A Song of Ascents.
{Or, Much}Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth up,
Let Israel now say,
{Or, Much}Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth up:
Yet they have not prevailed against me.
The plowers plowed upon my back;
They made long their furrows.
Jehovah is righteous:
He hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.
Let them be put to shame and turned backward,
All they that hate Zion.
Let them be as the grass upon the housetops,
Which withereth before it {Or, is plucked up}groweth up;
Wherewith the reaper filleth not his hand,
Nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom.
Neither do they that go by say,
The blessing of Jehovah be upon you;
We bless you in the name of Jehovah.
Querverweise zu Psalm 129,6 Ps 129,6
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,And wither as the green herb.
When the wicked spring as the grass,And when all the workers of iniquity do flourish;It is that they shall be destroyed for ever.
Thus saith Jehovah: Cursed is the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from Jehovah.
For he shall be like {Or, a tamarisk}the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, a salt land and not inhabited.
and when the sun was risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
