Putting away therefore all {Or, malice 1 Corinthians 14:20.}wickedness, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
as newborn babes, long for the {Greek: belonging to the reason. Compare Romans 12:1.}spiritual milk which is without guile, that ye may grow thereby unto salvation;
if ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious:
unto whom coming, a living stone, rejected indeed of men, but with God elect, {Or, honorable}precious,
ye also, as living stones, are built up a {Or, a spiritual house for a holy priesthood}spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
 Because it is contained in {Or, a scripture}scripture,
 {Isaiah 28:16}Behold, I lay in Zion a chief corner stone, elect,  {Or, honorable}precious:
And he that believeth on {Or, it}him shall not be put to shame.
  {Or, In your sight}For you therefore that believe is the {Or, honor}preciousness: but for such as disbelieve, {Psalm 118:22.}The stone which the builders rejected,
The same was made the head of the corner;
 and,
 {Isaiah 8:14.}A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence;
 {Greek: who.}for they {Or, stumble, being disobedient to the word}stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
But ye are an elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that ye may show forth the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
 who in time past were no people, but now are the people of God: who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
Beloved, I beseech you as sojourners and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
 having your behavior seemly among the Gentiles; that, wherein they speak against you as evil-doers, they may by your good works, which they behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
Be subject to every {Greek: creation.}ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether to the king, as supreme;
or unto governors, as sent {Greek: through.}by him for vengeance on evil-doers and for praise to them that do well.
For so is the will of God, that by well-doing ye should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
as free, and not {Greek: having.}using your freedom for a cloak of {Or, malice 1 Corinthians 14:20.}wickedness, but as bondservants of God.
 Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.
{Greek: Household-servants.}Servants, be in subjection to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.
For this is {Greek: grace.}acceptable, if for conscience {Greek: of.}toward God a man endureth griefs, suffering wrongfully.
For what glory is it, if, when ye sin, and are buffeted for it, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye shall take it patiently, this is {Greek: grace.}acceptable with God.
For hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye should follow his steps:
who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, threatened not; but committed {Or, his cause}himself to him that judgeth righteously:
who his own self {Or, carried up…to the tree Compare Colossians 2:14; 1 Macc. 4.53 (Greek:).}bare our sins in his body upon the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might live unto righteousness; by whose {Greek: bruise.}stripes ye were healed.
 For ye were going astray like sheep; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and {Or, Overseer}Bishop of your souls.
Querverweise zu 1. Petrus 2,7 1Pet 2,7
whom not having seen ye love; on whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice greatly with joy unspeakable and {Greek: glorified.}full of glory:
In that day will Jehovah of hosts become a crown of glory, and a diadem of beauty, unto the residue of his people;
and, {Isaiah 8:14.}A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence; {Greek: who.}for they {Or, stumble, being disobedient to the word}stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
The stone which the builders rejectedIs become the head of the corner.
Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain; and he shall bring forth the top stone with shoutings of Grace, grace, unto it.
What is thy beloved more than another beloved,O thou fairest among women?What is thy beloved more than another beloved,That thou dost so adjure us?
My beloved is white and ruddy, {Hebrew: Marked out by a banner.}The chiefest among ten thousand.
His head is as the most fine gold;His locks are {Or, curling}bushy, and black as a raven.
His eyes are like doves beside the water-brooks,Washed with milk, and {Or, sitting by full streams}fitly set.
His cheeks are as a bed of {Or, balsam}spices,As {Or, towers of perfumes}banks of sweet herbs:His lips are as lilies, dropping liquid myrrh.
His hands are as {Or, cylinders}rings of gold set with {Or, topaz}beryl:His body is as {Or, bright ivory}ivory work {Or, encrusted}overlaid with sapphires.
His legs are as pillars of marble, set upon sockets of fine gold:His aspect is like Lebanon, excellent as the cedars.
His {Or, speech Hebrew: palate.}mouth is most sweet;Yea, he is altogether lovely.This is my beloved, and this is my friend,O daughters of Jerusalem.
A light for {Or, the unveiling of the Gentiles}revelation to the Gentiles,And the glory of thy people Israel.
Wherefore, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:
This is {Hebrew: from Jehovah.}Jehovah's doing;It is marvellous in our eyes.
and in him ye are made full, who is the head of all principality and power:
and I will shake all nations; and {Or, the things desired (Hebrew: desire) of all nations shall come}the precious things of all nations shall come; and I will fill this house with glory, saith Jehovah of hosts.
But as to Israel he saith, {Isaiah 65:2}All the day long did I spread out my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.
Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, {Psalm 118:22 f.}The stone which the builders rejected,The same was made the head of the corner;This was from the Lord,And it is marvelous in our eyes?
The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in the field; which a man found, and hid; and {Or, for joy thereof}in his joy he goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a merchant seeking goodly pearls:
and having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
that I may be delivered from them that are disobedient in Judæa, and that my ministration which I have for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints;
Have ye not read even this scripture: {Psalm 118:22 f.}The stone which the builders rejected,The same was made the head of the corner;
and they said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy speaking: for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world.
For we also once were foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another.
This was from the Lord,And it is marvellous in our eyes?
Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou {Or, hast words}hast the words of eternal life.
Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, that no man fall {Or, into Greek: in.}after the same example of disobedience.
But he looked upon them, and said, What then is this that is written, {Psalms 118:22.}The stone which the builders rejected,The same was made the head of the corner?
And we have believed and know that thou art the Holy One of God.
By faith Rahab the harlot perished not with them that were disobedient, having received the spies with peace.
He is the {Psalm 118:22.}stone which was set at nought of you the builders, which was made the head of the corner.
Howbeit what things were {Greek: gains.}gain to me, these have I counted loss for Christ.
Yea verily, and I count all things to be loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but refuse, that I may gain Christ,
and be found in him, {Or, not having as my righteousness that which is of the law}not having a righteousness of mine own, even that which is of the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God {Greek: upon.}by faith:
that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, becoming conformed unto his death;
And in none other is there salvation: for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, wherein we must be saved.
