Versliste
Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief:
{Some connect the words Faithful is the saying with the preceding paragraph.}Faithful is the saying, If a man seeketh the office of a {Or, overseer}bishop, he desireth a good work.
Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation.
Faithful is the saying, and concerning these things I desire that thou affirm confidently, to the end that they who have believed God may be careful to {Or, profess honest occupations}maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men:
Faithful is the {Or, saying: for if &c.}saying: For if we died with him, we shall also live with him:
holding to the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be able both to exhort in the {Greek: healthful.}sound {Or, teaching}doctrine, and to convict the gainsayers.
And he that sitteth on the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he saith, {Or, Write, These words are faithful and true.}Write: for these words are faithful and true.
And he said unto me, These words are faithful and true: and the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent his angel to show unto his {Greek: bondservants.}servants the things which must shortly come to pass.
Faithful is the {Or, saying: for if &c.}saying: For if we died with him, we shall also live with him:
Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and he it is that speaketh with thee.
She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I have believed that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, even he that cometh into the world.
I came out from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go unto the Father.
Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, {Or, Thou sayest it, because I am a king.}Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end have I been born, and to this end am I come into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
I am not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.
And if any man hear my sayings, and keep them not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation.
For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, was this grace given, to {Greek: bring good tidings of the &c. Compare chapter 2:17.}preach unto the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
But from those who {Or, are}were reputed to be somewhat ( {Or, what they once were}whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth not man's person)—they, I say, who were of repute imparted nothing to me:
but contrariwise, when they saw that I had been intrusted with the {See marginal note on chapter 1:6.}gospel of the uncircumcision, even as Peter with the {See marginal note on chapter 1:6.}gospel of the circumcision
(for he that wrought for Peter unto the apostleship of the circumcision wrought for me also unto the Gentiles);
and when they perceived the grace that was given unto me, {Or, Jacob}James and Cephas and John, they who {Or, are}were reputed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship, that we should go unto the Gentiles, and they unto the circumcision;
only they would that we should remember the poor; which very thing I was also zealous to do.
For I reckon that I am not a whit behind {Or, those preeminent apostles}the very chiefest apostles.
I am become foolish: ye compelled me; for I ought to have been commended of you: for in nothing was I behind {Or, those preeminent apostles}the very chiefest apostles, though I am nothing.
Wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me out of {Or, this body of death}the body of this death?
For ye have heard of my manner of life in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and made havoc of it:
and I persecuted this Way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.
And punishing them oftentimes in all the synagogues, I strove to make them blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto foreign cities.
