For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments, set to the {Or, the eighth}Sheminith. A Psalm of David.
O Jehovah, rebuke me not in thine anger,
Neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
Have mercy upon me, O Jehovah; for I am withered away:
O Jehovah, heal me; for my bones are troubled.
My soul also is sore troubled:
And thou, O Jehovah, how long?
Return, O Jehovah, deliver my soul:
Save me for thy lovingkindness' sake.
For in death there is no remembrance of thee:
In Sheol who shall give thee thanks?
I am weary with my groaning;
Every night make I my bed to swim;
I water my couch with my tears.
Mine eye wasteth away because of grief;
It waxeth old because of all mine adversaries.
Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity;
For Jehovah hath heard the voice of my weeping.
Jehovah hath heard my supplication;
Jehovah will receive my prayer.
All mine enemies shall be put to shame and sore troubled:
They shall turn back, they shall be put to shame suddenly.
Querverweise zu Psalm 6,10 Ps 6,10
Hold them guilty, O God;Let them fall {Or, from their counsels}by their own counsels;Thrust them out in the multitude of their transgressions;For they have rebelled against thee.
Then will he speak unto them in his wrath,And {Or, trouble}vex them in his sore displeasure:
Return, I pray you, let there be no injustice;Yea, return again, {Hebrew: my righteousness is in it.}my cause is righteous.
He that being often reproved hardeneth his neckShall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy
Arise, O Jehovah, in thine anger;Lift up thyself against the rage of mine adversaries,And awake for me; thou hast commanded judgment.
Thy hand will find out all thine enemies;Thy right hand will find out those that hate thee.
Then shall ye return and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not. {[Chapter 3:19 in Hebrew]}
When they are saying, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall in no wise escape.
Yea, none that wait for thee shall be put to shame:They shall be put to shame that deal treacherously without cause.
Thou wilt make them as a fiery furnace in the time of thine {Or, presence Hebrew: countenance.}anger:Jehovah will swallow them up in his wrath,And the fire shall devour them.
Let them be put to shame and confounded together that rejoice at my hurt:Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor that magnify themselves against me.
Let them be put to shame and confounded togetherThat seek after my soul to destroy it:Let them be turned backward and brought to dishonorThat delight in my hurt.
Let them be {Or, astonished}desolate {Or, for a reward of}by reason of their shameThat say unto me, Aha, aha.
Let them be put to shame and consumed that are adversaries to my soul;Let them be covered with reproach and dishonor that seek my hurt.
Fill their faces with confusion,That they may seek thy name, O Jehovah.
Let them be put to shame and dismayed for ever;Yea, let them be confounded and perish;
Show me a token for good,That they who hate me may see it, and be put to shame,Because thou, Jehovah, hast helped me, and comforted me.
Let them curse, but bless thou:When they arise, they shall be put to shame,But thy servant shall rejoice.
{Or, Mine adversaries shall be clothed…And they shall cover &c.}Let mine adversaries be clothed with dishonor,And let them cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe.
The wicked shall see it, and be grieved;He shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away:The desire of the wicked shall perish.
His enemies will I clothe with shame;But upon himself shall his crown flourish.
Jehovah, thy hand is lifted up, yet they see not: but they shall see {Or, and be put to shame, in their envy at the people}thy zeal for the people, and be put to shame; yea, {Or, the fire of thine adversaries shall devour them}fire shall devour thine adversaries.
But Jehovah is with me as a mighty one and a terrible: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail; they shall be utterly put to shame, because they have not {Or, prospered}dealt wisely, even with an everlasting dishonor which shall never be forgotten.
