderous works declare}for thy name is near:
Men tell of thy wondrous works.
When I shall {Hebrew: take.}find the set time,
I will judge uprightly.
{Or, When the earth…I set up}The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved:
I have {Hebrew: proportioned.}set up the pillars of it.
[Selah
I said unto the {Or, fools}arrogant, Deal not arrogantly;
And to the wicked, Lift not up the horn:
Lift not up your horn on high;
Speak not {Or, insolently with a haughty neck}with a stiff neck.
For neither from the east, nor from the west,
Nor yet {Or, from the wilderness of mountains cometh judgment}from the {Hebrew: wilderness.}south, cometh lifting up.
But God is the judge:
He putteth down one, and lifteth up another.
For in the hand of Jehovah there is a cup, and the wine {Or, is red}foameth;
It is full of mixture, and he poureth out of the same:
Surely the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall drain them, and drink them.
But I will declare for ever,
I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off;
But the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.
Querverweise zu Psalm 75,4 Ps 75,4
How long will ye judge unjustly,And respect the persons of the wicked? [Selah
Judge the {Or, weak}poor and fatherless:Do justice to the afflicted and destitute.
Rescue the {Or, weak}poor and needy:Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.
They know not, neither do they understand;They walk to and fro in darkness:All the foundations of the earth are shaken.
I said, Ye are gods,And all of you sons of the Most High.
Nevertheless ye shall die like men,And fall like one of the princes.
Arise, O God, judge the earth;For thou shalt inherit all the nations.
For thou art the glory of their strength;And in thy favor {Another reading is, thou shall exalt our horn.}our horn shall be exalted.
Consider, ye brutish among the people;And ye fools, when will ye be wise?
And he hath lifted up {Or, a horn for his people. A praise for all his saints: Even for &c.}the horn of his people,The praise of all his saints;Even of the children of Israel, a people near unto him. {Hebrew: Hallelujah.}Praise ye Jehovah.
How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity?And scoffers delight them in scoffing,And fools hate knowledge?
and concerning the ten horns that were on its head, and the other horn which came up, and before which three fell, even that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake great things, whose look was more stout than its fellows.
O ye simple, understand prudence;And, ye fools, be of an understanding heart.
I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;
{Or, Forsake the simple}Leave off, ye simple ones, and live;And walk in the way of understanding.
Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head; but these are come to terrify them, to cast down the horns of the nations, which lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.
