Versliste
For this cause I also, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which is {Or, in}among you, and {Many ancient authorities omit the love.}the love which ye show toward all the saints,
cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him;
having the eyes of your heart enlightened, that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
and what the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to that working of the strength of his might
which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and made him to sit at his right hand in the heavenly places,
far above all rule, and authority, and power, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this {Greek: age.}world, but also in that which is to come:
and he put all things in subjection under his feet, and gave him to be head over all things to the church,
which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
So because thou art lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spew thee out of my mouth.
Yea, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply virtue; and in your virtue knowledge;
and in your knowledge self-control; and in your self-control {Or, stedfastness}patience; and in your {Or, stedfastness}patience godliness;
and in your godliness {Greek: love of the brethren.}brotherly kindness; and in your {Greek: love of the brethren.}brotherly kindness love.
For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to be not idle nor unfruitful unto the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
For he that lacketh these things is blind, {Or, closing his eyes}seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins.
Wherefore, brethren, give the more diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never stumble:
for thus shall be richly supplied unto you the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
And we desire that each one of you may show the same diligence unto the {Or, full assurance}fulness of hope even to the end:
that ye be not sluggish, but imitators of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
The sluggard will not plow by reason of the winter; {Or, Therefore when he seeketh in harvest, there shall be nothing}Therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.
The sluggard saith, There is a lion in the way;A lion is in the streets.
The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish;It wearieth him to bring it again to his mouth.
The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish,And will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
The sluggard is wiser in {Hebrew: his own eyes.}his own conceitThan seven men that can {Or, answer discreetly}render a reason.
The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing;But the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
The desire of the sluggard killeth him;For his hands refuse to labor.
The slothful man {Or, catcheth not his prey}roasteth not that which he took in hunting;But the precious substance of men {Or, is to be diligent}is to the diligent.
Whatsoever parteth the hoof, and is clovenfooted, and {Hebrew: bringeth up.}cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that may ye eat.
