For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
The king shall joy in thy strength, O Jehovah;
And in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!
Thou hast given him his heart's desire,
And hast not withholden the request of his lips. [Selah
For thou meetest him with the blessings of {Or, good things}goodness:
Thou settest a crown of fine gold on his head.
He asked life of thee, thou gavest it him,
Even length of days for ever and ever.
His glory is great in thy salvation:
Honor and majesty dost thou lay upon him.
For thou {Hebrew: settest him to be blessings. See Genesis 12:2.}makest him most blessed for ever:
Thou makest him glad with joy in thy presence.
For the king trusteth in Jehovah;
And through the lovingkindness of the Most High he shall not be moved.
Thy hand will find out all thine enemies;
Thy right hand will find out those that hate thee.
Thou wilt make them as a fiery furnace in the time of thine {Or, presence Hebrew: countenance.}anger:
Jehovah will swallow them up in his wrath,
And the fire shall devour them.
Their fruit wilt thou destroy from the earth,
And their seed from among the children of men.
For they intended evil against thee;
They conceived a device which they are not able to perform.
For thou wilt make them turn their back;
Thou wilt make ready with thy bowstrings against their face.
Be thou exalted, O Jehovah, in thy strength:
So will we sing and praise thy power.
Querverweise zu Psalm 21,1 Ps 21,1
Yet I have set my kingUpon my holy hill of Zion.
Jehovah is my strength and my shield;My heart hath trusted in him, and I am helped:Therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth;And with my song will I praise him.
We will triumph in thy {Or, victory}salvation,And in the name of our God we will set up our banners:Jehovah fulfil all thy petitions.
Now know I that Jehovah saveth his anointed;He will answer him from his holy heavenWith the saving strength of his right hand.
With God is my salvation and my glory:The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
O God, thou hast taught me from my youth;And hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works.
Yea, even {Hebrew: unto old age and gray hairs.}when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not,Until I have declared {Hebrew: thine arm.}thy strength unto the next generation,Thy might to every one that is to come.
Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high;Thou who hast done great things,O God, who is like unto thee?
Thou, who hast showed us many and sore troubles,Wilt quicken {Another reading is, me.}us again,And wilt bring {Another reading is, me.}us up again from the depths of the earth.
Increase thou my greatness,And turn again and comfort me.
I will also praise thee with the psaltery,Even thy truth, O my God:Unto thee will I sing praises with the harp,O thou Holy One of Israel.
My lips shall shout for joy when I sing praises unto thee;And my soul, which thou hast redeemed.
My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long;For they are put to shame, for they are confounded, that seek my hurt.
Save, Jehovah:Let the King answer us when we call.
Oh come, let us sing unto Jehovah;Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.
{Hebrew: Jah.}Jehovah is my strength and song;And he is become my salvation.
But the king shall rejoice in God:Every one that sweareth by him shall glory;For the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.
The king's strength also loveth justice;Thou dost establish equity;Thou executest justice and righteousness in Jacob.
The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous:The right hand of Jehovah doeth valiantly.
A Psalm of Solomon.Give the king thy judgments, O God,And thy righteousness unto the king's son.
looking unto Jesus the {Or, captain}author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising shame, and hath sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
{Or, Let him (and so throughout the Psalm)}He will judge thy people with righteousness,And thy poor with justice.
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called {Or, Wonderful counsellor}Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, {Hebrew: Father of Eternity.}Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of Jehovah of hosts will perform this.
{Or, Where is the King of the Jews that is born?}Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we saw his star in the east, and are come to {The Greek word denotes an act of reverence whether paid to a creature (see chapter 4:9; 18:26), or to the Creator (see chapter 4:10)}worship him.
