Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.
In times past, even when Saul was king, it was thou that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and Jehovah thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt be shepherd of my people Israel, and thou shalt be {Or, leader}prince over my people Israel.
So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before Jehovah; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of Jehovah by Samuel.
And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem (the same is Jebus); and the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, were there.
And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come in hither. Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion; the same is the city of David.
And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. And Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and was made chief.
And David dwelt in the stronghold; therefore they called it the city of David.
And he built the city round about, from Millo even round about; and Joab {Hebrew: revived.}repaired the rest of the city.
And David waxed greater and greater; for Jehovah of hosts was with him.
Now these are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who {Or, held strongly with him}showed themselves strong with him in his kingdom, together with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of Jehovah concerning Israel.
And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had: Jashobeam, the son of a Hachmonite, the chief of the {Another reading is, captains.}thirty; he lifted up his spear against three hundred {Hebrew: slain.}and slew them at one time.
And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighty men.
He was with David at {In 1 Samuel 17:1, Ephes-dammim.}Pasdammim, and there the Philistines were gathered together to battle, where was a plot of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines.
And they stood in the midst of the plot, and defended it, and slew the Philistines; and Jehovah saved them by a great {Hebrew: salvation.}victory.
And three of the thirty chief men went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the host of the Philistines were encamped in the valley of Rephaim.
And David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Beth-lehem.
And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me water to drink of the well of Beth-lehem, which is by the gate!
And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Beth-lehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto Jehovah,
and said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this: shall I drink the blood of these men {Hebrew: with their lives.}that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men.
And {Hebrew: Abshai.}Abishai, the brother of Joab, he was chief of the three; for he lifted up his spear against three hundred {Hebrew: slain.}and slew them, and had a name among the three.
{Or, Of the three in the second rank he was the most honorable}Of the three, he was more honorable than the two, and was made their captain: howbeit he attained not to the first three.
Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done mighty deeds, he slew the two sons of Ariel of Moab: he went down also and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow.
And he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian's hand was a spear like a weaver's beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear.
These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had a name among the three mighty men.
Behold, he was more honorable than the thirty, but he attained not to the first three: and David set him over his {Or, council}guard.
Also the mighty men of the armies: Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Beth-lehem,
{In 2 Samuel 23:25, Shammah the Harodite.}Shammoth the Harorite, Helez the {In 2 Samuel 23:26, Paltite.}Pelonite,

Ithai the son of Ribai of Gibeah of the children of Benjamin, Benaiah the Pirathonite,
{In 2 Samuel 23:30, Hiddai.}Hurai of the brooks of Gaash, {In 2 Samuel 23:31, Abi-albon.}Abiel the Arbathite,
Azmaveth the Baharumite, Eliahba the Shaalbonite,
the sons of {In 2 Samuel 23:32, Jashen.}Hashem the Gizonite, Jonathan the son of Shagee the Hararite,
Ahiam the son of {In 2 Samuel 23:33, Sharar.}Sacar the Hararite, {In 2 Samuel 23:34, Eliphelet the son of Ahasbai.}Eliphal the son of Ur,
Hepher the Mecherathite, Ahijah the Pelonite,
Hezro the Carmelite, {In 2 Samuel 23:35, Paarai the Arbite.}Naarai the son of Ezbai,
Joel the brother of Nathan, Mibhar the son of Hagri,
Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Berothite, the armorbearer of Joab the son of Zeruiah,
Ira the Ithrite, Gareb the Ithrite,
Uriah the Hittite, Zabad the son of Ahlai,
Adina the son of Shiza the Reubenite, a chief of the Reubenites, and thirty with him,
Hanan the son of Maacah, and Joshaphat the Mithnite,
Uzzia the Ashterathite, Shama and Jeiel the sons of Hotham the Aroerite,
Jediael the son of Shimri, and Joha his brother, the Tizite,
Eliel the Mahavite, and Jeribai, and Joshaviah, the sons of Elnaam, and Ithmah the Moabite,

Querverweise zu 1. Chronika 11,5 1Chr 11,5
If he be able to fight with me, and kill me, then will we be your servants; but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us.
Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the princes of the fathers' houses of the children of Israel, unto king Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of Jehovah out of the city of David, which is Zion.
And David dwelt in the stronghold; therefore they called it the city of David.
And the Philistine said, I {Or, reproach}defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.
Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the princes of the fathers' houses of the children of Israel, unto Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of Jehovah out of the city of David, which is Zion.
And David dwelt in the stronghold, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward.
And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should {Or, reproach}defy the armies of the living God?
Yet I have set my kingUpon my holy hill of Zion.
So David would not remove the ark of Jehovah unto him into the city of David; but David carried it aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.
Thy servant smote both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath {Or, reproached}defied the armies of the living God.
Sing praises to Jehovah, who dwelleth in Zion:Declare among the {Or, peoples}people his doings.
And it was told king David, saying, Jehovah hath blessed the house of Obed-edom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. And David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom into the city of David with joy.
Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth,Is mount Zion, on the sides of the north,The city of the great King.
For there {Or, were}are set thrones for judgment,The thrones of the house of David.
Walk about Zion, and go round about her;Number the towers thereof;
Mark ye well her bulwarks; {Or, Traverse}Consider her palaces:That ye may tell it to the generation following.
But chose the tribe of Judah,The mount Zion which he loved.
Jehovah loveth the gates of ZionMore than all the dwellings of Jacob.
Yea, of Zion it shall be said, This one and that one was born in her;And the Most High himself will establish her.
A Song of Ascents. They that trust in JehovahAre as mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abideth for ever.
As the mountains are round about Jerusalem,So Jehovah is round about his peopleFrom this time forth and for evermore.
For Jehovah hath chosen Zion;He hath desired it for his habitation.
Jehovah hath accomplished his wrath, he hath poured out his fierce anger; And he hath kindled a fire in Zion, which hath devoured the foundations thereof.
The kings of the earth believed not, neither all the inhabitants of the world,That the adversary and the enemy would enter into the gates of Jerusalem.
even as it is written, {Isaiah 28:16}Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence:And he that believeth on {Or, it}him shall not be put to shame.
but ye are come unto mount Zion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, {Or, and to innumerable hosts, the general assembly of angels, and the church &c.}and to {Greek: myriads of angels.}innumerable hosts of angels,
And I saw, and behold, the Lamb standing on the mount Zion, and with him a hundred and forty and four thousand, having his name, and the name of his Father, written on their foreheads.
