Let them be put to shame and turned backward,All they that hate Zion.
Let them be as the grass upon the housetops,Which withereth before it {Or, is plucked up}groweth up;
Wherewith the reaper filleth not his hand,Nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom.
Neither do they that go by say,The blessing of Jehovah be upon you;We bless you in the name of Jehovah.
nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feet; nor {Or, toward}by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded; they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as {In 2 Kings 19:26, grain blasted.}a field of grain before it is grown up.
The voice of one saying, Cry. And one said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field.
But if God doth so clothe the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
And upon a set day Herod arrayed himself in royal apparel, and sat on the {Or, judgement-seat See Matthew 27:19.}throne, and made an oration unto them.
