Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,
Should not the multitude of words be answered?And should a man full of talk be justified?
Should thy boastings make men hold their peace?And when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?
For thou sayest, My doctrine is pure,And I am clean in thine eyes.
But oh that God would speak,And open his lips against thee,
And that he would show thee the secrets of wisdom!For he is manifold in understanding.Know therefore that God {Or, remitteth (Hebrew: causeth to be forgotten) unto thee of thine iniquity}exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.
In the multitude of words there wanteth not transgression;But he that refraineth his lips {Or, is wise}doeth wisely.
Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thy heart be hasty to utter {Or, a word}anything before God; for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.
{Or, Though I be perfect, I will not regard &c.}I am perfect; I regard not myself;I despise my life.
Although thou knowest that I am not wicked,And there is none that can deliver out of thy hand?
And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.
And moreover she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife:
